  • E.M. Forster understood human nature very well ( ignore my la

  • @myViewQueens Are you okay?

  • E.M. Forster unstood hip human nature very well.

  • I love when the teacher says "ten years to the day I shall invite u and ur wife to dine me" and indeed in the movie more than ten years later the teacher sees Maurice and Alec together in the Museum.

  • My question is when, oh when, are we going to get a 1080p bluray transfer with the deleted scenes cleaned up/re-integrated? This film's cinematography just BEGS for it.

  • NICE NAME

  • @vTRlGGERx yes exactly!!!!!!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting this movie! Sipho, of blessed memory, and I were a mixed-race couple in the darkest days of apartheid South Africa, and this movie really helped us cope with the horror of what was going on all around us.... and what was done to us as a gay couple. He especially loved the closing scenes of the movie.

  • haha he's good at drawing. but what a weird way of explaining it

  • My favorite romantic movie of all time! Rupert Graves is not only adorable in this film but gives an honest & down to earth performance as Alec. He "almost" steals the film..... Hugh Grant did an amazing job of going from a likable chap to a despicable cad. But the "stand out" performance is that of James Wilby in the title role. What an AMAZING actor. There are times where he acts only with his eyes & you can read what is going on inside his mind! He is also stunningly beautiful !!!

  • @jimsed1964 Yes, his acting in this movie was simply .... tops.

  • @jimsed1964 Agreed. I love how Rupert is always touchy-feely in his scenes...brings an incredible tenderness to Alec. And Wilby's eyes, yes....when Maurice looks away from Clive when they are picnicking in the glade...or the look in his eyes as he gently closes them in his final scene...speaks volumes. Some incredibly sad moments and some incredibly passionate and romantic moments as we follow Maurice's life.

  • @skyblazer7 Dear me! I cannot get enough of this movie! It really is SO well done, and the acting is superlative. I was really pleased to discover the epilogue to the book in which Alec and Morris end up as woodcutters together.

  • i got the movie today!!!

AAARRGGHHH THANK YOU GOD FOR GAY LOVE..

  • @Dumbledorathexplora LOL, Yes, there seems to be a certain pleasing, undefinable something about gay love that seems to be absent from straight love. I used sometimes to look down at my guy's face early in the morning, as he lay asleep next to me, and mouth a silent "Thank You!".

  • @mabhekaphansi yes. you are absolutely right. because we have to fight for it, because we have to overcome such odds to love. :)

  • @ibrahimdesign So true! But the fight is worth it.

  • What a great movie. It's now one of my all time favorites. Although I immediately fell in love with the character of Alec Scudder upon my first viewing of this wonderful film (and also began my obsession with the amazing and gorgeous Rupert Graves!), James Wilby absolutely astounds as Maurice. I've come to love him just as much. I love to watch his transformation throughout the course of the film. By the end, in Clive's garden, the joy he's found has made him almost luminous.

  • @Katrinawitch I agree. James Wilby is stunning in this film. He gave an amazing performance.

  • @Katrinawitch The joy .... oh yes, you are right, he seems to glow.

  • Any other great gay movies out there? But NOT with a sad ending, the ending was good, but I did wish Maurice and Clive ended together.

  • @FernandoLety In the book (a footnote thereto, actually) they end up together as woodcutters. I WISH this could have been portrayed in the movie.

  • @mabhekaphansi Wait in the book Maurice and Clive end up together?

  • @FernandoLety Yes, they do end up together working as woodcutters. sadly Sipho died in 1993 in a political killing, but our time together (nearly ten years)was made all the more joyous because of the inspiration this movie gave us.

  • @FernandoLety Okay Fernando, let me reply more fully: in an unpublished epilogue, Maurice's sister Kitty finds maurice working several years later as a woodcutter with Alec. She DOES NOT APPROVE! The whole thing ends with Alec and Morris, in each other's arms, deciding to move elswewhere to avoid discovery of their love fr each other and subsequent persecution. Altogether a lovely ending for a wonderfgul novel.

  • @mabhekaphansi I do wish CLIVE and Maurice ended up together, but in the end it was a happy ending, I will read the book, thanks!

