Of course the soviets wanted to convert the world into communism, thats the base of Marxist theory and the reason for the cold war. The only reason that the Russians didn't run down the world was because of their limited industry (the five year plans) and those nasty world wars that tend to get in the way.

the reason for the eastern bloc was stalin's need for security and the cold war was caused by aggressive western policies such as the truman doctrine and the marshall plan, which provoked stalin into tightening his grip on eastern europe.

I'm happy theres someone on here with some sense. I do realize that the power and aggressive anti-communist stance of Western democracy kept the soviets in check. But Marxism was alive and well in Russia but altered because of circumstance not choice, it is not like the USSR was content with keeping socialism in one country though. They expanded communism in Korea, Vietnam, and China, as well as in central America, Cuba. I understand where your coming from but USSR wanted the world

Such a thing was only for a while, and was not extended throughout the battle. This was due to the germans breaking of Volga traffic and forcing the Russians to move ammunition only at night to avoid the German artillery that was being spotted for from the Kurgan IIRC. After November 14th, the Germans were the ones with the problems, worse problems actually, sometimes entire squads would have to split a single ration of bread near the end of January when the Russians were taking the airfields.
