awesome. i'm doing some basic protection training with my mastiff puppy for protecting my fiancee when i'm working 12-16hr days and shes home alone. she controls his camands, and he attacks. He is a super loving dog, great with other dogs and what not but come in our house un invited and he goes nuts...and he's still a pup only 7 months old and just over 100lbs. Great dogs.
This dog was created to guard and fight so i don't see nothing wrong in this training.. it's like don't use a tank in battle use it in more peacefull ways :S
Don't badmouth show Mastiff soundness. My 235 pound champion bloodlines male, age 4 1/2, ran down a white tail in the woods last fall and had it on the ground before I managed to catch up to them and pull him off. In case of an attacker with a gun, get a concealed carry permit. That way neither the dog nor the person is at risk from a weapon. Bite training a Mastiff is a way of compensating for having a small dick imo.

Awesome dog. Finally someone found a throwback mastiff they way they use to be before the show people emasculated the breed and made them useless. A dog is more than the look and all have been bred for a purpose. If you don't have a mastiff like that then you don't have a good example of one. End of discussion. Go buy a pomeranian if you want something to sit on your lap and lick you in the face. You must be half a fag if you think this dog was not meant to do this.
everyone needs to chill out. we get big dogs to protect us, when we live in a perfect world, i'll get a toydog. until then, this mastiff is doing what mastiffs are/were supposed to do! besides, he's enjoying it! as long as he's responsibly handled in public, there should be no problem.
whoever the uploader is, that is clearly a case of an impotent wanker. All you have to show about this beautiful breed is some demented induced-by-owner behavior. You are an idiot and a complete waste of time. Too bad he didn't chew your balls, provided you got some.
Why would anyone want to try and train a mastiff like this? The Mastiff is a gentle giant that size alone would scare any invader. There is no need to make the dog aggressive also. What is wrong with these so called trainers?
I saw another picture in Ceasars training. He did something very hard to do and bit through a RayAllen suit . Too bad I can't down load the picture to show the pain the jerk was in during the attack.
@hunterr1950 The Mastiff wasn't originally a gentle giant, and any dog will be gentle if taught to be! And ya mastiff might me big but if someone has a gun, that dog will be gone within a few sec. But a bite work dog, will know how to handle someone w a gun!
@nikigurl08 The Mastiff is the most loving, laid back “big” Baby anyone would want to be owned by. They need to live with “their” people – not in outside cages like these dogs. I have been owned by both English (210 lbs) and a Neo (199 lbs) and both would protect me without having such training.
If you aren’t “MAN” enough to protect yourself from intruders then “YOU” need some basic defense training. Don’t train a mastiff to do the work for you!

@hunterr1950 Besides I never said there was anything wrong w havin an easy going loves everyone dog. But that type of dog is not right for everyone! Beside I have a little loving pomeranian and a loving little poodle mix, both love everyone they see. But my doberman protects the house, and doesn't like ppl that come to the house w/o an invitation. Yet he is great at the park and in public w ppl but he will protect me if needed be! And that jus the way I like him!
@nikigurl08 But one day I'll have a couple trained doberman and a trained mastiff! I really love the cane corso, but if the english mastiff could do protection work, than I would be interested in one. So in other words, if I have a big dog it got to protect me not jus be a couch potatoe, who's harmless!
You are training a killer. The Mastiff was never a herding dog and it is a primary attribute in shutzhund. A mastiff would not locate and then come to the handler on recall, it would be its instinct to identify the threat and remove it, by either chasing it off or killing it. The breed is too powerful to be handled (nice tree asshole). If the breed was suited to shutzhund we'd probably see a few Mastiffs as police dogs. I hope that dog snaps the tree and rips your arms off.
I've grown up with mastiff's most of my life and have never once heard of a mastiff having to be "trained" to protect. German Shepard's and other police K-9 type dogs have different instinctive responses and tend to respond better to commands as well. They also carry out their attack in a much more aggressive manner.
ive never had a mastiff but i want one... but i have 2 german shepards and they are both very protective... but they do listen to commands very well... and they are smart... like if u raise the tone in ur voice they can tell...
