easter eggs in games are just random things that are usually have nothing to do with the game itself (for example in gears of war 2 you can find a toaster and make toast)

other things might include funny random things to characters (so in f.e.a.r you can make a certain npc dance and kill him)

another version is a cameo appearance, this is someone from another game who make a brief appearance in the game (so super mario rpg, you can find link later in the game)
