Tibet was feudal in 1948, but Tibetans were much happier in 1948 than 2010.
The big lie is that there were slaves in Tibet. Apparently HH Dalia Lama did use the word serfs in one of his 70+ books, but as his english isn't that great it doesn't really count as evidence that there were serfs in Tibet in my opinion.
But things have changed for Tibetans since 1949.
