Guys - can you tell me why exposure compensation is disabled when shooting with auto ISO enabled and a particular shutter speed and aperture combination manually selected? I would very much like to be able to use exposure compensation in this mode - effectively having it control how much auto ISO was raised or lowered by the camera logic. Can you suggest it as a mod for a future firmware release? Many thanks.
Thanks, Fuji Guys! Does the new 1.13 firmware update help to resolve some of the problems with autofocus in low light scenarios, and manual focus in low light scenarios? Buyers are happy that Fuji is quickly resolving any Sticky Shutter Blade problems. So, is there any news on the low light focus problems? Thank you!
Hey guys, thank you for your awesome site! One question. I read on dpreview that there is gonna be a huge firmware update for the X100 this january. Can you tell us what will be included? Keep up the good work!
@DrBukcake I do not have any information on upcoming firmware. Like you, i continue to push Tokyo for updates on the X100 as it is one of my favourite cameras to use.
@lfp1971 This FAQ on the X100, some settings are similar to the X10. You can also watch the X10 top Features video as well. not sure if i have time to do a FAQ for the X10 at the moment.
@kimberly9142 I would have it looked at if you had it for a while but within warranty and return it for a new one if you recently purchase the camera. 50 shots is too little for this camera and included batteries.
I also have a question about the sticky blades issue. I've been looking into this camera for street shooting but I see many forums complaining about the sticky blades. Do you guys have any info on this and whether fuji is doing anything about it? Thanks
@tromba25 I don't have any official words from Fujifilm on this issue yet. If you are experiencing such issues with your camera, you can have it looked at by a Fujifilm service centre in your area.
@DrBukcake Pre-focus by pressing the shutter button half-way. Try changing the focus mode to continous focus instead to increase the focus speed. Try shrinking or enlarging the focus area if in AF-S mode. But please pre-focus prior to taking the picture.
Hey fuji guys, I wasn't acquainted with this brand but I took a risk and told my cousin to get the fuji fine pix jv200 that was on sale. Had it since september and i'm displeased with it because the charge runs out in no time and I really don't keep it on when i'm using it. This is an hindrance especially when I have family occasions and school assignments. My relatives camera batteries last much longer compared to mine. Is something wrong with the battery? What should I do?
@kimberly9142 The battery performance on the JV200 is approx 180 shots per charge. If you are getting not near to this, then something is not right with your camera. Please ensure you charge the batteries for at least 4-6 hours. If you are using more flash, than you will get less shots out of the battery.
@kimberly9142 How many shots are you getting approx on a single charge? less than 50 shots? if that is the case, this is not normal. I would contact Fuji technical service centre in your area. US: 1-800-800-FUJI, Canada: 1-800-461-0416
@ryl77 Issue is with condensation and battery performance. Normal operation is rated at 0 - 40 degrees Celsius. If you have the camera climitazed to the temperature (leave it outside to match temperature without batteries in it) and you keep the battery warm in your pocket, camera should work. Can't guarantee however.
If you are thinking about buying this camera, do not buy it. There is a common 'sticky blades' problem that many x100 will eventually get due to the design of the lens in the x100. So far to date, Fujifilm has not even publicly acknowledged this problem. Shocking for a $1000+ premium camera. You can read about all the x100 owners complaining about it on the Fujifilm Talk forum on DPreview. Until Fujifilm acknowledges this issue, stay away from the x100!!
When is Fuji gonna make an official statement about the sticky blades? Will fuji give warranty on the blades also after the 1 year warranty? Will there be a recall?
@DrBukcake if you have any issues with the X100, please contact a Fujfiilm service centre in your area for assistances. With the aperture blades, we had very little unit in Canada that have any issues at all.
@DrBukcake Mine just started showing the signs of this issue...less than a month old and just about 1500 exposures...really disappointed. I figured the new batches would be free of this yet I was mistaken. I have a job to photograph and having my camera out of circulation for an issue they will not deal with publicly is troubling to say the least. Image quality can not make up for malfunction. "We went back to basics and asked ourselves, 'What kind of camera would we really want to own?" Hmmm
I just cancelled my amazon order after reading about all the focus ring issues.
Sad..my order was about to ship :(
I was willing to order and wait for a firmware update but decided otherwise after finding no word about any updates coming up. $1200 is a lot. I'm surprised that there is not even a single word from manufacturers about this issue which makes me think it can't be fixed.
@fujiguys, please fix that soon or you'll be losing many customers like me to the competition.
