  • "When you talk to an officer you say sir."

  • That isn't Captain, Ronald Speirs. That's an actor.

  • @TheDevilsBusiness No shit Sherlock... The point is this is remembrance for a fantastic soldier who has earnt the respect of everybody who has commented on this page.

  • @CmileyNewton You mean the respect of a bunch of people who never met him and know nothing about him except a made up story Spielberg made up? That is really of not a lot of use.

  • @TheDevilsBusiness Actually it is factual, Band of Brothers is based on the memoirs of easy company. Ronald Spears actually did this which is what's impressive. Anyway even if you dont respect the guy himself maybe try for some respect for the thousands of men who served their country? Coming from a military family the fact that he fought in the war at all deserves 'the respect of a bunch of people who never met him' regardless of any individual accomplishments...

  • @CmileyNewton Having served in Vietnam, and being the son of a West Point officer I am respectful of other soldiers. Actually it is not a fact, because Spielberg greatly changed the story from the book it was based on. And I never said I didn't respect Ronald C. Speirs (you could AT LEAST spell his name correctly). It isa bunch of movie watchers creating myths that I have no respect for. And there were hundreds of thousands of men like Spiers. He wasn't fantastic, he did as we all did.

  • @TheDevilsBusiness So why the hell are you on this page? If you are so against the cinematic representation of soldiers like Speirs (note spelling) then why comment on a video dedicated to a cinematic representation of Speirs?!? Band of Brothers of course contains elements of artistic licence but it is highly regarded as a realistic documentation of these men's achievements. I never said Speirs was one of a kind, but that doesnt make him any less fantastic, it makes the rest just as amazing...

  • @CmileyNewton I am not disparaging Speirs. I am disparaging people who watch movies and invent myths in their minds and then applaud their own myths. That is how people are indoctrinated to believe that which they do not know.

  • @TheDevilsBusiness Bullshit.Any soldier who fought in war would not watch any war film.Maybe for the acception for those who serve in iraq.I shud know my grandpa fought in korea and he lost his right leg.

  • @hotcreamables And you know he never watched a war movie?

  • @TheDevilsBusiness Every time a documentary of WW2 or some tom cruise show comes on he would leave the room.

  • Speirs was no Scumbag. FAR from it. He was an AIRBORNE OFFICER and in order to be that you have got to lead from the front and do what has to be done in order to accomplish the mission! it was RUMORED he shot that sergeant and like units in the past stories are passed along as how tough a commander is. SPIERS was TOUGH. What he told Blythe was the truth..I knew several officers like Spiers and believe me..HE did it right. You cannot be a good guy in that position, You got to be mean as hell.

  • He shot a sargent for twice "disobeying orders under fire" on D-Day +2. He admitted this to Winters. Winters was of the opinion that the sargent was putting his own men in danger by disobeying Speirs orders. He also told Winters that he shot 6 prisoners on D-Day. This may have been an order (see 'Parachute Infantry" by David Kenyon Webster. Speirs interpreted orders as he felt they should have been interepreted and certainly seemed to never ask anyone to do what he wouldn't do himself.

  • RIP the truest american solider and hero ever every man or woman who reads this who has been through the hell of war we as a nation black white yellow or red gay or right socialist or conservative Salute you

  • @fmjausmerican are you kidding me? This guy beat unarmed men to death for fun, he shot a civilian in the back for not listing to him, he SHOT HIS OWN MEN for appearing drunk on patrol. This guy was a scumbag, read a book

  • @DaytonaRoadster NO I'm not kidding you ya hippie piece of crap. o my gosh he shot people like a drunk man on patrol and he shot unarmed intel. officers because he thought there was no use for them The unarmed man he beat in Austria nearly killed a Lt. and a couple germans but he also ran across a city full of Germans while coming back. admit it he was a hero and know it your just a big piece of wanna be scumbag

  • @fmjausmerican let me educate you moron...he shot HIS OWN MEN, He shoot a US Army Private for 'looking' drunk on partol, he committed war crimes by beating men who had surreneded to death who were not threat to anyone, the guy was a fucking psycho...just your kind of person i suppose then huh? Ignorant fuck

  • @DaytonaRoadster A lot of of soldiers, from all nations, killed POW's. If you're a light assault team you don't have time to deal with surrendered soldiers. I'm also pretty sure there's more to the story of the Private other than "appearing drunk". Maybe he beat the POW's to death to conserve ammo? Why do you even care anyway? Dude's been dead for decades, how about not pissing on his grave?