  • @FernandoLety Hi Fernando, yes, but I incorrectly read your initial post! Sorry! But it would have been great for Clive and Maurice to have walked off into the sunset together. Forster, I suspect, wanted a bit of "rough" in the book, but, nonetheless, Alec is a sweet and thoroughly genuine character, and is absolutely honest about his sexuality.

  • @mabhekaphansi Yes indeed, it took me a second time watching the movie to realize how tender Alec is and he is CUTE!

  • Akward.

  • Lord, this reminds me of the talk my Mom had with me when I was about 12. I'd had the fundamental talk years before, (which had convinced me that sex was only for the depraved) but having her talk with me about my possible feelings of sexual excitement, is an hour of my life that I'll never get back. It's any wonder that ANY of us turn out normal as our parents and other adults help us navigate through burgeoning sexuality.

  • @suemorr1970jamaica Define normal :P

  • @MojoAlien Oh that's easy. At ease with who you are is your normal. My normal is at ease with who I am and okay with everyone else. As a parent myself, I know that I'll do something to permanently scar my child, much as my mother did with me and her little sex talk. So "normal" my dear is relative.

  • WAGEENA! THUS!

  • This is a great movie, whether you are gay or not. I may be bisexual, but I'm not too into campy or silly movies.

  • @fsuarez20051 You don't have to be "into campy or silly movies" to be gay. Being gay or bisexual is just about who your attracted to. Not how you act and the stereotypes you may or may not coform to. Hope i helped :l if i didn't and its not what you ment then sorry.

  • I never had The Talk with my parents. Maybe it's a Swedish things that they just let us find out for ourselves..? But we are bombarded in school about puberty, sex and proper protection, one of my teachers even thought us how to put condoms on with our mouth, and what flavoured lube tasted like.. and how to use that for uh, things.. O///////O DAMN YOU TEACHER!!! Will never get that out of my head... O/////////O

  • @UnbelivableRealistic Ha. You were lucky. Here in Arizona we were taught abstinence only.

  • I'm not sure what a weegeena is.

  • I've read the book and now I'm gonna watch the movie *excited*

  • risley u deck

  • HAHAHAHA "and he puts his MEMBRUM URILIS into her VAGEENA....laaabia majora minora, seminiforous toobules, voooolvaa"

most hilariously awkward and technical sex talk ever. WIN.

  • How sad that this kind of english is all but gone even the young royals talks like som BBC presenter on crack ;((

  • at first, i thought the doctor was grooming him

and i was all "does anyone notice this old man is a pedophile?"

  • such a waste that i just turned 26, and i just discovered this film ;-) truly in depth and realistic... :) now i understand that this world is not all about lady gaga or obama :) hmmmm

  • i wish they had english subs.... its hard to understand british accent(not 2 a very great extend but still...)though i do find it classy n sexy....lol... but eng subs with it would be seriousl;y nice.. right now all i can do is put on d headphones n hear it as thats d only way i can understand british acent.....

  • @Lee6273 i know :) and im trying to grasp every word and understand it... knowing that im asian LOL

  • @patroclus28 lol.... me too..m an asian.... hhehe

  • @Lee6273 hahaha i never thought of that dumb me .. where from lee?

  • @patroclus28 india... but the north east part of india so we dont look indians...lol... u can think of us like d hawaiins of america... i mean we are mongolian looking..lol... but here in india english is d 2nd official language u see..so i shoulnt have problem understnd it but british acccent is kinda 2 fashionable !! lol but its rly sexy though~~lol

  • i thought this was ten times better than the book. of course, i read it a while ago...

  • omfg james wilby's voice

  • Yes, thanks!

  • What does Scudder say as he kisses his partner's ear...?" We don't ever have to be part? It's over"........

Thank you, xaebrya, for letting us see this gem......(and yes, Scudder has a fine ass..)

  • @outoftunefiddler he says 'now we shant never be parted'

  • @jhr459 thankkkkkkkkkkks.

  • that drawing was really good

  • well i don't mind havin sex talks but my best friend who happens to be gay, used to plan ahead to ditch class whenever he had a sex talk like seriously they were pretty bad, plus it didn't help tht we had sum ignorant homophobics in the class, as soon as the teacher would say anything about the say sex sleeping together or in a relation the hole class would be like EEWWW!!! and im thinking to myself i wonder how many of u aren't straight?