@dosareddi99 Sorry to hear that. I wish you kept the camera to try it out first for yourself vs reading anything online. Using the AEL/AEF button can quickly achieve focus. Use the MF ring to fine tune the focus. Only complaint with customers is either not knowing this or they want to jump from exteme focus points (infinity to near with 1 turn). Don't think MF ring is such an issue.
@fujiguys Thanks for getting back, really appreciated. Yes, I saw ur explanation of the AFL button in the video. Consider this example, I'm taking picture of something in a zoo that's behind a bright metal grill, wouldn't hitting the AFL button cause it to lock on the grill instead of the object behind it.
I would imagine the ideal system to work the other way around, quickly set focus with MF ring, and then hit AFL to do perfect focus in the camera.
@dosareddi99 Hitting the AFL button, it will try to lock on what even you have the AF square aimed at. MF ring is mainly used for fine tuning focus while the Instant focus via the AFL quicks you give focus. If you are shooting at the zoom, the animal is not gonna dissapper so you do have time to rotate the focus ring to your desired focus distance. I do however thing a method to get the camera from Infinitiy, Middle, Near focus would be nice and have been pushing for this.
@dosareddi99 Buddy, you are missing out. I just sold my Canon DSLR setup and bought this camera and it is amazing. Sure the manual focus isn't like how it is on DSLR's but then again most DSLR users use autofocus with manual focus only for occasional fine tuning (autofocus is faster and more accurate). The price tag is justified imo because it chops the Leica X1 in every possible way and that camera costs $1600+
@2bugzy7 Your HS20? or X100? Either case, is it affecting your images? Best thing is to contact your Fujifilm service centre in your area to additional help.
@dermark34 You could shoot in RAW with -2 EV and then use the Built-in Raw conversion to do some Push/Pull processing up to +3 EV. But comment noted. Thanks
Question: Is it possible that the camera automatically displays the current photographed image only on the display and not in the viewfinder? (like all dslrs can do)
I would like the viewfinder always ready to shoot / be able to look trough, but also see the image directly on the display.
Thank you, I forgot one important thing: when the camera automatically displays the current photographed image it is not possible to directly delete this image or to look through the other images you have taken. Instead you first have to press „ok“ and then „play“ before you can „work“ with the images.
Know what I mean? Sorry, I`m not a native English speaker.
@fujiguys I agree with dermark34 on his second comment. If you take a crap photo you should be able to delete it as soon as you take it (like a canon), rather than needing to go into the play menu. Aside from that and the menu hierarchy, I love the camera =)
A firmware release to fix the focus issues would be better than a new camera. I do love my x100, but the auto focus is not reliable and the focus ring is only good for fine tuning. I fear mine will be appearing on eBay very shortly, which is a pity as the image quality is spectacular.
Why do the aperture blades open and close in between auto focusing in bright light? Other cameras don't do this. This 'aperture dancing' really slows down the camera's response times. Is this necessary. Can it be fixed?
Thank you again Greg and Billy, the friendly Fuji guys! I believe you guys are on the ball and have released a firmware which improves the camera! Wow great, it happens 3 days before I get the camera... I will install in before starting to explore the camera. 3 long days still..
Thanks Greg and Billy for your reply. I cant wait for 8 more days when my camera complete with the hood etc arrives. (I was bad and bought it all on a premium..)
I appreciate your reply regarding IS but I do want to go on record saying I so wish the camera comes with 4 stop IS one day... That is my dream modification on the camera. That will be big help when I am shooting close ups and also when light is super low.
@sanjayfg I think when you actually use the camera, you will be impressed of the high ISO capabilities that for most situations, not having I.S. will not be a big concern. I agree, I.S. would be great, but with practice, 1/15s is not that hard to keep still with a 35mm equilvalent lense.
Why can't the OVF give 100% viewing for middle distance shooting; around 2-3 metres? It can go where it likes after that, with more in the shot for wide shots and less captured for close ups. The EVF is used for macro anyway. This is a major (and unnecessary) design fault that ruins the OVF option.
@gregs66 Thank you for reply, but I don't understand,…' framing lines leave the edge of the screen'. Why would this happen? they just need to be a tiny bit wider all around. There's plenty of room in the X100 viewfinder. Leica sorted their M8 frames which were as bad as X100, after admitting they were wrong. They are now very accurate. The frames could be corrected with firmware. They're useless for professionals as they are. It's very disappointing.
@sanjayfg A) Yes, B) Yes, C) Yes as the ability for customization of the lens to the sensor would not be possible (well at least cost effective). I believe in I.S. however not so much with a 35mm equivalent lens. Especially the quality of ISO settings up to 3200 and a fast lens should allow for decent shutterspeeds for most situation. Others, use a tripod, or enable the flash.