  • @AceofSpad3sking1994 Actually, Speirs has only been dead for about 4 years and he executed the POW's with his Thompson I think, he didn't beat them.

  • @fmjausmerican Speirs was kind of a psycho. Given the general situations I wouldn't really hold most of his actions against him but he is far from a hero. Maybe you should get your history from a source other than a Hollywood production.

  • @shananagans5 i dont say that he wasnt kinda CRAZY OK but gash damit he was a hero and i dont base my facts on the movie i based it on the book and movie + his biography OK

  • @fmjausmerican Speirs has a biography?

  • @berserker276 yeah

  • @fmjausmerican Didn't know that lol.

  • @berserker276 yeah its really hard to find :)

  • shame about the shit music

  • Songs at the start? ;o

  • War is hell!!

  • Who cares if he did killed those pows, they were nazis.

  • @DeviousBetrayer Because he did it when it wasnt nessesary, just for the fun of it. And when a frenchmen told him it wasnt nessesary, speirs told him to piss off, even when that frenchmen turned around and was walking away he got shot 3 times in the back and could not have kids. He was a horrible human being. True heros wouldnt have shot people for disagreeing with him or kill POWs with the butt of his gun when they have surrended, they were not hindering allied movement or pose any threat.

  • @1ohtaf1 They were soldiers and if they were unarmed then that was their fault, so fuck'em. I do agree that shooting the civilian was totally unnecessary, but hey, shit happens. You try going through 11 months of hell and see if you don't come out with a few screws loose. He's definitely not a hero, but he got the job done.

  • @AceofSpad3sking1994 I would be understanding if that was an accident, but it wasnt, the civilian wasnt even trying to argue, he left after being told to, still got shot anyway. He also shot one of his own men for appearing to be drunk on a patrol....

  • I was an Regular Army officer a long time ago, and know the system. Speirs is a type of officer I knew well; those great leaders of men and fighters who alone can fight and win during war. But, two Armies exist; the other is a Peace Army, and during peace it wants brown nosers and not fighters like Speirs running things. Speirs managed to retire only as a LTC... he only got a couple more promotions. He couldn't hack peacetime politics and never got chicken rank, much less his first star.

  • @markclark5

You're right. I don't get it. First you say they are giving out medals too easily then you agree what I say?

Oh wait a sec, did you mean, when you said they give out medals too easily, that many times nowadays they give to people who don't deserve it?

If that's what you mean, I apologize and withdraw my disrespectful remark about you.

    Sorry.

  • for one, I dont disrespect soldiers. You must be nuttier than a fruitcake to think that. The soldiers who have risked their lives as you've described, are the ones deserving of medals. Dont bother responding because I can tell you just dont get it.

  • @Galslcht

Speirs didn't have a choice. The POW's had to be killed. One D-Day the Americans were not in a position to keep prisoners or provide for them. They had to be killed. Casualties/ misfortunes of war.

He gave them a cigarette (Germans loved American cigarettes) so they would die happy.

  • @hadsao

    Thank you!!!!

Finally some truth about the matter.

  • @bonnerje

You fought in Nam?!?! Thanks for serving!

What did you do over there?

What branch of the service were you in?

  • @MegaArmyman1

    Your grandfather is Ronald Spears?!?

    No way!

Tell him I'm glad he was on our side.

  • title of first music?

  • Rumors... just rumors that Speirs cultivated.

He was a Real life BadAss. He had a deadly air of invincibility, so his men made up stories of him killing a bunch of POWs in cold blood; or the one when he killed one of his own men for disobeying an order... that one kept everyone in line I bet!

  • he's my favorite

  • The reason why he shot those POWs was because at that point of time they were ordered to kill any prisoners, stragglers and/or anything else that was a Kraut that was left over on sight. Due to the fact that the US didn't have the time to deal with any POWs properly.

