Fortunately it is not the usual propaganda shit, but a little bit more realistic, roughly historical correct and does not degenerate in the somekind obligatory glorification of the Americans.
Just one thing: If they produce such films one could expect that they are able to utter the name of the city correctly ;D
Our Communist party gave americans leave to make this movie in CZ because of a great deal of american dollars. No hate, no fight agains capitalism, no prejudices against american slavers. Thats funny
This movie was filmed in Czechoslovakia and just barely got finished. When the Soviet Army invaded the country the movie crew had to blow outta Dodge PDQ.
Another great movie. Shows off the fine skill of the American GIs as opposed to the clearly inferior German forces. The Germans must have been mad to take on the finest army the world had ever seen.
The finest Army the world had ever seen was the German army of 1940! At the outbreak of WW2 every other army in the world was in a very poor antiquated state. At the time this film is set the Germans were in disarray and in full retreat from the overwhelming advance of the Red Army and the allies.
Anders. Disagree. The finest army that the world had ever seen fought is the United States marines that fought at Guadalcanal. They beat the second finest army in the world, the Imperial Japanese Army which destroyed the Australian Army in Singapore. The most famous units were Easy Company at the Battle of Biastogne and the Sioux Indians at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
I dont see no reason why the marines at Guadalcanal were any better than any other unit. If we're talking of famous units, why not D Company Ox & Bucks light infantry or 2nd Battalion the Paras 1st Airbourne? They're only famous cos they've had their exploits published so much, if BoB had never been made I bet they'd stay relatively unknown.
Anders. Easy Company has always been famous. My relative met their soliders once. They were famous. He also met a Soviet leader. Who is more famous - the Soviet leader or the leader of Easy Company? The Soviet had power of life and death. He will be forgotten. Dick Winters will never be forgotten.
If there were no books about them or the tv series I doubt if they would have been as widely known by the public as now. I'd never heard of them till the TV series.
Anders. Easy Company was the best crack unit of the war. It was famous before the Band of Brothers series. Stephen Ambrose tracked the greatest heroes of WW2 and bought them out so that young people today will know. He also mentions my relative in his book. That's why I now know that my relative actually was honoed to meet the men of Easy Company!! This must have been the highlight of his career.
Not famous to the masses though, vast majority of people had never heard of them until BOB, dispite the book. Best crack unit? Tell the SAS that, or the Commandos or the US Rangers. I don't give a monkeys toss about your relative either, so stop blowing your familys trumpet.
I am proud of what my relative did. He was thanked by the Dutch. Back to Easy Company. You have to be educated that they were one of the best if not the best in the war.
They were just one Infantry Company, just one of 1000's, 150 men out of over 3,500,000 allied soldiers. They weren't fucking super humans, just good soldiers. I have to be educated about what they did? Any other company would have done the damn same. Alot of companies, (not just allied) have done substantially more! What is it with you, you sound brain washed.
If you go to Remagen the'll tell you the real story. The yanks were really pleased with themselves at taking the bridge. They filled it with tanks, trucks and troops.Never miss a photo oppertunity. The bridge simply collapsed
i know a lot about wwII but when i watch a film im just looking for entertainment, good actors, good action NO ROMANCE and another thing i love their trailers are always long.
wow wish we had constructed some ramen noodles, lucky tiger caging ragin cajuns! Geaux Tigers! Prohibitions court? well, never mind, flapper. Bathtub gin most immediate says Blaze the stripper Guest Star
Filmed in 1968 in former Czechoslowakia, on the Vltava river. There´s a urban legend saying that the real purpose of coming there to film the movie was to find, dig out and safely take abroad the Nazi´s treasure of Stechovice (reputedly hidden at 1945 by german high rank officers not far from there)
The actual reason was that West Germany wouldn't allow the company to film at Remagen because of heavy shipping on the Rhine River but it wouldn't shock me if the urban legend maybe true if the treasure still has yet to be found
My cousin, Lorenz Denn was the mayor of this town! I've been to Remagen twice cause I have family there and it's a sweet little town. Email me if you'd like some pictures.
It's an OK film for its time but not as realistic as Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers.Having the Germans speaking in English detracts from the realism. The Elmer Bernstein score is certainly good. I see it stars George Segal. In the 1960s he played a lot of the roles that would be played by Tom Hanks nowadays. It would be good to do a more realistic remake of this film nowadays, able to use today's CGI effects and drawing on the changed attitudes to WW2 we have nowadays.
Nearly 40 years on and still one of the best films of WW2 made. When I visited Remagen in 1985 I was surprised to see what a good job the film makers had done of the set which looked just like the village. The score is for me the best of Bernstein and one of the best war film sound tracks ever.
Politicians sure know how to screw over civilians and use soldiers as pawns. They're the only ones who want war because they don't have to fight in it.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've never seen The Great Escape. But I did see Remagen...and I was impressed with its gritty depiction of war. I love the soundtrack, it is like the blend of a fine European waltz tune with an American western theme, and it fits perfectly.
