...the big diesel engines and their generators live on though! I was watching the History Channels', "Modern Marvels" doin' a show dedicated to train-engine production from build to scrapping...at least most of the prime-movers go on to re-building & re-application in everything from electrical generation to marine-power...they even keep the original manufacturing-tags on the re-used power...
the rants regarding the destruction of a not all that popular locomotive.. I mean, "rising up"? Really? Luckily for most of us, some are not in the gun business !!
It's a train piece. Obviously to make one reflect..not to start a revolution for cryin' out loud. People, we can't save everything.
neither does the uk and both of us should be; we have ruined our industry with consumerism and greed, the more we buy from chine, the less we can make ourselves so then we become more relient on china and so on. and it will come crashing down if anything happens to chinas industry its like we r being set up for failure- maybe thats the idea?
who is the real enemy, osama bin laden or the people responcible for this predicament? and is it treason?
I think its part of a master plan to weaken the people along with high fuel and food prices all to keep us down and stop us mobilising against a corrupt regime and to stop us being able to be independant to force the new world order upon us and eventually that nwo will need a massive die off of people.
I hope they got those 12-244Ds out of there, and the genereators, to repower dead museum RS-3s and FAs. That's about all these turkeys are worth, anyway. Friction bearings, weak "adjustable" trucks...a waste of taxpayer money from day one. Typical Pentagon "planning" of the '50s..."lets have a ground war and take over their railroads!" Durrrr....we already did that in WW II, didn't work then, won't work anytime in the future.
The Alco RSX-4 (Actually they're GE MRS-1) locomotives were a waste from day one. They cost a FORTUNE to build new and most were immediately stored. By the time the military started selling them off, they were so obsolete they had to be given away.
Today, the problem is they have solid (friction) bearings which aren't allowed on most railroads any more. The cost to convert to modern sealed roller bearings is about $10,000 per axle, 6 axles, PLENTY of more modern locomotives out there cheaper!
Yup sad! 80% of the USA scrap goes over seas! It cost too much to mine new copper and steel ore etc in the good ol USA! And if the cost did not kill us steel mills and mines the E.P.A. finished them off!! Sad Sad Sad but true!! the is not a enviroment protction agency in most of the countrys over there they can still run mines & mills over there with out all the extra fees permits taxes high labor rates laws etc. USA too manny laws and license's needed now days we passed so manny laws! ;-(
wow... such a loss, i beleave, seeing as how there were only about 75 of these ever built. i saw the prime mover looking as if it was being put on a flat bed truck, i was wondering if any of the parts were saved of not.

FUCK THE CHINKS!! They have enough shit over there. What happened to the good ol US?? Nothing is quality anymore but rather quantity. I hate this.
speediracer4 1 year ago 9
@speediracer4 Shit we in the USA make only 40% of our food & 6% of our own clothing!?! SAD!! Most of the us steal mills are long gone too!
AGDemo 1 year ago
Maybe a silly question, but why is the scrap going to China?
megatwingo 1 year ago
@megatwingo Because they need tanks & bullets to fire at us! Hehehe ;-) j/k thats ware the scrap broker sold the steel to. :-(
AGDemo 1 year ago
@AGDemo
Remarkable, that it earns enough money to ship the scrap over this distance to China.
One should think, that they have enough scrap in their direct neighbor countries.
