Just imagine how surprised I got when I read the English version and saw that the bears were actually called "Panserbjørne!" ☺ Pretty much also explained why, at first, Lyra didn't know they were bears...
But... come on... how hard can it be to pronounce "panserbjørn"? ;-)
yeh film does get complicated unless you read the book and if they make another film (witch i dunno if they will or wont)it would get very very complicated
the movie was pretty good but there was 3 things that were bad. #1. Lyra couldnt act and always looked like she was trying not to laugh during the whole movie. #2. it doesn't make since to people who have never read the book. the movie doesn't explain that much. and #3 they should of followed the book instead of changing and re-arranging everything. like how iorek is king B4 lyra saves the kids. it should be the other way around like in the book- it makes more since.
The author Phillip Pullman was considering calling the trilogy "The Golden Compasses" as in a pair of compasses, the drawing instrument NOT the navigational instrument. However, the American publishers mistakenly thought "compasses" referred to the Alethiometers, and eventually insisted that the first book be called "The Golden Compass", rather than the "Northern Lights", as it is called in Britain. So there.
did you make that up? cause i read on the old official site that it was because the original name was "The Golden Compass Says..." and that what he sent to american publishers, and while he was waiting he changed the name for the british release. then months later, the americans contacted him telling him they would publish the book, and, when Pullman explained the name changed, said that the cover artwork was already slated to publicly appear the next month, and was too late to change the title.
"only in europe every where else its the golden compass "
Seeing as the author is british and hence european, that kind of makes Northern Lights the real name, huh? It was changed to The Golden Compass to make it more obviously understandable and palatable for americans.

@Cadiuro No its Scandanavian: that means Danish/Swedish/Norwegian. That is three different languages which uses almost the same words and Svalbard in His Dark Materials lies north of Norway where they speaks Norwegian. Its kinda a part of it and near Earth's largest island: Greenland, which is covered by much ice in the winter.
They dont kill god in this part. I think it is a 3 part trilogy and it happens in the 3rd part. But I heard that they dont actually kill him but help him get free from his bodily form (release his soul) or something like that. Not sure though.
Yea your right about that, it is in the book and they film is amazing. All the graphics made feel real to me and the lorek Banderson is amazing i would love to have a bear like that.
same i looooooooved the movie, it was so cool and when it was over I was like damn!!!! my friend said that she just wanted to wait there untill the next movie came out lol!!!! I LOVE THE GOLDEN COMPASS!!!!
I heard that they do the fight scene exactly like the novel, which means jaws being ripped off and hearts being eaten. Apparently the fight scene is the reason it is PG-13.
Ok well in the book when Iorek (in the brown armor) is fighting Iofur (In the silver armor). Iorek manages to leap at Iofur and get a clean swipe at him managing to swipe off his whole entire lower jaw. I mean, the whole thing, leaving his tounge just dangling there. And then manages to kill him and eat his heart.
''so dirty, so smelly and so rough. She falls in love with him''
