  • I confess I dream of this nightly.

  • Now give it to The Stig!

  • If I COULD try this at home, believe me, I WOULD.

  • Who came up with the Emotiv Epoc idea first? The Berlin scientists or Prototype This? I think the Prototype This team will be pleased either way.

  • Funny how it says 'don't do this at home' as if I've got a spare car with cameras and sensors and laser scanners..

  • omg this could go horribly wrong if your drunk and very funny when your high.

  • Mind= Blown

  • need too much focus on driving.. people with complicated thinking can't drive like this.. not safe at all...

  • sooo stupid.... people don't need hands free driving. if this ever comes to the public i will never drive on roads ever again

  • how in the heck would i try this at home...

  • "Don't try this at home." How could I possibly try that at home?

  • @kcj1993

    :D :D :D

  • why katy perry is on the video suggestion?

  • @13mdark "Fireworks" happen when you crash

  • @nniicckk66006600 haha LOL

  • i wanna play ego shooters with that :P

  • can you drift?

  • Cars already got tvs, dvd players, computers, ipod stations, mp3 plug-ins, voice-activated calling, talking gps, push start ignition, rearview/front/side cameras, tracking devices, automatic lock, theft/alcohol/fingerprint detection, automatic heating/cooling massaging seats, *deep breath*, it can locate itself; open & close a door, trunk, or hood; run on ethanol, electricity, veg. oil, & water; you can start, stop, or check the status of it from your phone, & now it's brain controlled. REALLY?!

Excelente desarrollo.

  • Just remember that if electromagnetic signals can travel from the brain to the outside world then they can also travel from the outside world to the brain...as others have said, mind controlling can lead to one's mind being controlled. I'll stick to my steering wheel, thank you very much.

  • It would be cool to use this on Ego-Shooters!

  • oare merge si pe dacia 1310 ?:)))

  • WTF !!! best invention ever !! i wanna control not just a car but every damn computer thing with my brain, it could be almost like having a superpower ... i really hope this gets usable before i get old and die :(

  • k de pinga ta esa mierda

  • Rolls royce phantom + this technology (improved) = OWNAGE ! :D

  • @smart8228 I'd feel safer in a Jag lol

  • +1

  • Squirrel!

  • YES.

  • what if someone got drunk? which way would the car go? lol

  • @raeed84 in the same way if the driver try drive a car with hands... :S

  • They said don't try this at home but if you have the resources to construct this I think you have the knowledge to properly test it out.

  • Cool , but when i mind to go near P-***y can i go with car ???

  • to good to be true

  • wow! thats cool.. now all we have to do is to try to control our own brains and our own thogths and thats an entire different story..

Huna have tried to do so for millenarties.. maybe the daily lama wil be able ot drive a car that way an even him cant. will take a yogi with lifetime experience in controling his own thought to be able to dont think about anyhting else but striang left rigth while driving. if oyu are tired and hungry, what does the car? go direct home or crahs?

  • full controls of machines with our brains... doesn't she mean full control of our brains with machines?! xD

  • Now Stephen Hawking can drive

  • mycarmychoice (dot) com under tech funda...I personally found it interesting

  • Check this out mycarmychoice presets a great analysis of this technology, titled :

The car that thinks The thinking car or mindless junk?

  • its cool but is it REALLY necessary?

  • Hopefully when these cars are mass-produced people still have the option to manually drive(hands and feet)

Cause some people can't concentrate well and some people have ADD...

  • Damnit, this just rendered my knee-driving skills obsolete....

  • Knowing me and my ADD i would probably screw up the system and cause the car to explode...somehow.

  • how the hell would i try this at home? yeah maybe if i had like 100,000 extra dollars and i was a scientist...

  • @Zaharkl The sensor they used costs around 150 pounds, and comes with software that can be trained to simulate keystrokes or send signals to different ports. all you have to do is spend a few hundred pounds or less setting up a simple motor around the wheel and wire up the laptop to it. It could be done with a pic chip and a usb cable. so all in all, you could do this for around 500 pounds, assuming you have a car and a laptop.

Of course if you mess up and crash the car, it will cost a lot!

