AHHH MAN ME AND MY BUDDIES WENT TO CASTAIC AND WE COUGHT LIKE 14 LARGMOUTH BASS ON LIVE SHAD THEY WERE EVEN BITHING THE DEAD ONES BUT WE JUST HAD TO DANCE THE DEAD SHAD so the bass will hit it. I think FOR A BEGINNER, THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO START AT CASTAIC LAKE.

i came back from castaic lake yesterday .. and me and my boyz rented a boat there it was a blast .. but we fish from shore and boat we was there till it close from 12p.m to 8p.m and we dident caught none well maybe 1 striper which was only not even a pound.. but we had alot of bite and we hooked alot like about 20 time diffent spot but our line rip so many time .. and what size hook did you use and number line you use .. iam planninh goin agin this friday were it not to many boat there .. .

If you've ever tried fishing live shad from shore, you'll realize that you cannot drag the aerated 5 gallon bucket across 100 yards of rocks everytime you move to a new spot. So, you must run across the rocks with a live shad in your hand, without having it die on you.

That is what having a good drag on your reel is for. If you can catch a 9# striper on 4# test without any problems, anything is doable on light line.

YOU SHOULD ALLWAYS USE LIGHT LINE IF YOU WANT TO CATCH LARGEMOUTH BASS. AND I USE VERY LIGHT ACTION ROD JUST BECAUSE THE LARGEMOUTH BASS DONT FEEL YOUR ROD AND YOU FEEL THE FISH RIGHT AWAY. I USE 8 POUND TEST LINE WHEN I FISH for bass.

Fly lined...I prefer not to use any weight, especially when the fish are surfacing. A 2 to 3 inch shad should be easy to cast on a spinning rig using 6 pound test.
