Mr. Cully. Thanks so much for the 5 stroke around the set. I could never figure out how he did it. I could hear the sound, but I could not figure out the move.
There's another one where he used to play some kind of para-diddle with the Floor Tom, Snare and Bass drum. Those three drums, creating a real cool double bass sound, only it obviously wasn't a double bass.
Beleive me they can, i am a rock drummer heavly influenced by Rich piace and palmer, and by the way i was playing most of these licks at the age of 16
This is fantastic. I agree with everybody who is having the breath knocked out of them by the incredible sound of his drum kit. I so wish I had the patience to learn more about tuning.
It's the whole mechanic vs. average automobile user thing though. You don't have to be able to tune up an engine to be able to drive to work.
@Beauxdeauxfinglok Yeah tuning drums is one of the major reasons I stopped playing. My hands hurted way too fucking much after tuning drums let alone spending an hour just doing it. With guitar, just move the pegs lol. I always wanted to play guitar for the longest time anyway but I might get new heads over the summer... Or buy an electronic set.
This mans videos are terrific! He truly understands what made Buddy's playing seem magical. It's FREE, everyone should get one. Plenty of information that no one else is offering.
Those drums sound incredible! Not necessarily what he's playing per se (although its awesome too) I am talking about the tone of the drums themselves. Incredible!!!
Mr Cully Love your set. Its sounds great. Classic slingerland. Your talent for teaching us to properly play buddy rich`s style is superb. Do you have a video of this lesson and more on DVD.
I am 53 years old, drumming for over 30 years and must say, you are truly inspiring as a teacher and a player. As I get older the more I appreciate the application of skills. I have played professionally through the 80's and drummers like you are, well... it is fantastic to have you show it is done. Watching your video's on the net, I find amazing. You are a living legend and a great tribute for jazz and drumming.
Thanks, DC! You’re a generous cat.
