The little window was open. Could Mary Magdelene have escaped out the window? They found a closet with an open window, some rubble and a bag of shrine votive candles. Well, whoopee doo! The mystery of Rennes le Chateau solved at last.

This is quite impressing to ´discover´ a hidden room with an open window. The blue plastic trash bag behind the candles spoiles the impression of something ´hidden´to. The room, is definetly not unknown, and if the dark part in the corner should be a secret tunnel, so why is it not closed? Or is it an open secret? ;-)

It appears that the entrance to more rooms had been walled-up when Burgess shot there in 2006/7. However, his guide insisted as well that he was the first in centuries to see the room beyond the false door, the guide even acted in great awe upon seeing the first room beyond the false door.

Hey that was the supposed tunnel to the crypts in the 2008 movie Bloodline. But this didn't have the cheesy mood music! Too bad you coudn't take a peek under the church and film it...

This "secret"room is visible from the outside of the church - between the church and the graveyard. It is also mentioned in Jean-Luc's book - guide to renne le chateau. However, it is interesting how you gained access to this room without being discovered as the church is constantly under video survaillance