  • Thank you for posting this. The haunting score, the excellent cast, Hugh Grant, and James Wilby, those wonderful accents, England. Thank you again for bringing us this timeless classic!.

  • There was Another Country (1984) and Maurice (1987). I saw both

and I'm a woman, but the movies are great. There was Carrigton later too. Different, but, I saw too.

  • irrelevant though interesting fact: young maurice is played by orlando wells, who was playing the role of Alex in Channel 4's As If, great series. and a small world.

  • this Nolan is just sick...

  • love the movie thank you for uploading this and make some more ,,please

  • One of the greatest films PERIOD.

  • @NolanRogers2 : How narrow minded can you be Nolan? This film is about one person, not all of England. As for "Cream Puffs", we're tougher than you think. Gay men and women are just as capable as anyone. I'm sure there were plenty of "Poofs" in the trenches and in the officers pub during WW II, and they deserve your respect as much as anyone who fought in that war. I'm sure that if England's leaders during WW II all shared your narrow-minded ideals, England would gone NAZI.....

  • @Tubewatcher1969

You are the narrow minded one. If everyone does not buy in to your sex up the arse is OK then you label them Nazis. Whatever happened to freedom of thought?

So what if I think for myself and decide that I do not want to be a Sodomite that means I am wrong? So much for "Tolerance".

If you want to promote Queers, AIDS, gay marriage, etc. then do it and leave me to disagree.

  • @NolanRogers2

Promote AIDS??? How stupid can you get?

  • @NolanRogers2 Why did you even come to this video? I can only surmise that you're either 1. A truly hateful person who intentionally seeks out gay videos to spew hatred, or 2. A self-loathing gay person yourself, and this is a cry for help. I just don't understand why people who don't like homosexuality or homosexuals aren't contented to just avoid all things gay, and let others live their lives. Please explain what motivates your actions! I am truly curious.

  • @Tubewatcher1969 Well, let us NEVER forget our fellow cream puff that saved the world from Nazi domination early in WW2..... Alan Turing.

  • @NolanRogers2 think gay men wouldn't have been able to fight in the World Wars, do you? Care to account for men such as Siegfried Sassoon (MC winner and VC nominated) and Wilfred Owen? Or any number of gay men, and indeed women, who have fought for their country with more bravery than the majority of straight individuals I know ever could have. Such homophobic nonesense has no place in what is supposed to be an 'enlightened' society

  • Such a beautiful film. The second half of the 80s was a very good time for truly good cinema.

  • Woot! I've wanted to see this movie for a long time and now I found out it's in youtube. I'm so happy <3 thanks!

  • Though this Merchant Ivory masterpiece doesn't highlight her tallents so

well, Judy Parfitt who plays Clives' mother, is a remarkable actress! I first

saw her as a kid in the early 80's in the BBC miniseries "The Jewel In The

Crown". Later in the 90's, I was stunned by her performance as "Vera Donovan"

in "Delores Claiborne". In "Claibourn", she played opposite Kathy Bates. Her

character was this uptight Marthas' Vinyard ,"Rich Bitch", who the viewing

    audience end up loving!

    Remarkable!

  • This is great, I just finished reading the book and hoped that the movie would be here.

    Thanks so much!

  • great novel, great filmmaking, great cast, great script, great performances, great score etc. wonderful. a fave. underrated.

  • I love SImon Callow. He's such a fop! He could explain the most hideous thing and still it would sound quite proper. I love this movie. There are so many famous actours out there who are not recognized for their greatest and most under publicized early movies. This one has a great cast! And the subject is one that needs to be portrayed on-screen more often. Being gay wasn't always as clearly defined as it is now which is esp. why we need to teach our new generation our history.

  • @BreezesofConey

I think you're spot on about Callow. He turned in some remarkable

performances for Merchant Ivory, his characters always so, "Uppercrusty".

As a kid in the early 80's I first saw him in"Amadeus" then the jovial,"Merry

Andrew" typy gay character that he played in "Four Weddings And A Funeral",

in the mid 90's I believe. He was one of the earliest actors to come out

publically in the U.K. I've heard that his presence on stage is unforgetable,

and would love to see him live

  • @blainebill39 Amadeus was the first role I ever saw him in as well though I was in my late 20's at the time. Shamefully, I ought to know he is gay but somehow that slipped my attention as well. All the more to him then though I am glad I am just now knowing this, as my wonderful impression of his talent thus far has been pure and uninfluenced by the fact. He was in Bedrooms and Hallways in the late 90s w/ Jennifer Ehle who was in WIlde w/ Judy Parfitt lol.

