Americans need to realize that this 'British' accent is an upper class accent that THE VAST majority of people in England do not have! There are many different accents in Britain with the vast majority of them being very difficult to understand.... the notion that Americans have that all British talk like ED is just ignorance.... in fact i prefer the standard american accent to 90% of British accents.

@MoshZimmer read my post carefully again... i am well aware that america has dozens of regional accents BUT THEY ARE NOT AS DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER AS THE REGIONAL ACCENTS IN BRITAIN!! Here in Britain some accents sound like the person isn't even speaking English! That cannot be said for even the most remote and unique accent in america. And yes there is a 'standard' american accent, however there isn't a 'standard' British accent.
