He's really good (god?). --^_^-- If you heard lot of his song, you have different emotion in once. He know how attract audience's attention. It's for me the Einstein of the music. He knows that if you used lot of special effect, you give less emotion or not at all.

when you get to the level that both players get to. there is no better. it's just a matter of taste. anything paul plays, joe can play.. and anything joe plays so too can paul. this being said joe can tweak more emotion out of the instrument than paul. check out "love thing". it's not just technical muscle memory workout. it's about expression and emotion.

I think Joe Satriani is better. His solo's got more feeling. Paul only got fast solo's Listen to Get Out Of My Yard and than Always With Me With You and you hear what I Mean.
I admire both guitar players and idolize both of them. Joe satriani, for me has the edge because he is my idol and i listen to every single song of every album of his. Both are amazing because they r unique and can play every style of guitar but joe satriani is legendary composer, not to say that paul gilbert isnt amazing either. i think every1 should appreciate both player's contributions to the music world.
I like PG's style , but his tone is really poor most of the time, such a great player, can someone give him some decent amps and effects and then show him how to dial in an awesome sounds, therefore JS wins hands down for that reason. Playing fast is one thing but its not everything....melody, tone and a hook is more important, thats what we remember

@debakkertje12 Satch is indeed highly technical, but I think there is no way that PG is less technical. HIs technique is insane: Fast picking, extremely skilled legato, highly rhythmically sequenced string skips. Even sweeping is what he is good at, even though he always said that he never swept, or that he was scared of sweeping.
Anyway, comparing those two is stupid, because both of them are amazing. Personally I prefer PG. He has evolved over the years, and I guess he is still evolving.
Both guitarists are incredible. I'd say both are better in their own aspects. Paul is a speed machine and has many great techniques, without a doubt as well as being quite versatile. Satch is more your classic rock guitarist with a great overall knowledge.
This video is bias toward Paul Gilbert. More time and more technical work was put into the video, and then puts in Super Colossal? Anyway, I like them about the same. If I was to listen to the songs though, I would have to choose Satch. While maybe not quite as technical, I like the Alien's music better.

That main fast lick in Get Out of My Yard has to be the best application of a simple concept ever. A simple E Minor Arpeggio played three notes per string over 3 octaves. It is in no way simple to play though. The stretching and speed he plays it at is above Godly. When he demonstrates that lick using a standard 6 string it really shows his string skipping skills even though he plays it on the double neck for easier shreddage..
Why do kid's disrespect Kirk Hammett ?I hope they know the popularity for the music they love and longevity of that particular scene is due to Metallica in a big way.Some of the most iconic riffage came from Kirk and you sound stupid making fun of someone who basically helped reinvent a form of music that was suffering from mainstream watering down;but hey hate Kirk and love poison or Giuffria or how about those original guy's Europe?
Normally I don't pick on these vs. sites but in this case I prefer to hear Paul's playing and I judge that by how much music by one particular artist can I sit and listen to at one time.Both are amazing artist's though.Satrianis' problem for me is not in his mellow rock stuff but in his faster tempo'd song's;his sound hasn't changed since the 80's.I would like to hear Satriani A:do an extreme fusion song like Greg Howe or B:do an all out metal song with crunching low's and grinding rhythm forfun

For me better guitarist would be Joe Satriani because when it comes to being a guitarist apart from techniques and speed song writing is also an important thing some guitarist are wholly praised because of their writing skills (eg. SLASH) and IMO Satriani is better song writer ..!

@TheGusto69 I've been playing guitar for 5years now and I totally adapted the playing style of Gilbert 'cause it's my guitar hero ;) but I also love Satriani's music.... I just love how he can use these modes and be so creative... so I really can't choose though Gilbert is my hero :)

for me its got to be satch he has it all gilbert has speed and technique but he lacks soul its very rarely gilbert plays beautiful music he can shred the hell outta his guitar but so can satriani he doesnt play super fast all the time because its not needed he plays what ever benifits the music he isnt called the guitarists guitarist for no reason both are incredible satch is my all fav player of all time but shawn lane beens them both for technical playin hands down but satch still wins

For me better guitarist would be Joe Satriani because when it comes to being a guitarist apart from techniques and speed song writing is also an important thing some guitarist are wholly praised because of their writing skills (eg. SLASH) and IMO Satriani is better song writer ..!
But Paul did taught Buckethead..!! My favourite guitarist..!! :D

it's obvious the pick of the uploader. 3/4 of the video is Gilbert. lol. Honestly, I like Gilbert better, but I don't know if he's a better guitarist. He's faster and cleaner with alternate picking, but I have to say Satch impresses me more with the licks he comes up with. It's hard to pick..

@TheGusto69 I've been playing guitar for 5years now and I totally adapted the playing style of Gilbert 'cause it's my guitar hero ;) but I also love Satriani's music.... I just love how he can use these modes and be so creative... so I really can't choose though Gilbert is my hero :)

You know what if PG didnt do any lessons from the start almost every guitarist would cry.I mean look..you think Gilbert's playing is always pattern based and all those stuff.But what if paul didnt tell us a thing or two about his playing.you might think he's an alien.Satriani is awesome as heck as well.But I prefer PG.

Gilbert is underrated as hell. He's like a faster and slightly more dextrous George Lynch. Very rock and roll but crazy as hell.

Eh, and Becker sadly is better than both, because he is a combination of both: he has the amazing shredding ability of Gilbert, and a greater knowledge of music in general than Satch.