  • It's all there in the program. And some that's in the book. THE RUMERS He shot 20 POWs. He shot an American sergeant. THE TRUTH He passed the POWs, saw Malarkey talking to one of them. This POW can be translator. Ask about their units, strengths, locations. Malarkey went to join Easy. He heard the gunfire, not see it. A sergeant watching over them, shot the UNARMED POWs Who wants to be guest of honor at a war crimes trial??? Speirs shot the sergeant!!! Cleared by Command of any fault!!
  • @Abryxis Speirs could have very well shot the POWs, and command would have still cleared him. During a all out war like WW2, atrocities get ignored for the fact that if a capable officer is a war criminal, they don't care as long as he's a capable officer. Good capable officers are hard to come by, so they dont get tried for that shit. Only fuck ups get tried for war crimes by their own side.

  • hes fucking bad ass. "hey anybody want a smoke?"

  • Sorry to ask because. . this music is so lame but for some reason i like it, what are we listening to here?

  • @ChrisKunKills it's bc it's lt. Spiers<3 the most baddass leader in the whole series

  • Sorry to ask because. . this music is so lame but for some reason i like it, what are we listening to here?

  • i know Ronald spears he is my great grandpa his rank now is Lt colonel he is retired

  • @MegaArmyman1 Then you'd know that his name was Speirs, not "Spears", and he died in 2007.

  • i know ronald spiers he is my great granpa

  • @MegaArmyman1 tell him i said thanks

  • How could you play this emo bullshit for Speirs? This belongs with Captain Sobel.

  • just to make it clear it was an order to execute all german pows because just after D Day there was no time to set up POW camps

  • Speirs was soooooo hot and brave! I love him!!!!!!!!!!

    He's my idol

  • what is with this fuckin music? its nearly the worst i've heard

  • Justin beiber music? Common...

  • Ronald Speirs. The only man Chuck Norris is afraid of.

  • @actonbath They're probably related in some way...

  • shit music

  • I can't get over that one scene in Foy when he just runs straight through the German lines. You could just see the Germans when he ran by just saying to themselves WTF who the hell is this guy, why can't our bullets hit him. lol

  • Every soldier want to have officer like him!

  • An officer that kills 20 german prisonner after giving them a cigarett ? No thanks, I wouldn't feel sure if this guy won't decide to kill me for some dark reasons.

Seriously, he's awesome but I gotta disapprove what he did to those prisonners.

  • @oOCrossroadsOo if he did it....

  • @futurebestseller84 : He never said he didn't... but as he said there was a value in keeping the mystery, we can have doubts :P However, Malarkey saw it, so...

  • FIRST!!!

  • Why ruin it with music?!

  • speirs was a bad ass

  • GAY MUSIC

  • that guy had balls

  • Yes he did 2007. But he murdered German prisoners during World War 2. Well, sad to say there is no perfect war. I think almost all world war veterans (Germans, Americans, Canadians, Japanese, British, Italians, Australians, and etc) are dead because the war happened more than 70 years ago.

  • @hakawaija Well a friend of Anne Frank ( Miep ) passed away a few months ago.. But that doesn't count as veteran

  • @hakawaija my grnadpa is still alive and he was in the war since D-DAY

  • is ronals spiers stil alive?

  • He died in 2007

  • Good Video I like the music too. :D :D

  • great pics, poor music to go with Speirs. I mean c'mon, Good Charlotte doesn't go with such a badass

  • so true

  • speirs is bad ass

  • Apart from the shit music, good compilation!

  • the most goodlooking soldier here

  • lolll at 1:48 smoke?

  • Who is that band wery good music

  • spiers is super cool, but this tune is one for the ball sucker parade

  • ohhh.....2.42 is a sexy thompson

  • Unfortunately they give out metals and commendations all too easily in the US military. It undermines the significance of the incredible feets of bravery , sacrifice and leadership by those truely deserving individuals.