  • @Zaharkl Hahaha. I was thinking the same thing.

  • I'd be driving along and see a sign that says no left turns. Instant wreck

  • never try this at home ....

  • This would be difficult to control if you were listening to "Irreplaceable". I can see it now....

"To the left to the CRASH".

  • @IHasChannel Im pretty sure that's the only line people remember of that song.

  • great. now a hot woman crossing the street can actually cause an accident LOL

  • @neeraj2608 well that is actually a fact who hapen quiet often. no need for a mind controled car to do so.

  • @neeraj2608 yeah like 9 cars would run directly into her because thats the one direction theyre thinking of going

  • @neeraj2608 Actually the same brain impulse you would use to actually step on the break could be programmed to be the impulse to actually stop the car. You still need a brain signal to do a movement in the first place, so this is not that different to how we currently use the brain for driving, conceptually speaking.

  • @neeraj2608 they should add a special patter for that, so the car slows down or stops!

  • I'm getting one next week

  • But if he got tired and slept for a second.. it would be a disaster,

i usually sleep and wake when i drive for long distance :D

  • LOL! I don't need valets anymore. I just think for my car to pick me up!

  • Gizmodo brought me here

  • The next thing will be Stephen Hawking driving a Porsche. Well done, guys -honestly.

  • finally i can jerk off AND drive around the kindergarden by myself *insert awesome face *

  • fake

  • define "small delay"

  • Now all buy Passat who wanna control car with mind. :D

  • I mean... Except I'll totally be sitting there thinking "Okay, I need to turn left. Not right. NOT right. Right. I MEAN LEFT. FUCK"

because NOT thinking things is a lot harder than not DOING them.

  • @FiniteSunrise true, I think this is at first sight a very cool and 'easy' thing but i dont like the concept...and i think this is almost imposible..cause we all very often think things that we DONT want to think but we still think them!!! does that make any sense lol? :D no really, its actually way better doing this then thinking them! :)

  • For some reason it reminds me of Stereo by David Cronenberg.

Not because of the prototype that is shown, just the video in itself.

But I should maybe quit pot.

  • useless crap.. this is only good for ppl with no arms.

  • @mihaimyxz It's interesting

  • "Don't try this at home"

Sure, I promise I won't.. for a reason that it would be just waaaaay to expensive!

  • so.. if i'm thinking of porn.. will the car start to jerk itself off..?

  • @avaroses you could train the headset to accelerate when you think of porn, and to decelerate when you think about Anne Widdecombe

  • @avaroses Yeah, the wheels will grab their engine.

  • This will be so boring... when I get in my car I want to drive by my self, change gears and turn the steering wheel when I want as the speed I want, I'm not so sure about this

  • Obviously not ready for prime time because that headgear will totally mess up my hair.

  • I do not want to be on the road when someone else is driving a car like this. Voice-recognition software has been around for years, and it's nowhere near 100% accurate. This is way more complex, and since you're driving a potentially deadly object, I don't think even 99% accuracy is acceptable.

  • what if you are getting a blowjob while driving?

  • "Don't try it at home"?? DAMN IT, now the mind controlled car I have in my garage will have to go unused!

  • Won't it be boring? All you can do is sit and watch, and you can't think about anything else or the car will go x_X

  • ...and then a squirrel jumps out and all your brainwaves go to s**t.

  • ...and then squirrel jump out and all your brainwaves go to s**t.

  • Never try this at home? Ok, because THAT's what will stop me.

  • man imagine this. "hey you get the hel off the road or i will ram your a- - oh shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice ))

  • its an awesome thing and a great step in technology but im afraid too much people have no good control over their mind they could cause an accident

  • oh this is bad.. thats just an accident waitin 2 happen lol imagine seein a hot girl while driving ur brain would go in circles nd ur car be doin da same. BEWARE GOOD LOOKING WOMAN OF THE FUTURE

  • doesn't look like he can have a very fast reaction time...also how're you supposed to turn the wheel part of the way?

  • I really hope that this kind of technology will be like the Matrix for gaming! Hopefully we can get this kind of technology, like a virtual reality type for gaming if they can implement this!

