  • Its cool how people in there thirties havent heard her yet and just love it, gotta here it in a club full all these fellow new fans, da shiat.

  • I can't get enough of that!

  • where can i get this lyric?

  • great song!

  • If I really did him in, why he want this nasty gal back again????? "Artists" like Lil Kim never learned about Miss Davis.

  • They weren't ready for her!

  • I just found out about Bettys music and I havent been this floored about someones music in YEARS!!! she is so bad ass!! and her music is so refreshing and its from 1975!!!!....excellent music!!!

  • inspiring

  • anyone have "you and i " betty davis?

  • So sexy! C'est nca la femme noire!

  • If anyone has any influence at South Carolina State University, please see if they have this woman in their film archives (if such a thing exists). She performed there around 1974 or 1973. If was so off the hook, they didn't know what to make of her! I'll pay for a copy of the tape!

  • great idea!

  • The sexiest song ever written!!!

    Ever better then Porthshead

  • Propably the only funk music making lady I have ever heard! This is my kind of stuff ;)

  • you have got to be joking ; ) although i'll admit she is one of the better ones and as a genre it is overdominated by men. also: chaka (obvilously), candice statton, gwen guthrie, mary jane girls, lolleta hardaway, etc. dig for it

    peace, al

  • Just some bluesy rock and funk! Betty is a trailblazer in her time.

  • yes a Fantas(t)y girl...

she has definitly a place in a Tarantino movie... or even guy Ritchie...i m not the ultimate fan of both directors...but they makes pass us good moments... even little padrone mr Scorsese can fall in love with her... and she don't need to be there physically... to make some waves...

  • it's edgy urban funk... nearly rock in his corner....that's good news that they release her 3rd album and i won't way long to discover her...mmmh

  • nearly, who wants to hear rock

  • Nasty funk! 0o)

  • Are they gonna re-issue this album? Because they really should. its amazing.

  • In-in-in-in-incredibly funkay.

  • In Betty's defense, certain rumors aren't true:

-She isn't singing about Miles being beaten with a chain; he wasn't into masochism.

-The lyric was inspired by her kinky friend, Jimi Hendrix, whom she did not have an affair with.

-She also never used drugs, or co-opted anyone for her career.

Betty is a cool, strong person we should respect for her music.

  • amen

  • mmhhh she is a subtle saint... and a turbulant actress...

  • Does any one know where to get this song's lyrics?

  • The ultimate funk lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE.... OR CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT..... IN OBTAINING THE ABORTED 1979 STUDIO SESSIONS?????

According to Wikipedia the 1979 recording session was eventually used for two bootleg albums, Hangin' Out In Hollywood (1995) and Crashin' From Passion (1996)

PLEASE, IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME< I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT! LONG LIVE BETTY!!!

  • should i say organic....or orgasmic ?.....hmmm...too bad this wild child disappeared from the music scene...she was pure, raw, take-no-prisoners and authentic...not necessarily in that order holmes !

  • jesus i cannot handle the awesomeness.

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a totally awesome quote.

  • One of the best Funk songs ever!!! :D

  • My favorite singer,KEVAN TYNES,use to sing in a band with Fred Mills and Carlton Morales called Funkhouse, which was BETTY DAVIS' band.

  • This song is pure funk and pure sex.

  • this is a Killer funk-Y mother F****r GREAT song! jesus, not much like this around...

  • Grreaat! I love this girl :p

So happy everytime I listen to her!!

  • Thanks funknroll, another great clip, another great female artist.xx

  • As I got up close to lick it, it kissed me and gushed. YUM!

  • Whoa! What the fuck was that thing at 1:45?!

  • tilt your head to the right and you will see that it is a Mouth licking the side of its lip.

But looking at it forward it resembles a deformed clit almost huh

  • Now this is funk!

  • simply amazing.

  • she is STILL OUT THERE and living in PITTSBURGH but she is NOT making music---she is "retired", some friends of mine called her up & offered to "help" her make new music, she showed no interest.

  • I'm out of control in love with her. The world would be a better place if women weren't afraid to turn themselves inside out like Betty. My idol.

  • Down and dirty funk from a lady who was one of the most sexy performers of the genre...great stuff!

  • as the story goes, she and miles davis were married. then supposedly she did some music with hendrix and her and miles divorced shortly after...

she was crucial in miles' music after she introduced him to funk...

  • Whoa, I'm a healthy big hetero muscle man who lifts his weights every day, but when I hear this woman sing, I become a little scared boy (with a hardon, though).

The sheer power and lust... Whoa.

  • Classic song from a classic album.

This stuff is so raw and organic.

  • Betty Davis live on baby! See this what i like in my sexy funk joints, just implied an inferred sexual images. This way it leaves a little something for the imagination.

  • I love this song! Thanks to whom ever introduced me to Betty Davis

  • She's so cool. Thanks for posting. I put it in my favs.

  • I'm in love with her!

  • LOL! This is crazy... Born in 1989.

I missed on on tha GOOD TImez.... :(

  • @KINSHASAA19sankru89 - when you're born is no guarantee ... I was born on 63 and I only heard of her last year ! So you beat me to it !!!