  • @markclark5

Yeah about your comment that they give out medals too easily to soldiers in the service, ALL soldiers are heros!!

think of the guts it takes to go out there on the field with bullets flying all around you, your buddies dropping dead everywhere, and you still go on to do you job.

You know, it's you pricks that disrespect our soldiers that make me so mad!!! I'd like to see you perform so well in the field. I bet you wouldn't even make it through training camp!!

  • what's the song?

  • The real speirs in WW2 was this badass too :D

  • Had a captain in Viet Nam like him. We would have followed him anywhere. Sua Sponte, Co,G 75th Inf. (Ranger), 23rd (Americal) Div.

  • got a picture of a movie of him?

  • Thanks BONNERJE for what you guys did over there. Some people just don't realize what you guys went through.

  • thanks for serving america :)

  • @bonnerje Hmm, Ranger's. A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A Ranger's! Never leave a man behind, isn't that your guy's motto? I want to be a sniper. =D

  • @bonnerje you really bin in Nam? Wow! i've very much respect for you, im dutch 14 year old. My english will not be very good, ;)

  • @bonnerje How old were you in Nam

  • @MaksTheMarine 20 years old. Celebrated my 21st birthday in Da Nang, when we came in from the field on a stand-down. It was a long time ago. I'm currently 60 years old.

  • @bonnerje You fought in vietnam?

  • @bonnerje Thank you for your service, Sir.

  • brilliant song to go with video

  • man at least play some metal or something...Speirs was pretty much the biggest badass in the whole series

  • wooooooo! :) speirs was so badass!

  • i know and he's so hott to but now he's in gossip girl:(

  • @BubbaMetal That would sucks 'cause metal sucks.

  • @Andreaspaw "That would sucks"

  • @BubbaMetal Oh yeah my mistake.

  • ever heard of the german soldier Fritz Christen? he took out 10 of 15 soviet tanks at an russian ofensive. on the next day they got attacked, his whole team killed and he got dangerously woundet and the aimingsystem of his pak 38 destroyed. he opened the pak 38 and aimed right through the pipe and took out 6 more soviet tanks. he died in the 90´s highly decorated of course

  • too bad the soviets missed

  • B-A-S-T-A-R-D

  • now why would you go and use language like that with me? I looked at your profile and we seem to have a lot in common.

Although Stalin was no Angel, I would take a Soviet over a Nazi any time.

  • fuck!!! play the fucking movie with out music, man i fucking hate it when this happens

  • i agree. and especially if its faggot music.

  • Bravery is based on how one conducts themselves under all pressures. Just like me trying to type this under this crap music. I have been shot at, not like Spears but bullets are bullets. You either thank God at the end or think you are.

  • Ronald Speirs only a hero could be born in scotland hardist man in ww2

  • yeah checked it out the other day turns out hes from edinburgh

  • Comment removed

  • later that soviet soldiers were raping ..... fuck them!

  • being from poland I can certainly understand your resentment for both the Soviets and the Nazis, however without the Soviet war effort the Nazis would have lasted much longer. The soviets bore the brunt of the allied casualties

  • The Germans suffered 85% of their casualties on the eastern front.

  • i agree. americans glorified their efforts too much. We did basically hurt japan a lot but we didn't defeat germany by ourselves.

  • Isn't it Liutenant Speirs :P?

  • no, he got promoted!

  • @Chez9300 in korean war too!

  • @Chez9300 its actually Leiutenant Colonel

  • Thank you for this. The true face of bravery is the American GI. The United States people won the war. The simple Soviet soldier Stalin did his bit too. We owe so much to these heroes.

  • satanic666. This is real. It is a documented account of how 200 brave heroes to the fight to the German Army. Every single man of this unit is known by millions of people as a famed American hero. Tom Hanks is a hero too.

  • im talking about the fact that you know these battles only from your fuckin tv. face the truth that war knows no heroes.get over it. and dont bother me with your pathetic bullshit.

  • sat. There were plenty of heroes.Every hero who won the Congressional Medal of Honor like Douglas MacArthur was a hero. Major Winters won the Distinguished Service Cross, a medal of outstanding barvery. Sure I learn the facts from TV. There you see the great historians like Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg who present factual accounts like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. Bastogne was the main battle in WW2 and the position was defended by Easy Company. They went through hell and won.

