Yeah, this band was definitely trying to sound like ABC. And that's not a bad thing at all. ABC was probably one of the best bands of the 80s. But back to Blue Mercedes, I'm surprised I've never heard this song on the radio. Well here in America at least. This song should've been a much bigger hit. Good stuff.
@CartoonsAndGameShows Not sure in what part of the country you live, but this got quite a bit of airplay in the Los Angeles area. It made it to No. 1 on the US Dance Charts in Jan 1988.
@torresongs2 Yeah I can see this song doing well in Los Angeles. I'm from Chicago, so I can imagine this song getting a lot of airplay on B96 over here. The thing is that I'm only 20, I just happen to love this type of music, lol. I'm just a little surprised this wasn't a bigger hit, You know?, I wish they would at least play it on the "Retro 80s" type station, It seem like they always play that same U2 song or that same Bryan Adams song, lol.
Brilliant. So in-your-face commercial, I-don't-give-a-fuck kind of pop music, kind of like The KLF. Posers? Derivative? (Of what, may I ask?) Packaged (Hell, ALL CDs come packaged, dude. Otherwise they'd get lost in shipping.)
Anyway... I think Blue Mercedes, in the pop arena, were right on time. Too bad they didn't garner more exposure. The world's loss.
I had the 45 single (that's a vinyl record to you children out there; ask your parents) but misplaced it with my Bay City Rollers 8-track tape. This tune was a staple at parties & school dances back in the day. "Thanks For The Gnarly Upload Dude!"
Wow, do I miss Blue Mercedes. Maybe it's because they were derivative of my favorite band from that period, Pet Shop Boys, but I was so into the entire Rich & Famous album. I wish I could find a digital copy of it, I just have the cassette that I had purchased in 1988. I especially miss the ballad "Crunchy Love Affair."
this was one of the very first songs I recorded, placing my tape recorder in front of the radio, trying to avoid any noise, and hoping that the song would not be interrupted by a chatty commentator. Nostalgic moments. Thanks for this video.
My early recordings were done in the same primitive way, tekirim. glad i'm not the only one. I loved this band and had the pleasure of meeting them on several occasions. There was something about Davids lovely blue eyes.
The lady has never had a bad looking day in her life. Cyd Charisse looks astonishingly beautiful at 67 years of age in this video and can do loads of the dance moves she has always been renown for. As a fan of both 80s music and MGM musicalsm this is a dream. I never saw this video, but what a delight. Many thanks for uploading!
I've done other YT sound tests, as well as with my own WMP.
The left speaker *is* inactive in this presentation.
Anyway, GREAT song.

sorry dude, these guys are total ABC mimes. Not PSB. Don't get me wrong, PSB are great and have influenced tons, but not this group.

I never heard this song, so bravo for some lovely Brit 80's pop.
and then, Cyd Charisse! My favorite female dancer of all time. A classy lady.
Texas may have fostered/foisted George W Bush on us all, but it also gave us Cyd, so there is some justice after all.
