good point about the words "liberal" and "conservative." They have many different meanings. I could be called both or none depending on the definition one uses. Libertarians especially spend way too much time on semantics: Trying to define what a "true libertarian" means. Democrats use an extremely negative definition to discredit anyone using the word "libertarian" to describe their viewpoints.

The bottom line is I agree with Ron Paul's views.

I recently donated money to both the Ron Paul and Mike Gravel campaigns. Both support getting the US out of other regions of the world, including the middle east (Iraq). Both support a fair tax. Both support the restoration of civil liberties. Both oppose the doctrine of pre-emptive war. Both have at least one big, crazy idea.

Gravel wants more direct democracy at the federal level. Paul wants to return to the gold standard. I do not currently support either of these ideas, but on balance, I think the candidates should be supported as each has a unique and important message to deliver. Dr Paul sat in front of an audience at Google in which the vast majority raised their hands indicating they benefited from federal student loans and held firm that he is opposed to the program. To him, it was an unjust program and one which he denied his own children to benefit from. Dr Paul is a rarity in Washington.