  • hate to break it to you, Saving Private Ryan wasn't real. They made that up.

  • you know its a true story, they just exaggerated on the characters, because there was a soldier who had 3 brothers killed. so its fake like your point but something like the movie really happened though

  • the facts are to incredible detail, beleive me, i had to investigate this company's movements for a level coursework. The series does not exaggerate to the supreme extent that you are implying

  • I thought it was based on a true story. Didn't Speilberg himself say so during the making of the film?

  • Comment removed

  • You missunderstood me, I was talking about Saving Private Ryan. I made a response to 1stUSRangerGirl's comment she posted 5 months ago.

  • Youtube's comment system got retarded when it got updated, rather than showing the direct reply to somebody elses comment it starts a new chain.

  • Completely factitious. The only true thing about this is that the screenwriter saw a monument for four brothers that died in the civil war in Pennsylvania. That gave him the inspiration.

  • it is a true story

  • @ swanningaround

Actually the story of Saving Private Ryan was false and not factual. The entire story was based around a member of Easy Company from Band of Brothers. The actual man was Frederick "Fritz" Niland, not James Francis Ryan, and there wasn't a squad of Rangers who spent a long journey trying to find him. It was actual a chaplain who was sent to find him.

  • There are heros. But a hero is an idividual thing. I see soldiers as heros. Just becouse they win a medal swanningaround, doesn't mean that they are heros.

  • Heroes are existing n all sides of war. Americans, Germans, Italians, Russians, Romainians aso. Its not a matter of nationality. Its a personal thing.

    Horridoh!

    3./JgBtl 521 (Germany)

  • lol great vid!u shud make a vid fer guarnere =]

  • What's the first song's name and who sings it? It was really good! Please tell me!

  • It's "March On" by Good Charlotte

  • the gunning down of the pows was a rumor that spread through the company form someone who claims to have seen it, but he was real and died in '07. he was a badass too, according to dick winters he shot one of his men for disobeying a direct order in combat, so he went to his superior officer and admitted to it, but that officer was KIA the next day and it ended there

  • The character of Speirs was great, although I would doubt if he really existed. After all, how could the machine-gunning to death of German POWs be excused? Speirs would have been arrested, court-marshalled and jailed for life, I'm sure.

His character in the beginning was a bit shady and should have stayed that way.

  • the nazi's murdered POWs routinely, how many of those German soldiers have been jailed for life?

  • well... you know that in most western countries its against the law to trial somebody for a crime that wasn't illegal when he committed it? Yes... a few soldiers did horrible stuff. But they were ordered to do it. It was kill or be killed.

  • they didn't with American or British troops, may have on the eastern front but hell, the russians sent hundreds of thousands of Germans to freeze in siberia

  • And stalin commited way more murders than Hitler did...but me being biritsh i would have probably preferred to have Hitler, since he actually secretely wanted an alliance with the British, but this plan was destroyed when Britain said they would declare war if Germany invaded Poland

  • have you heard of the holocaust?!! what your suggesting displays your in credible ignorance and or your lack of moral integrity and sensitivity. in either case you dont appear to be someone worth holding an intelligent discussion with

  • speirs is great, and omg! GC!<3

  • All attempted tributes FAIL. You hadda be there.

  • aparently

    lauren

  • i'm sorry i forgot was speirs the one killing the POW's at part 2?

  • Spiers is a real man . He is a good captain after all. Is his portrayal in BoB authentic?

  • always my favorite. very hott too.. hehe =]

  • great vid , poor song ...

  • why the hell would any1 add music to these movie clips..its just fucking retarded

  • maybe because i knew that you don't like it

    ^_^

  • What the name of this song?? ferst song

  • Its called: "March On" by Good Charlotte

  • Thenks

  • That was cool when he smacked that drunk bastard with his pistol. He's badass...

  • he was a bad ass at the start then he was everyones favorite at the end when he was leading in foy

  • Thats right.

He was a very good man.

    A very good leader.

  • he's my favourite...thanx for uploading

  • Thnx ^_^