@DrBukcake Understand that a DSLR with a lens can cost that much, this camera does offers a different photo experience to users who can appreciate this. Compact size, High IQ, High Build Quality, Hybrid Viewfinder, Asthetics are just some of a few things that this camera has going for it. Most importanly of course is Image Quality and at high ISO!
My biggest request is for the time to decrease from shutter press to focus acquisition and release. The single shot AF is just slow enough to miss any action shots, definitely slower than the GF1. If that could be improved.. brilliant! And, yes, this is with Quick Start On, OVF Power Save off, and auto power off at 5 minutes. PLEASE pass this request up the chain! Greatly Appreciated!
Get an E-P1, don't get this camera. It's a major draw back in almost every aspect to the E-P1, especially in price and losing the ability to change lenses. Even if you don't change lenses or don't want to, wouldn't you like to know the fact you spent a lot less for a camera and got a lot more?
@helgenx This is so not true. First of all E-P1 doesn´t even offer the OPTION of a EVF, which is included in the X100. If you get an E-P2 with an EVF the price is almost the same, but your still stuck with the crappy kit-lens and pictures which are quite ok...but nowhere near the X100.
@Crichilles How much did Fuji pay you to type that ridiculousness? Who gives a shit about an EVF? If I wanted an EVF, I'd get the E-P2, which looks like shit from personal use. Second, crappy kit lens? Look man, I don't respect people who read online reviews then say the exact same shit as them, so before you even talk, why not actually use the cameras. The 17mm lens (not sure if it comes with the E- cameras anymore) is one of the best lenses for M43's, so what you said is absurd.
@Crichilles I didn't mean to come off so rude by the way. I guess I am a fanboy of my E-P1. I did mean to say any Pen or Panny M43 camera. Also, I used the X100 in one of my local camera shops in Fukuoka, and I didn't like the results at all like when I first tried the E-P1 2 years ago. Take a look at some samples, then take a look at these from this site: nynippon.net46.net/
@helgenx I see. I agree that the PEN are great cameras and especially the E-P1 was ahead of its time by far. And it´s true, the first results of an X100 can be upsetting, just because compared to a PEN you really have to get into it first. Nevertheless...the results at high ISOs of the X100 even beat my Canon 60D. Seriously. But a PEN can be a very sensible option if you want a compact WITH interchangeable lenses.
I have bought this beautiful camera 2 weeks ago and 9/10 its in a box that come with it. I found out a speck of dust trap inside the lens when I gave it a good air blow just before I place on a UV filter. I am quite annoyed with the dust and wondering whether Fujifilm will be able to offer a cleaning service??
We need direct access to varying the ISO setting - either via the rear wheel or the rear thumb lever. Also - please get rid of the huge 'ISO Selection' menu which covers the entire EVF when changing ISO.
@SLRist Direct access can be via the "fn" button. This is the default setting of the fn (to access ISO). I agree with you when using the EVF for ISO change, it should be like the OVF. I'll push changes.
Why cant you change the size of the AFL/AEL focus box when in manual focus??
Why isn't 6400 ISO an option in auto ISO control??
When in mf you can macro auto focus as close as 10cm, but when in AF-S you have to press macro to make it work? (every time you take a picture??) Why??
@MrJuhlfugl In MF mode, focus is obviously manually (changing the size doesn't achieve anything). The size of the focus box is equal to the "focus zoom" size "Command level pushed inwards) that enlarges to fill the screen. ISO6400 in auto, If you are shooting 6400, i don't think you want the camera to auto select this setting. MF Macro questions: camera could possibily do this (EXR Auto/SR Auto on our compact cameras) however it believe it could affect AF speed.
Thanks for the review. I find it hard to believe that after spending a considerable sum for this camera, Fuji decided to gouge the customer even more for the filter adaptor and lens hood. So wrong. Should have been in the box!
@bluesparkledrumset let's say Fuji decided to include adaptor and lens hood and the price is 1.3k instead of 1.2k, sounds better for you? How about this, I rarely use the lens cap now, should i request Fuji to exclude it from the package and make the price lower like 1.15k?
@enzym Ok. I will look into that. I kinda rush this video a bit and should have shown proper demo's like the MF focus on actual subjects. Next time i guess.
My biggest problems are with accuracy of autofocus using OF. One thing I found is that I can make the focus box very small using the EVF as you describe. You cannot do this with the OF. Worse, if I set the box to the smallest in EVF and go to the OF, not only is it big but when I return to EVF the focus box remains big. A) I'd like to be able to use the smallest box with OF. B) I want the EVF box to remain small and no revert to the larger box. Could you include this in next firmware?

