@alexandalex90 uhhh it's pretty simple math and standard strategy. The guy with the most money bets exactly enough so that if the guy in second place bets everything he has and gets the question right, he will still have 1 or 2 dollars less than the other guy. if you have 50 and the other guy has 30, you bet 11, so that if you both get the answer right, you have 61 dollars, and it's not possible for him to beat you. Happens all of the time.

So instead of frantically writing it down (which would have removed all doubt), he stopped writing (since he knew he would not have time), and wrote it on the paper.

How is it possible that everyone knows this difficult question? Were they given all the answers beforehand and had time to rehearse, or is everyone smart like that?
@23parkour23 Jeopardy contestants go through testing before they even go to the final pool of people where contestants are chosen out of -- three rounds of testing to make sure they meet the show's standards. Then they are told usually months in advanced their show date. They take that time to study, some of them over 14 hours a day.
@miamimagicians Now it makes more sense. "Sometimes they study 14 hours a day" -- whooh doesn't sound fun at all. I've seen other shows that were much easier, way funner, and you win more money than here. I wouldn't even bother playing Jeopardy -- I had enough of school!

He didn't cheat. His pen malfunctioned. At 0:08 you can hear him very faintly say "I didn't write" (since contestants' mics aren't switched on until each person reveals what they wrote down). And when Alex asks at 0:10 "Didn't write?" He responds (again very faintly) "I couldn't get it to write," at 0:11. So basically yes, his pen didn't work
i mean i don't know...I don't know the show and its rules and everything...but I would wager that you're supposed to use the card if your pen doesn't work...inside of the allotted amount of time. I would be frustrated because he was given more time…if he used it to figure it out or not… yes it looked like he already was writing “Lafayette” but still… the guy on the left should have won because the middle guy didn’t get it done in time. I could never fully understand this jeopardy bullshit and how it works. Also the way they've set it up for the contestants is mentally twisting and not very enjoyable to watch and think along. Not sure if anyone else feels the same...
@BobifyYou It's not a real pen, it's a touch screen device. It is very possible that the screen's sensor for the answer was malfunctioning. But I admit, he was able to write "who is" on that portion. why couldn't he write the rest? But if he was so nervous, how was he able to write the final answer on the card?
@SureBarb His hands were shaking because he was so damn happy that he won, and he knew he won. And aside from that, below you can see he already was spelling out Lafayette but the touchscreen must have bugged out.
There was no way he cheated, because it was fair. Though some may say that his extra time was very unfair, but honestly him not having an answer would have been even more unfair. Besides, he knew the answer.
The runner up is thinking "bullshit".

@23parkour23 Jeopardy contestants go through testing before they even go to the final pool of people where contestants are chosen out of -- three rounds of testing to make sure they meet the show's standards. Then they are told usually months in advanced their show date. They take that time to study, some of them over 14 hours a day.

@miamimagicians Now it makes more sense. "Sometimes they study 14 hours a day" -- whooh doesn't sound fun at all. I've seen other shows that were much easier, way funner, and you win more money than here. I wouldn't even bother playing Jeopardy -- I had enough of school!

@miamimagicians To my understanding, no! One contestant described having an entire book case filled with binders of facts, sorted by subjects that he would read for hours a day. Former contestants have written books with tips to help you study efficiently, I think.

He didn't cheat. His pen malfunctioned. At 0:08 you can hear him very faintly say "I didn't write" (since contestants' mics aren't switched on until each person reveals what they wrote down). And when Alex asks at 0:10 "Didn't write?" He responds (again very faintly) "I couldn't get it to write," at 0:11. So basically yes, his pen didn't work

i mean i don't know...I don't know the show and its rules and everything...but I would wager that you're supposed to use the card if your pen doesn't work...inside of the allotted amount of time. I would be frustrated because he was given more time…if he used it to figure it out or not… yes it looked like he already was writing “Lafayette” but still… the guy on the left should have won because the middle guy didn’t get it done in time. You have 30 seconds to write your answer! unfair

I could never fully understand this jeopardy bullshit and how it works. Also the way they've set it up for the contestants is mentally twisting and not very enjoyable to watch and think along. Not sure if anyone else feels the same...

@BobifyYou It's not a real pen, it's a touch screen device. It is very possible that the screen's sensor for the answer was malfunctioning. But I admit, he was able to write "who is" on that portion. why couldn't he write the rest? But if he was so nervous, how was he able to write the final answer on the card?

@SureBarb His hands were shaking because he was so damn happy that he won, and he knew he won. And aside from that, below you can see he already was spelling out Lafayette but the touchscreen must have bugged out.
There was no way he cheated, because it was fair. Though some may say that his extra time was very unfair, but honestly him not having an answer would have been even more unfair. Besides, he knew the answer.