  • As for Jennifer Ehle,

To have played "Lizzy" opposite Colin Firth in the six hour BBC production

of "Pride And Prejudice", to something as fresh as this. What can one say,

it must be in the blood of the daughter of the great Julie Cristie!

Thank you for sharing your impressions with me!

    Sincerely,

    Blaine

  • @BreezesofConey

I too enjoyed "Bedrooms And Hallways", especially for its' incredible

ensemble cast! Harriot Walter, who plays the wife of Callows' character,

is another superb actor That dream sequence that parodied all the Jane

Austin screen adaptations! I'll paraphrase Walters' line," Mr. Darcy can be

somewhat haughty, but one must admire his penetration. Most of the players

in that scene were actually in some of those Austin film adaptations!

  • Thanks so much for uploading! This is a great movie I've been wanting to watch. I was getting shivers because I was so excited to watch this!!!

I recommend this movie to anyone who haven't watched this.

  • I love the music...

  • Ahahaha! Wagina! Anyway, that boy looked a little scarred after the sex talk... O.o

  • That guy at the beginning is just plain freaky.

  • If I got this sex talk I'd die, I'd just die =|

  • this movie is excellent ill give it 10 out of 10

  • The book is good, but it can't touch the movie!

Also, it was written in 1913-1914, not 1910.

  • such a beautiful story..

  • The best of all of the Merchant Ivory products (and *none* are too shabby!). I'm glad you posted this excellent film.

  • Lol my dad was totally drunk when he gave me the sex talk

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I probably never would have seen it otherwise. I just finished the book and loved it!

  • This is my all time favourite movie, the only movie that I think is perfect in every way. I have the 2 disc DVD, which is amazing quality, so I don't have to rely on Youtube to see it; but I think you've made a lot of people very happy who could never have seen this cinematic masterpiece without all your effort. Well done!

  • omg.. rofl...

  • THE BOOK - is amazing...although written in 1910... it helped a small town Cdn guy like myself come out in 1995...read it in a night, and cried and became determined to live life on my own terms, not family, expectations, church, etc... love E M Forster

  • Oy vey. The grandaddy of all awkward Victorian Facts Of Life Talks! Simon Callow's just adorable...and he forgot to rub out his naughty pictures! "Come, Victoria!"

  • they should do an update of this movie...it would be good, i think

...yeah and that random sex talk? wtf...i would have ran away.

  • lol, the start of buffets.

  • This little boy is brave. If I had recieved a sex talk like this I doubt I would have turned out gay or straight..I would have been the crazy spinster with the 1000 cats and cans of tuna. It would have frightened me at that age.

  • lmao!

  • : )

  • @12astile I KNOW LMAO...the book is good too

  • nytimes(.)com

  • @Sarcastic07 He's supposed to be 14, that's what age he is in the novel.

  • lol at the random sex explanation

  • @Sharebyakuya u dont like the explanation with the "vageena" lol I love how he says Vagina

  • i am falling in love with this movie... :(((

  • One of the best novels I have ever read... Forster was a GENIUS! I love the movie too! :) His characters are so relatable and human.

  • Is the book really good? I was thinking of reading it. Can you tell me a bit abouot it?

  • @inuyasha5132 it's not REALLY good, but it's fair. The book does happen to have a happy ending, which is always nice. (and I enjoy how Maurice abandons the guy who abandoned him first) ummm, sorry, I read it a while ago, so I don't remember many details. Let me say this though: it's worth reading, but not worth buying a copy of.

  • @inuyasha5132 its very similar to the film funnily enough, same things happen, same characters, its quite shocking someone doesn't sue for copyright infringement

    /sarcasm.

  • @inuyasha5132 I really really liked this book. I would suggest reading it. It's about love and class divisions basically. Only a gay version of those things. The movie is veeeerrrryyyy similar to the book.