  • @Shadowfury They're talking about near-telekinesis and you're worried about GAMING???? Doh!

  • I think this technology could serve better for prosthesises.

  • this is great for gaming console like xbox ps3 and wii.

  • yea try do this after dropping a tab of lsd. i hope they got auto mode.

  • This technology is a bit too late. why bother to use brain waves to drive when computers can drive themselves?

Full automation is the future of driving.

However, this technology could be helpful in other areas such as prosthetics and exoskeletons that requires more complex movements at will.

  • VW testing in berlin? has to be a joke

  • @rizzk89

It's not VW testing. This is a project of the "Freie Universität Berlin" robotics/pattern recognition/AI research group around Prof. Raul Rojas.

  • thanks but no thanks! I like driverless cars better! still cool, though!

  • you get stressed or loose your attention and you're dead!

  • @mpeniak Much like normal driving?

  • @anthropreneur even worse since the brain interface is really at its beginning and what it's doing is simply interpreting familiar patterns that were trained a priori so getting unbalanced mentally might cause completely wrong readouts imho

  • @mpeniak That's why, I think, people of the 21 century will have to learn to achieve full control over their reactions to stress. :-D

  • @imaginaruis hehehe yeah that'd be awesome :D

I love the idea of the brain interface and I have been thinking of using this particular one (because it's reasonably cheap) for controlling a humanoid robot in my lab... there is still little or no Linux support though.

  • amazing!

  • handsfree driving... i bet this technology will turn long & boring highway trips into masturbation orgys.

  • insane!

  • Beware the women drivers even more, all it takes is a large road sign advertising a bare-chested male, and they'll end up crashing into something...ugh.

On a more positive note, we're finally in the age of 'Total Recall' only better :)

But still no Mars Colony :(

  • I get the feeling that so much of future technology is going to be similar to this.

  • Imagine driving drunk with it there.

  • ¿y si veo unas tetas?

  • I bet Ray William Johnson approves this message too!

  • Don't try it at home?! What will I do with my modified mind control car now!

  • perfect for my girlfriend

  • @aperez19781 She will take you straight to the nearest clothing store!

  • Finaly.

XD 2050¿?

  • This is the future

  • Awesome

  • Ez mekkora sz@r....

  • Now all we need is advanced robots to mind control and we will officially be the laziest species on the planet.

    I can't wait, really.

  • Thank Religion for slowing us down

  • @Manito165 Religion slowed human history down by at least 1000 years.

  • @Prolite Amen!

  • @Prolite

As did the fall of Rome.

  • @FelixTheBarbarian Not sure about that. Rome was doomed to fail anyway.

  • @Prolite

But I mean that if Rome hadn't been destroyed, the Dark Ages wouldn't have happened and technology would have kept advancing instead of going backwards. e.g. we may have had electricity by the 1500s.

  • Insane! Bravo, folks! Bravo!

  • "...until we can control machines with our brains." So futuristic.

  • he could just step outside the car and start driving.. people on the road will freak the hell out :D

  • @rhynobots May be the sensor on the car can not get brain activity if he is far away from the car

  • @dfhgljw2009 the sensor on the car just has to contact with the wireless module on the headset... and the wifi range being 100m or more.. I don't think it would be a problem.. right?

  • This is the 21st century I signed up for.

  • Wow I really could use this. I've always wanted to use my brain when driving but the only controls were for my feet and hands. Instead I just use all my brain power on my cell phone and internet entertainment system. Maybe if more people used their brain to drive the roads would be safer.

  • sweet!

  • when im on the road i would just have my hands behind my head and be like "no hands" to the people on the road "they be like wth!

  • @whatnottobe lol yeah that's when you use your knees to drive.

  • fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @neantibi You're a fupa.

  • OH SNAP. I'm ready to jump on this bandwagon. A job well done to everyone involved with the project. May the Force be with you!

  • Aber wehe wenn man kurz abgelenkt wird!

  • Super ! Beindruckend was die Informatik der FU Berlin immer wieder leistet :)

  • @axelfarias3

  • @Marniboi

    Vermutlich gegen ne Wand. :D

  • 2nd

  • nice work. keep it up!
