Loved this track as a kid. Still makes my hair stand on end - the harmonies in that chorus! There is something anthematic about it. RIP Matt. Sorry, there's a lump in my throat...
man ive listened to this song 30 times already tonight and dont want to turn it off , how i miss the 80's, Matt you were a ledgend, miss ya music mate
Oh,I loved you so much,Matt...Why didn't you take the offer of Production..You may have still been with us now..This sends me into tears, and I don't cry easily...What a waste of incredible talent..Rest In Peace now..Your family would still Miss you so very much..<3..XXX
@nzoz1980 Well that should be easy enough. I am Armin and this is one of my channels and thought I may as well upload the song I requested. Considering some of the common, boring requests that Rage play - I still think I have the best request they have played so far. I just couldn't believe that Rage actually had the clip.
@aussie80s ha ha, great to hear from you and thanks for adding me to your facebook friendlist! I'm amazed 'rage' has the clip too... .fingers crossed I get some treasures on my nzoz channels soon!
@Kylie9299 He had the follow up "All that stuff (winds me up)" also off the album 'As little as a look'. Not sure if it charted but 2MMM here in Sydney played it a lot. 2MMM, although not as big as they were in the 80s, did and still do support Aussie artists.
One of their worst productions perhaps insisted upon by dodgy record company executives of the time forcing the might of this mighty rock band and the hand of this amazing writer... Matt Moffit. This song tells nothing about the pure rock energy of Matt Finish at their peak in the 80's. One week I saw them 3 times.
I hear this regularly on FM104 MMM during the cold 30 from 1986. When it came out it was one of the most played songs that year on FM104 (the best FM station in Australia in the 1980s). The CD is impossible to find now (I have a couple) and is well worth searching for at markets and secondhand CD stores.
@mar77iay Yes the Cold Thirty was a great idea from MMM (here in Sydney...as well....if you are from another town) and they were definately the best in the 80s. In Sydney (assuming you may have been interstate) we had Doug Mulray, Club Veg, just to name a few. In 1990, at one stage in the ratings they were number one all day/night. Then 2Day came along with their rap music format in 1991 and f**ked up Sydney Radio. RIP MMM (these days a very small shadow) and it's support of home grown artists.
This song is now available on a recently released compilation called COUNTING THE BEAT - AUSTRALIAN POP OF THE 80'S. It's a 2 CD set containing a lot of gems from back in the good old days.Sounds like a lot of them have been remastered & cleaned up. I found some info on the JB HIFI website or just google counting the beat various artists.
We recorded this in London & Brussels in 1995. It was -6, we had no heating or hot water at our Soho Square flat, so Matt had a cold when he sang it. It's Peter Glennister's song, although Matt shares credit. Nicky Graham produced, his next project was Bros. It was their album really, not ours. Matt was a wonderful singer of conviction if he believed in the music, but they convinced him this would be a hit. It was his last release on a major label and I’m very sad to see it here. John Prior.
@mattdontfinish Well according to my chart book it did make the top 30 so it was a minor hit at least. Anyway what brought me here was the fact i just heard it on the digital radio station Aussie and i thought what a great song.
@mattdontfinish yeah it seems a bit stylised must be frustrating to have to go along with Producers calling the shots. Anyway if its any consolation Im not a muso, and I'm happy to be able to share and enjoy the musical legacy of Matt Finish. Thanks Lea :)
@mattdontfinish hi john im steve, i was and am still a huge fan of matt and u as a drummer, and matt finish, great band, and what a rocking drummer you are, just great songs with the band and matts solo stuff, what a loss, to lose matt so young, tragic, im trying desperatly to get a copy of as little as a look, if u can help me id be so greatful , cheers mate,,
@mattdontfinish - it was impossible to fill your boots in Matt Finish, had the honour of supporting you guys over 2 nights at the Playroom about 83, it was New Years Eve if my scattered mind recalls correctly. You and Clifford Hoad . . the 2 most under rated drummers in the land !!! Your patterns still mess me up now . . that freakshow magic vanishing snare . . . cheers John Prior, you were part of something very special !!!
Great teenage memories of the 80's. It still amazes me that a song can take you right back to a time and place so long ago. One of the most underrated songs. Brilliant!!!
matt it has been 7 years mate since you have passed, but you are not forgotten,we still play your music and still love it,argueally the 80s" were the best and just like this era you are sadly missed.
This song is now available on a recently released compilation called COUNTING THE BEAT - AUSTRALIAN POP OF THE 80'S. It's a 2 CD set containing a lot of gems from back in the good old days.Sounds like a lot of them have been remastered & cleaned up.
I have it on good authority that poor old Matt was a little "up himself" and believed his own publicity. But "Short Note" is STILL my favourite Aussie song. This one isnt bad either
@Boldshane In point of fact Matt was a very gentle and humble soul on his best days. Like many talented people he had his other moments, but remember this was the '80s and he was the front man of a very popular band in the day. It wasn't just the people on the stage that had dark moments from that era either. Your 'good authority might like to look in the mirror from time to time like the rest of us. ;)
thanks so much for posting this. i was looking for this a number of months ago, before you posted it. And because i couldn't find it i went searching the internet & that's when i sadly learnt he died a number of years ago. i loved this song when it came out & it's still just as good.
If you are looking for some of Matt Finish older albums then the only way you can purchase them now a days is through John Prior. Contact him on face book.
Contact John Prior on facebook and he might be able to help you out with some of the older Matt Finish Music. But I don't think he has As Little As A Look. But he does have some of the Original Old Matt Finish Word of Mouth ETC. But you can't buy from the music stores because of legal reasons.
matt only the good die young, thats because you where good mate, its sad that you are no longer walking the planet, cut short before making a big impact once again sadly missed,
this guy could and should of been right up with the likes of marc hunter from dragon, who he sounded like, but was happy just playing local gigs were he kept away from media and television/radio, that made him infamous, then to be cut short at the age of 46.of unknown death, mate you will be sadly missed by your followers.
Thanks for posting. What a great guy and brilliant artist he was and so sad we lost Matt way too soon. We used to play Matt Finish on the way to our Gigs all the time to get pumped for our performances, we all loved his music. RIP Matt you live on in your music. Thanks for your originality no-one can ever take your place. God Bless Matt Moffit...
Thanks for posting. I got distracted this morning and forgot to turn the TV on. When I did, I had missed it by two songs (Land Down Under was playing) and I cursed myself!!!!
What sweet memories came back when I heard this song ;-)