  • @inuyasha5132

The book was good, but the movie is BRILLIANT. There are a few things in the book's story that are plain stupid, that were made far better in the movie (I refer particularly to Clive's 'conversion' into a str8 guy.)

Its worth reading to compare, but I think the movie is a vast improvement over the book. (To be fair, the book was written in 1910, so its forgivable in its silly plot lines.)

  • 字幕欲しいです・・・

  • wow!

    the quality is so greaT!

    thx so much!

    =D

  • That poor, poor boy...

  • I can tell that at the moment that man drew that picture he ruined sex for that little boy

  • the music of the opening titles usually makes me shiver - so moving

  • I love Maurice, cus he is brave and handsome, he dares to be himself under such conservative social environment, why Huge grant always pretends to be a cocky guy? he has feelings on Maurice, the end is kinda sad, I have learned from this movie that just be yourself and dare to love.....

  • This is a wonderful movie.

    Thank you.

  • One of the best novels....just a great film!

  • WOOT..CANT WAIT TO WATCH ^^

I just got done looking at brokeback mountain...So I WANT MORE XD

  • Thank you so much.

This film is great for women too. Men are almost never shown to be loving, vulnerable and beautiful....

  • I'm a woman, and I think this movie is awesome.

  • @lisambofoh I watched this last night and the ending was sort of boring.

  • Lmfao! The explaining sex part is so hilariouss

  • This is an awesome movie, one of my favorite.

  • Hi !

I'm Sorry but I search this film french or vostfr :/ Thank You and Good Luck

  • well this is the problem, they teach you how to fuck a girl, but they never tell you that maybe you wont like doing it. I remember, I was 8 when Ive realised I will never be like my father, because I would never kiss a girl. from that day on, I could never look up to them. Ive discovered that they are not my role models. and as I grow in to a teenager, this distance grow bigger. I wish I could have had gay parents, that could show me, what is the love between two men.

  • The only despicable thing here, are you Mr. asmodeus585

  • @eldadevata you hit the issue fully. the problem is the total lack of emotional models, especially when it is children, we'll save you a lot of unnecessary distress and anxiety problems. the discourse that the teacher tells maurice , is what you all say is amazing how I identified from the first scene . and the first kiss?an incredible feeling of freedom in happiness!

  • @eldadevata Hey hey hey, can we keep the language under control?

  • @missypomful Nope! :)

  • @eldadevata Hmm.

  • @missypomful :):):)

  • wow, thanks so much for putting this up! i loved the book and i can't WAIT to watch this!

  • fantastic.......god i missed this film!!

  • thank you so much for posting this video. I love it sooo much.

  • I have seen this film over 100 times !! Really. One of the best films I have seen. I have it on DVD en play it often.

  • some how i don't think that kid will show up with a lady at the dinner that that guy promised....

  • I don't know why but I just find it hilarious to see how the man was trying to explain to little Maurice what sex is about.

  • I wonder how am I going to explain about sex to a 6 or 7 years old child?

  • Thanks for uploading it all. I had it up once before, but it was deleted.

  • Thank you very very much for the uploading! This film is just fantastic!!

  • Yay! Finally, I've been looking for this forever! Then something told me to look for it and here it is!!!

    THANKS!!

  • pepepepepepepepepeppep pines

  • OMG I can't thank you enough for uploading this. The first time I caught a couple of clips from this movie here I totally went crazy but couldn't find the whole thing. For a loooong time I kept up the search but couldn't and I even went from video store to store but still couldn't find it :(

Dont know how to thank you.:)

  • u definitely don't need to be gay to like this. i am not gay and i love this stuff. so don't feel bad about it. hugh grant is a good reason to watch this anyways.

  • You Dont Have To Be Gay To Like A Gay Film As Much As I Dont Have To Be Straight To Like A Straight Film!!! Watch It & Just Look At It As The Love Story It Is The Sexuality Is Nether Here Nor There.

  • i agree but Why All The Capitals?

  • This Latin membrum lesson is one of the most hilarious in filmography!

  • its really hard to find the full movie.thanx for uploading the movie.

  • they talk funny! lol

  • OMG! OMG! OMG! Thank you sooo much for posting this movie! Maurice is one of my all-time favourite M/I films - with powerful perfomances and a terrific and enchanting story!
