  • this is a fighthouse video. the gym is located in chelsea new york. simon practices kung fu and systema.

  • Serge, you have good form but you're not quick enough on your toes. You don't react like a cat which is the way you should respond.

  • thats not real ng mui. ng mui uses alot of deadly open hand/ palm techniques

  • That is the only real Wu Mui ( Ng Mui ) school around as far as I know but I would like to know who his teacher is/was

  • Wow i found this clip very interesting indeed. Especially the guy in the dark clothes. Could you please tell me the name of your art? That is the first time i have seen someone spar in that manner. And it just appealled to me instantly. Thanks in advance.

  • ng mui is the name of the art i believe.

  • this was interesting to watch. It appears that I fight with very similar tactics that Simon used here. I will generally keep an opponent at a distance first with long range punches and low kicks (which it seems many are susceptible to). I use a combo of Jeet Kune Do, Long Fist, Northern Shaolin, as well as bits of other CMA, Kali, Muay Thai, and Jujutsu. May I inquire as to the general strategie(s) of Ng Mui?

  • lol are u actually hitting him simon?

  • You guys look pretty good...

  • thats not sparring. You have to make contact... try putting some gloves on. You don't have to hit hard.. but you do have to hit... or what is the point?

  • that was a interesting fight. both were pretty good at evading attacks.

  • Some comments from a MA sparring vet (sort of):

-As a martial artist, not a boxer, try not to stand so square, it leaves open a lot of targets (unless that's your style of MA)

    - get your kicks a bit higher and faster. from what i see, you're focusing on knee level and lower. Try to hit gut and solar plexus level. [don't actually hit, tho :)]

    - Nice style. Is it vietnamese?

  • keep it up

  • what has serge trained in?

  • hey mate, i'm not extremely experienced ... but just a thought, i notice you punching when he was still a distance away, my opinion is either a) u wait till he comes it B) use kicks instead... and when the guy in the black shirt does come in... his head is open cus i see his hands quite low usually.. and yeh better than stepping back when he jumps in is to sidestep or jus front kick to face... jus a thought hope it dunt offend no one :)

  • I'm the guy in the dark shirt but I know Serge wouldn't be offended.

In my opinion, punching from a distance isn't always bad. You'll be able to land a counter on someone who jumps in with no guard; unfortunately, me in this case :)

  • not all strikes are meant to hit, but good observation (:

  • Good Luck. I'll subscribe to your videos so I can see what it looks like next time. Peace

  • Not necessarily more force or more step in but more of where you put your mind when you execute your techniques. The intent is essentially the same you just don't use the amount of Li or Jing you would in a real fight. Am I making sense?

  • Yes, I think I understand a little more. My attitude was to keep the spar fun and enjoyable. This was a reaction to advice from older students that I was too tense when I focused too hard. So I tried to keep a lighter mindset when I sparred. However, it seems that I have taken that too the extreme and as you noticed - it took away substance from my attacks. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

  • I don't know which person you are so I was saying that the person wearing the TShirt should throw his techniques with more intent and focus. Even though it's a light spar he should be a little more serious with his techniques so they have more substance. FOr an example peep my video with me sparring my student that I posted last Saturday.

  • Ah, I'm the one in the blue shirt. When I sparred I did intend to hit him but I miss because of his fast backstep. Wait, by intent, do you mean more force or more of a step-in? Sorry if I am asking a lot, but I feel this input would be very helpful for me. By the way, I like the palm work in the video. I especially liked how you shifted the stance around the tree. Neat stuff.

  • You guys are doing your thing. Keep it up. I would step to the side gate more and not fight so squared up. Both of yall are open for groin kicks all day. Try to get a little more focus (tshirt) and play your techniques with more intent. It was a good start tho.

    Peace

  • Thanks for your comment. My sifu also commented on the fact that I stayed squared up most of the time. I feel that I am probably not used to such a defensive opponent and feel the need to attack quickly. What do you mean by more focus and the t-shirt? Again, I thank you for your comments. I will keep them in mind in my training.
