@BijjalyGas I guess you can call it that... But then you're just saying anyone who in some way parts way with a band and forms his or her own is making a spin-off band.
i believe this song is about religion. the lyrics and the video fit perfectly. hell they show the flying spaghetti monster in the video.
the video starts out with the band having fun (like childhood), then the monster, then grohl looking upwards all weary and interested. then taking in the lies (ceremonial style) then spitting them out at the last one saying "ill be free". taken all and endured (puts head down). also showing the monster touching the knife he brushes his teeth with...
pt. 2 then at the last part of the song the monster is trying to reach them while they are jumping up and down (as though resisting) and the monster can't get to them and because it can't get to them it explodes. because its their willingness to cling itself to them that allows it to live.
@justlaxin22 I was thinking the same thing. Although Dave Grohl denied it for 15 years, he finally admitted that he wrote the song about Courtney Love and all her drama after Kurt Cobain died. I love this track!
If you like Rockn' Roll thats based on catchy guitar riffs, than you are in luck. I have composed a piece of music that consists of all the classic rock riffs that you know and love titled SYMPHONY OF THE GUITAR RIFF. Yeah, it has all your favorite moments in Rock history played back to back in one giant Riff Extravaganza. Come over to my channel and see what i mean.
I don't think this song is about Kurt or Courtney because he a demo of this whole album while he was still in nirvana he originally had no intention of releasing it
birdy47, it's about Courtney Love. She tried to seize exclusive rights to all Nirvana's material after Kurt's death. She wanted to straight-arm Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic out of their share. This is his way of saying, "Drop dead skank, I'm not going away!!" IMHO, it's the greatest angry song ever done.
he didnt DEDICATE it to her he he wrote it about her, about how his beleif in her involvment in kurt kobains death and about the fight between them over the rights to the music how he didnt owe her anything. idk thats just my opinion at least
So, in other word, you mean this song is a "take that" to Courtney Love? She certainly is one very messed up lady, so it's not too surprising to hear that she and Dave Grohl don't exactly get along.
foo's best song , without a doubt..raw , ballsy, power , energy, simple production and sound..the way it should be..for ALL ROCK BANDS !!! and dave's playing almost every instrument..!!!
You can still play faceless stadium rock with acoustic guitars, which is exactly what they did. I don't think you're understanding where I'm coming from.
BULLSHIT this isn't on the greatest hits CD. This is their 6th best song... 1 = Everlong Tied for 2 = The Pretender & Learn To Fly 4 = All My Life 5 = Monkey Wrench 7 & 8 = My Hero & Times Like These ; 9 = Breakout Tied for 10 = This is a Call & Big Me
what about Halo, Lonely as You, Generator, best of you?? personally im not crazy about "all my life", but do the foo's rock? the foo's rock indeed man!!
@ballplayer1799 hahaha! you're list of the top 10 songs by the foo fighters is ridiculous. most of the ones you put down are some of their worst songs. i mean that's just insane, i don't understand what people hear?
I'm sure I'll catch hell for this but..I pretty much think these guys stink,BUT this (in my opinion) is the coolest jam they ever made...and even tho I don't like Foo.. I respect/like Dave Grohl's work
Hey! thanks for uploading this vid, man , when I first saw this vid I said hey? that looks like Dave Grohl from Nirvana, then I said yeah that is him with pat smear!!! the rest is history!!!!!!! Love this vid classic 1995......
The song was left off of their greatest hits because Dave is a toolbox nowadays who's only interested in writing terrible stadium rock and can't recognize that his older songs are better. How he didn't include this, one of their first and best singles, on their greatest hits is beyond me.
What on earth makes you think it's Dave that's choosing the songs? Besides, In Your Honor is stadium rock, and that song is fantastic. Look, it's natural for artists to change. Don't get pissy about it.
Meh, if they hadn't went from terrible to being so awful, I wouldn't get pissy about it. If they become boring, fine, but their more recent stuff is just bad in a typical STADIUM RAWK sort of way.
i agree that they should have included this. but it's likely that the record company had a lot to do with the setlist. and the only reason bands make greatest hits albums is just because the record companies pressure them to do it so they can make money. so they wanted the album to be as marketable as possible so they only picked the most well known songs it doesnt have much to do with the quality of the music.
kind of bizarre to look back on this video now. one guy from nirvana, one guy from the germs, two guys from sunny day real estate... what a weird grouping (even if none of the rest of them actually played on this song)

Bringing the songs up to, if you own RB2 and imported RB1 songs: Learn To Fly All Of Colour And The Shape Times Like These I'll Stick Around This Is A Call DOA All My Life Lonely As You And Stacked Actors is on GH: Metallica..
Really like the song and the video...too bad ther original version, where Dave sings "I've been around all the pawns you've gagged and bound, they'll get a gun and shoot you down, and I'll be free". I did hear that version for a very short time on Mtv.