  • Check out these Betty Davis videos: -BETTY DAVIS- "F.U.N.K." (1975) -BETTY DAVIS- "F.U.N.K." (2.0) (1975) -BETTY DAVIS- "NASTY GAL" (1975) -BETTY DAVIS-"SHUT OFF THE LIGHT" (1975) -BETTY DAVIS- "HE WAS A BIG FREAK" (1974) Also, -LITTLE SISTER- "STANGA" (1970) -RUTH COPELAND/ FUNKADELIC-'SUBURBAN FAMILY LAMENT' -YVONNE FAIR-"FUNKY MUSIC SHO' NUFF TURNS ME ON" (1975) -ISIS -"DO THE FOOTBALL" (1974) -TINA TURNER -"WHOLE LOTTA LOVE" (1975) -MATERIAL & NONA HENDRYX -"BUSTING OUT" (1980)
  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • She has got to be one of the fiercest entertainers ever!!! She is sexy without it being overdone...This is because she is comfortable in her own skin. There is no fabrication about what she is about!!!

  • this is pretty good

  • Betty Davis was soo dope! btw Prince (and Slick Rick James) was Naked Funk...my era

  • A great Lady, and one of the true pioneers of the industry. She has a MySpace page, and she does respond to her fans.

  • this music makes me want to part my a** off!

  • "Obviously Prince heard it, which inspired him to turn it into "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 in 1982. Learn more about this great lady and tell your friends"

i don't agree with that, because prince's nasty gal was just vulgar, betty inferred, or implied, but never said.

  • I was just referring to the name, the subject matter, and his similar focus on erotic Funk. She set a template that he expanded on.

  • well maybe, and maybe not - betty wasn't really heard outside of New York and the big metro area's, Prince is from the whitest part of the country, and I don't find prince funky

i find him stiff and contrived. Betty was funk, non-stop - and believe it or not, it was the black folk that killed her career.

the black press had a field day.

  • prince is just a different shade of funk...

  • In response to ihatetrash2007, what you say is about right. I grew up in NYC and while in high school, not one person knew who she was. I met only one person later on who knew of her and had seen her in concert. That brother was a god in my eyes for having seen her. In my opinion, 3 of the greatest FUNK albums.

  • Here in Cleveland, OH it was the same, not many people knew about her. I used to try and jam her stuff at parties and no one would dance to her music. She was my sex symbol back in 1973, too hot!!!

  • you go girl

  • there is no one doing music this good today! not even Madonna. I can't believe I lived 35 years w/out hearing this music. Since, I have combed the internet looking for her albums. When I find them they're always not in stock:(

  • well i don't know how i feel about that because apparently she got the worst deal i have ever heard of, she gets no royalties what-so-ever. so you got the right software, burn it and send the money str8 to her.

  • Betty gives us Hot Steamy and sweaty Funk, but during the 70's and even till now it's not widely appreciated (especially in the prudish States). I think it has to do with the way she presents herself as a strong, independant woman who screams, shouts and seduces in a way most of the male-controlled musicscene couldn't or still can't handle.

  • I heard that!

  • @cheijne Why do people always try to down the States as prudish or backwards when music like this only comes from the United States.

  • Innovative, Yes, Talented, limited. Inspirational, off the charts and that's her legacy. She was a groupee that opened up the nose of one of the great musical giants of the 20th century.

  • i got this album when it first cameout, in fact i got all of them always been my fac artists cuz she can't sing fir shit...but i like her ideas

  • Can't sing for shit! Hilarious!

  • in music ther are singers i.e Whitney and then there are interperters i.e Macy Gray

Betty cannot sing she'd be the first to tell you that, but she can interpert her butt off or could now she's a bitter old women living,in Pittsburg.

sorry Bette , but you are...you need to get over it and come out and do some interviews cuz, I know you're here .

  • i meant to say stylist's there is a differnce Bille Holiday - stylist, Nina Simone - stylist, Gladys Knight - singer, Dionne Warwick - singer

  • always been one of my favorite artists, her over Macy Gray anyday

  • Very intense music. That woman sounds like a ballbuster.

  • I want this on my mp3

  • I'm getting the feeling that Betty might have influenced Rick James just a WEE bit! LOL

  • Is she related to Bette Davis?

  • No, she was married to Miles Davis. She's responsible for his embracing of Funk and Psychedelia to create Fusion with "Bitches Brew".

  • man its true! she introduce miles to psychedelic rock and funk and everything, everybody knows that...retarded? 1st learn and then write comments

  • THIS ISTHE REAL FUNK!!!!

  • yeahh :)

  • great music , she's fine as hell too..If you she her, tell her I love her...

  • She is the Queen of Funk! There is no singer, black or white, that can take her on....

I am nothing but a Nasty Bitch!!!!!

  • For more than 30 years, it's been frustrating trying to school folks on Betty Davis - even in record stores, all I'd get in response is "Who, the actress?" Only thing as frustrating is the Mandre - "no, you mean Mandrill" wall of confusion. Thanks for showing I'm not alone!

  • yesss she is funk I love her great you dropped her music here

  • never heard before but, must get some Betty Davis music now! funk rock indeed, i love this.