Why is MF so much slower in low light? You have to turn the focus ring about 5 times as much in low light making it very hard to use.

Hello Greg and Billy.
Great video, great camera! Mine will be with me end of this month...!!
Could you please educate me on one point:
Why is incorporating Stabilization into the camera a bad idea: Does it:
a) Increase costs?
b) Increase size?
c) Reduce quality?
Asking because I am sure ISO 400 results in better quality than ISO 3200 (which 4 stops stabilization would provide.)
I understand that u guys strongly believe that this camera does not require IS but my question is: HOW CAN IT HURT?
sanjayfg 8 months ago
@sanjayfg A) Yes, B) Yes, C) Yes as the ability for customization of the lens to the sensor would not be possible (well at least cost effective). I believe in I.S. however not so much with a 35mm equivalent lens. Especially the quality of ISO settings up to 3200 and a fast lens should allow for decent shutterspeeds for most situation. Others, use a tripod, or enable the flash.
fujiguys 8 months ago
Why doesn't it sell for 500 euros/ $600?
DrBukcake 8 months ago
@DrBukcake Understand that a DSLR with a lens can cost that much, this camera does offers a different photo experience to users who can appreciate this. Compact size, High IQ, High Build Quality, Hybrid Viewfinder, Asthetics are just some of a few things that this camera has going for it. Most importanly of course is Image Quality and at high ISO!
fujiguys 8 months ago
Anyway in future firmware to increase single shot autofocus speed greatly appreciated. Also better focusing with OF. Thanks.
johnkkraus 9 months ago
My biggest request is for the time to decrease from shutter press to focus acquisition and release. The single shot AF is just slow enough to miss any action shots, definitely slower than the GF1. If that could be improved.. brilliant! And, yes, this is with Quick Start On, OVF Power Save off, and auto power off at 5 minutes. PLEASE pass this request up the chain! Greatly Appreciated!

