OK here is the entire answer to this debacle: the wind turbine did NOT get hit by something, the blade broke off due to "material fatigue" or fractures of the materials holding the blade in place, which in this case, caused a blade to come loose and break away from the rest, hitting the other blade on the way down. And why there was no "third blade", that's because the manufacturers took it away before the media got there. Score 1 for science and reasoning, and 0 for idiot reporters once again.

That's what the comentator sais. The founder of the company says that they took a look at the damaged parts and send them somewhere for further investigation. No mentioning of a missing part. I think it was just strong wind that night, one blade came off and collided with the fast moving second blade. If one blade really is missing - so what? Some farmer might have removed it with his tractor for keeping it as a souvenir.

But your scenario is most likely what happened... there was a video a wihle back where the mechanism to keep the blades moving slow broke and it spun so fast a blade hit the pillar, but there's no evidence of that here, so it must be blade-on-blade after one got loose.
