It's strange that the first person I even mention this to has the answer right in front of me. So we have all kinds of people involved here - Paganini, Vai, Kanengiser, you. - Awesome! Anyhow, I always wondered if Vai was well-versed in this classical style of guitar playing, with the pickless finger-picking 'n' all. Maybe not then. Thanks desktopmetronome.

Well that's a question that I wonder about too. I mean if Vai could play some classical guitar.

And my conclusion is,based on his psychology and aproach to whole guitar playing thing,that it would be very strange if he couldn't play perfectly at least 10-20 classical guitar standards such as 'asturias','recuerdos de la alhambra' etc...

So I have no doubt that he is more than able to perform this piece as well.

I'd like to see him play something from this realm of music

Oh,it's not like that...Now you should feel like playing even more.If I could play it ,everyone can believe me...There are tabs in the video info,learn,memorize,and when ever you have 15min off, practice...slowly at first ,of course, slowly like one tone per second