  • man, she killed that shit!

  • where can I find this? It rocks!!

  • The most underrated Mistress of Funk !

  • shes original post hendrix funk diva. some todays hot artists (like alicia keys) copy her in a way. which is a good thang. because she represent true america.

which is soul, blues, funk rock & roll, r&b etc

  • i was just hipped to her about two years ago and i can totally see this. i see her especially in kelis.

  • I have never even heard of her before. I like her voice, but she is kind of a dominatrix dressing rocker? lol

  • Mr. M was here. : )

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY!

  • It's amazing that this lady has escaped the oldies resurgence. I get pissed that people old enough to have remembered her are clueless. And the stores - what the hell would I be in the store asking for music by Betty Davis the actress? The clerks are mostly children anyway. I finally just started seeing her stuff on shelves in CD form.

  • You can hear Larry Graham 's bass just pumping out of the speakers this here is raw funk -n- roll none of that slick r&b 90's - present day crap.

  • what are you talking about. the 90s was good too. the 00s was when it started getting bad.

  • This shit's Funky!

  • Thanks for the info, made my day. I remember seeing her back in the 70's. Blew me away. She had one of the tighest bands out there. I wish someone would do a movie/documetary about her....

  • Anybody know where Betty is and what she's doing?????

  • Go to myspace and type in 'bettymabrydavis'; It'll bring up a tribute page, and read the Blogs section. It has recent articles about her with some interviews!

  • thanx alot for info

  • klasse

  • I'd love to see a stripper dance to this....

  • One reason her music sounded so good was the quality of her band. On the first album she assembled friends of hers and husband Miles Davis. The band sounded so good they formed their own group named Graham Central Station, with Larry Graham from Sly Stone on bass. The Pointer sisters also sang backup on the album, if you can find it listen to it. Its a treat.

  • Are you a black person who loves listening to rock or metal music? If you are, please send me a message in my mail box. I will like to talk to you. Please send me a message and leave your e-mail address. Also feel free to watch my videos.

    LAR

  • Found your question interesting are you implying black people are not hip to this style of music. Black people are the original presenters of rock, roll, funk, gospel like Chuck Berry said "roll ov'r Beethoven. I believe white people started naming and labeling things to claim it. I hear it all in Betty's music.

  • Dear DarkVoyuer, I love alternative rock music. It speaks to me in volumes like soul music.

  • Love Records in Peoria, Illinois fired me for playing this album over and over. It outsold Led Zeppelin and this was to a core white audience, but the owners were bigots. They closed all 11 stores eventually. There is a God.

  • Be sure to check out the NEW video, "HE WAS A BIG FREAK", too! It seems to be escaping YouTube's radar and isn't appearing with the other Betty videos. Hit "More from this user" to your right and scroll down...

  • Thanks FnR for the update. I got it from your YT message. Perfect montage. Gotta pass this forward. Viva BD

  • Betty-you led the way. Please come back soon!

  • She'z talkin bout Miles,DAMN !!!lol

  • A Hey Hai...The original nasty queen of funk. Thanks again Funk&Roll

  • who is this, my god this is so cool. Betty , you' re great, do you need a guitarplayer ?

  • ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVS!!!!

  • I was a freshmen at North Carolina A&T in 1975. I had a chance to meet her backup band "Funkhouse" who where based out of Greensboro NC. She and Ann Peebles are the Godmothers of Funk. Amen !!!

  • lucky guy, you are

  • You guys like Betty? Have you ever heard of her younger, closest contemporary Joi, The Queen of The Underground?

  • joi's music is so stereotypical though.

  • Yeah, you really haven't listened to much of her stuff , then.

  • yeah, actually i have :)

  • stereotype-One that is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type.

So, what image or type is Joi's music conforming to?

  • PREACH ON UTUBEISSAD!!

  • Watching and listening to Betty Davis just makes it all the more obvious how much bullshit Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Eve, Nikka Costa, and I hate to say it....even MADONNA and all these so called other "hard" bitches represent. Betty Davis would eat them ALL alive. Eat them ALL alive - blood and guts...everything!

  • that's it boy

  • wow!I have been a Betty Davis fan since her first record. There were a lot of funky sisters back in the day, but Betty was truly the epitome of funk personified. Her first album is a who's, who of musicians. They include Larry Graham&Graham Central Station, The Pointer Sisters, Sylvester, Sly's ex drummer, Tower of Power horns, Santana's keyboards and guitar player among others. Betty was raw. A true liberated woman. No faking the funk here.

  • Miss B!!!

Show yourself!!! All these wannabee's have NOTHIN' on you! Where are you, baby!!!

    Betty Rocks!

  • Wow...I've never heard of this lady...I'll have to get her greatest hits!

  • I completely forgot about this crazy chic. I was her biggest 7 year old fan. Where are the live clips? Betty where are you now?

  • Sweet!Now I envy Miles even more! :D

  • Man, you've got taste! I saw her in concert and all the women walked out! She was way ahead of her time!

  • My lady was mad at me for a week.

  • Because our hearts would skip too many beats?

  • seriously, why is there no live footage of miss betty in all her glory?