Any advantages when making the focus point bigger? Will focusing be better?
IxWiNdxI 9 months ago
@IxWiNdxI Better for tracking and obtaining focus on moving subject. Subjects with big heads :-)

Get an E-P1, don't get this camera. It's a major draw back in almost every aspect to the E-P1, especially in price and losing the ability to change lenses. Even if you don't change lenses or don't want to, wouldn't you like to know the fact you spent a lot less for a camera and got a lot more?
helgenx 9 months ago
@helgenx This is so not true. First of all E-P1 doesn´t even offer the OPTION of a EVF, which is included in the X100. If you get an E-P2 with an EVF the price is almost the same, but your still stuck with the crappy kit-lens and pictures which are quite ok...but nowhere near the X100.
Crichilles 9 months ago
@Crichilles How much did Fuji pay you to type that ridiculousness? Who gives a shit about an EVF? If I wanted an EVF, I'd get the E-P2, which looks like shit from personal use. Second, crappy kit lens? Look man, I don't respect people who read online reviews then say the exact same shit as them, so before you even talk, why not actually use the cameras. The 17mm lens (not sure if it comes with the E- cameras anymore) is one of the best lenses for M43's, so what you said is absurd.
helgenx 9 months ago
@Crichilles I didn't mean to come off so rude by the way. I guess I am a fanboy of my E-P1. I did mean to say any Pen or Panny M43 camera. Also, I used the X100 in one of my local camera shops in Fukuoka, and I didn't like the results at all like when I first tried the E-P1 2 years ago. Take a look at some samples, then take a look at these from this site: nynippon.net46.net/
helgenx 9 months ago
@helgenx I see. I agree that the PEN are great cameras and especially the E-P1 was ahead of its time by far. And it´s true, the first results of an X100 can be upsetting, just because compared to a PEN you really have to get into it first. Nevertheless...the results at high ISOs of the X100 even beat my Canon 60D. Seriously. But a PEN can be a very sensible option if you want a compact WITH interchangeable lenses.
Crichilles 9 months ago
@Crichilles @helgenx thanks for answering. The X100 is not for everyone. If you learn to use it, you will really appreciate what is offers.

Hi Fujiguys,
I have bought this beautiful camera 2 weeks ago and 9/10 its in a box that come with it. I found out a speck of dust trap inside the lens when I gave it a good air blow just before I place on a UV filter. I am quite annoyed with the dust and wondering whether Fujifilm will be able to offer a cleaning service??
Thank you
vtdesignUK 9 months ago
@vtdesignUK Lens will have to be replaced if the dust is inside the lens. Contact Fuji UK for more assistances.
fujiguys 9 months ago
@fujiguys Thank you for your response and your advice.

We need direct access to varying the ISO setting - either via the rear wheel or the rear thumb lever. Also - please get rid of the huge 'ISO Selection' menu which covers the entire EVF when changing ISO.
SLRist 9 months ago
@SLRist Direct access can be via the "fn" button. This is the default setting of the fn (to access ISO). I agree with you when using the EVF for ISO change, it should be like the OVF. I'll push changes.

Is there are preferred email address for submitting firmware bug/fix requests?

@lhl No. Use the finepix-x100 website to post your comments and concerns. Thanks.

Great video for folks who just bought the camera.
I would like to know...
Great camera though;-)
MrJuhlfugl 9 months ago
@MrJuhlfugl In MF mode, focus is obviously manually (changing the size doesn't achieve anything). The size of the focus box is equal to the "focus zoom" size "Command level pushed inwards) that enlarges to fill the screen. ISO6400 in auto, If you are shooting 6400, i don't think you want the camera to auto select this setting. MF Macro questions: camera could possibily do this (EXR Auto/SR Auto on our compact cameras) however it believe it could affect AF speed.
fujiguys 9 months ago
You should mention that adjusting the aperture in 1/3 stops with the command control doesn't work in Aperture Priority mode.
heron1991 9 months ago
@heron1991 Yes, thanks but i hope we correct this actually.
fujiguys 9 months ago
@fujiguys That would be really cool! Cheers.
heron1991 9 months ago
Thanks for the review. I find it hard to believe that after spending a considerable sum for this camera, Fuji decided to gouge the customer even more for the filter adaptor and lens hood. So wrong. Should have been in the box!
bluesparkledrumset 9 months ago
@bluesparkledrumset Does the Leica X1 (approx 2k) include a lens hood / adapter ring?
fujiguys 9 months ago
@bluesparkledrumset let's say Fuji decided to include adaptor and lens hood and the price is 1.3k instead of 1.2k, sounds better for you? How about this, I rarely use the lens cap now, should i request Fuji to exclude it from the package and make the price lower like 1.15k?

Guys, I guess for long Q&A or FAQs, maybe future version needs blog or article to accompany this.
enzym 9 months ago
@enzym Ok. I will look into that. I kinda rush this video a bit and should have shown proper demo's like the MF focus on actual subjects. Next time i guess.

Thanks for the helpful info on the X100. I think the length and detail are perfect for X100 owners.
