When I was 5, I would watch Fantasia EVERY SINGLE DAY! The tape got lost/destroyed, and we all missed it. I always liked the parts with the dinosaurs. Oddly, I am 17, and I still remember much of this. My family and I have been wishing we could find this again, but I don't think they have ever remade it.
I always found it intriguing that the beginning is very similar to the intro sequences in Star Trek The Next Generation.
And with seeing this again for the first time in 12 years I must say that their lava/volcano animation sequences were really amazing and could almost hold their own against todays modern computer graphics. Indeed some amazing 2D animation in this.
I love The Rite of Spring. When I was 10, I went with my mom to hear the Minnesota Orchestra performing this. It was a birthday gift--my first concert. I had watched my parents getting ready to go to the orchestra since I was very, very young--my mom let me help her dress and pick out her jewelry and shoes. I had imagined it must be fabulous--all these grown-ups, dressed to the nines, going to hear beautiful music. I loved it--still do--but why don't people dress up anymore?
@asugirlgonenerdy Isn't it a shame? I think the marketing of the movie theatres kind of killed it a litle. Because it is such a casual environment now, given what they show on the big screen now adays, it just sort of crossed over to traditional theatre. However, I refuse to not dress up when I go to the imperial here at Saint John, even if I look out of place :) In the end, people smile and feel a little underdressed themselves.
I guess it did/does. I'm not a religious man myself but i always thought it was a mix of both. Things like the water and the earth in the extinciton move on the music. I always have the idea that god in this case is the music. Just a personal observation ofcourse
@PsychoCheese1337 i was just wondering about that myself....you would think some of the musicians in the orchestra were somewhat reluctant to take part in a way hah

I GET IT! so the first part gives the theory of the genesis version of how the world started, and the second part is like, darwin evolution.
dang i've just been spending my time watching the movie saying "look at the pretty colors", but i guess that's not a bad thing.

Gorgeous music, I was petrified of the volcano part with them belching out fire and rocks and finally blowing their tops.
Best Disney thing ever.

Man, you gotta really know the music well to animate this!

I wonder if this pissed off anyone. The whole notion of a scientific beginning to earth rather than a religious one. I'm sure it did (and does).

Fantasia is like the Mona Lisa or the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel of Animated Feature Films

@Aelkamal
There is. Look up Night on Bald Mountain, and Fantasia should be a result.
