Being a Genesis nut; this short snippet of video with Ant and John Mayhew is quite rare and awesome.I just widh they had the original taped audio recordings to go with it instead of overdubs. I just wish there was more of this early early Genesis released by the band if in fact it can be taken from the vault.any Genesis is better than none. I wonder why Tony Stratton Smith could not locate more of these gems.Bless all you Genesis fans.
@littlecave P.S. I asked some people, and they said that probably because Genesis weren't a popular band yet is why there's almost no footage/bootlegs of them from that period :(
please please, we need this film in our lives now, while I appreciate how much it's worth, for god's sake let the bands and the people look upon and listen to this treasure. True art should not be locked away in a vault.. Thanks!
brilliant - only footage of this era Hawkwind known to exist as far as I know - get it out there - MORE ...is there MORE please let us know ? - thanks for sharing this taste my friend ...thats a Spaced Terry Ollis on drums - excellent drummer and Langton on lead guitar with Brock on Rythm Guitar and Vocals
Unprecedented post, I mean REALLY great/generally unknown for Genesis fanatics! To save our honored host from so many repetitive questions, please GO TO GOOGLE.COM and enter "atomic sunrise festival". Among many other things this will reveal, the date of Genesis is 11 March 1970. Gabriel, Banks, Rutherford, Phillips, and Mayhew. RARE. Applause for atomicsunrisefest.
Okay, so you want peeps to buy it so you paste ur email all over it. SILLY, you don't own this have some respect!I will get this soon and POST w/o the crap
@richardcoppola From what I have always understood, it is owned privately. The guy who filmed it tried to sell it a few years back for a wacky high price to Genesis and their management.
Great video, are there any plans to release it? in the mean time, for more information on David Bowie and The Hype please visit here: myspace dot com/harrythebutcher
The second track from the Hawkwind part sounds like its from a scratched vinyl record - thier first album even? Rumer have exsited about a film of Hawkwind in the early 70's but without any audio for about 10 years - Is this it?
What are your intentions with these films ? Do they have their original audio ?
@Yogiphildas Because we don't know where is the multitrack recording from this show. (The knife is from the album version but Looking for someone is from a BBC live session)
@Yogiphildas It doesn't sound like 'Looking for Someone' is the Album Version.. look at his lips, that looks / sounds live! The Knife is for sure overdubbed though..
@dojonane They are both overdubbed- "The Knife" is indeed the 'Trespass' take, and "Looking For Someone" is from the BBC Nightride session in 1970, which was also the source from which Genesis pulled "Let Us Now Make Love", "Pacidy" & "The Shepherd" included on the archive boxed sets.
It would be great if a boxset DVD featuring all 4 bands and anything else in the archives was released with original sound, should that exist. However the legal problems in uniting 4 bands on different labels, not forgetting that members featured in the film clips may not be even in these bands any more, assuming the bands themselves still exist, will be huge. So many legal issues that it might end up staying on the shelf gathering more dust. That would be a great shame.
Was the Bowie portion of this film already released publicly? If you compare this new video (from 0:25 onward) to the video entitled "David Bowie - Footage of the Hype" (from 0:06 onward) you'll see that the overhead camera is clearly the same, but the closeups are totally different.
This is a holy grail for every Genesis fan. For ages it has been wished, rumored, denied, hoped. All the known portion was a 20 sec audio segment of Twilight Alehouse. It's said there's a separate audio of the entire show. I really hope it will be eventually found and match with the footage. For years it was said that the only film was 8mm and Black and White. Greatest discovering since Jackson Tapes. I really hope the Genesis lads will release it soon. The only footage with Ant Phillips!
The Hawkwind footage is what interests me here. Was that a brief glimpse of Huw Lloyd Langton playing the red ES-335 in that second shot during Hurry On Sundown?
And the audio of "Looking for Someone" is from the BBC "Nightride" program, recorded 22 February 1970. That was less than a month before the Atomic Sunrise Festival (11 March 1970). But if the person who posted this video has the actual audio from the ASF, wouldn't they have used that instead?
Please arrange yourself with Hit & Run and the other companies to bring it out on DVD soon. John Mayhew's already dead. Don't consider the money, take the glory of presenting it to the world. Thank you for that snippet anyway.
An amazing copy of a long-lost Genesis classic! The film was supposedly in black and white: has this version been colorized? You can just barely see their original guitarist Anthony Phillips (the back of his head at 1:10 and his hands at 1:53), but there's a clear shot of drummer John Mayhew's at 1:29. More, please!
Aw guys, pleeeeease get this film out, it's such a brilliant piece of music history - any news?
