The sound is awesome! That's something I'm missing with my S4 but it's still a fun car to drive! The S4 was all I could afford though as a 28 year old 12 years ago... still have it and it's still fun to drive as a 40 year old now.

@pun1978isher Oh he tried hard indeed. You see, the 210 freeway when going North is uphill. The lotus does not have the torque to keep up with an 8 liter V10. By the way, did you know that the Lotus transmission is French made. Originally made for a car not as powerful as the Lotus.

You're looking in the wrong places!

Esprits start at about £6k for a normally aspirated Stevens shaped car, up to about £20k for late V8's with everything in between!

Just make bloody certain you get a good one to start with.

They're not *that* rare - for eg I have a 1986 Turbo - there were about 140 sold in the UK in that year alone. I also have a 1994 Lamborghini Diablo - there have only been 169 sold in the country EVER (from 1990 to 2001!)

Can someone explain why the turbo sound is so noticable? Is this always based on the size of a turbocharger? Or something else? I want to know because if i get myself a 1990 SE , or 87 HC, i want the turbo to sound as awesome as that. :). Incredible sound by the way.

It's an 04, or 03.5...it's not lowered, the 03.5 comes with a different set of shocks & springs so it sits slightly lower.

It's because the Esprit V8 has a flat-plane crankshaft. It's not like most other V8s, which are cross-plane. So a flat-plane V8 is pretty much two inline-4s on a shared crankshaft. They do sound a bit like a pair of 4-bangers running in sync, with one lagging the other by 90°.

Not really, but if you're building a high-revving race V8 engine (say, for F1) then you'll want a flat-plane crank just for the reduction in rotating mass. Problem is a flat-plane has the same balance problems as a 4-cylinder, so they only are appropriate for smaller displacement, short-stroke engines. Something like a flat-plane small-block Chevy would be unacceptably rough.

Oh, and all Ferrari V8s are flat-plane.

it's the dump valve from the turbo, the turbo creates pressure but as the throttle closes between gear changes the pressure is released, u can hear it on grand Turismo on playstation a lot, it's one of the great sounds u get get from performance cars.