I'd like to have seen an effective "stand-down" command, or really anything that showed a degree of control on the part of the dog or handler here. It's just one part of a lot more training, but I can definitely see where people are getting a bad impression.
As it is, most folks will see what seems to be a lot of "work the dog up, and attack the stranger" training without the discipline and control that accompanies it.
I got the impression that it was an advert along the lines of "look how nasty we can make this big scary dog - no one will mess with you if you come to us".
Its very sad the "training" ammounted to teasing it into biting.
Maybe showing even an attack or defend command would have made it look better but from that vid I'd say its pretty poor.
The dog is tied to the tree for the decoy's safety. Its so the guy doing the agitation knows exactly how much line that dog has, so he doesn't get bit.
yes i know that. its the fact that its to a tree that makes it so funny. but if you didnt notice, the handler also has a leash on the dog. there is no way in hell that if that guy was just holding the leash without the tree reinforceing, he would be dragged around that yard garaunteed
@lcht2 A properly trained protection dog will go against its instinct and will stop when told so. If not you have a monster and not a protection dog. As well as a lawsuit waiting to happen.
They dont seem very proffesional ? i mean, the dog is tired both with a stick and to a tree.. and the dog snaps at them , if they are then they atleast are not the owners... usually this form of training is done without the dog being tired up. ive seen it done with both rottys and great danes. so dont tell me the mastiff is too big, cuz it aint if you know how to train your dog. my rotty would NEVER bite at me, nor be alowed to do so.
I agree. They look like they are just teaching this mastiff to be very aggressive. Which is what you dont want to do. They are natural guard dogs and dont need this kind of training.
actually all dogs have a natural guard instinct, some are just more prounounced than others. Every dog from a german sheperd to a poodle needs training in order to be reliable. You may have the 1 out of a million dog that picks it up like drinking water, but they are far and few between..
Spoken like someone that has never done any protection work at all..
First of all, there is a HUGE HUGE difference in a "rotty" or "great dane" and the mastiff.. No, you could not physically hold the mastiff back when he is being worked..
Secondly, I highly doubt they are the "owners" or the one's that will keep him atleast. They had the appropriate gear so one must assume "they train dogs" and a dog trainer never teaches his/her own dog in defensive work like this..
for defensive work the handler must threaten the dog's sense of well being to get that "fight or flight" drive out in the dog.. if the "owner" were to get this response out of their dog, the dog would always be on guard when around the person.
I have been training police k-9's for over 10 years, this video is consistent with the work that we do on a daily basis. For home protection this dog will do fine, they are to big and clumsy for any service work such as police or search and rescue.
True, the Mastiff was a war dog and it was also used to hunt wolves and bears. But on the other hand, they have a natural instinct to guard and need no training to guard their home or their loved ones. I had a Mastiff and it was a formidable dog in all aspects; training a Mastiff yo attack could be quite dangerous and it should only be done by highly qualified professionals. I think these people are, at least I hope so.
A mastiff is a "guard" dog not an "attack" dog. There is a difference. Why would you need to train a 200lb + dog to attack? I guess having a tough "attack dog" makes you feel like a "real tough guy". Pathetic.
Hell, dude I wouldn't even go to your house. LOL. I'd throw your pizza on your lawn like some newspaper or have you come pick it up or just completely shut deliveries to that block. English mastiffs, that you don't know, are SCARY.
@TitusVIII Guess he dropped the pizzas and ran away without payment! That's what they feel like doing when they see my «tiny» American Bulldog already...
You are an idoit, a mastiff doesn't need to be taught how to protect. It comes naturally, and I wouldn't want anyone to train my mastiff or bullmastiff to attack. They are playing with fire and are going to get burned or somebody else they care about. Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.
I think there IS a difference between responsible training like this and the average stupid kid with a 'monster on a lesh'. I know id like my dog to be confident enough to protect me,my home and my family...
The mastiff is classified in the AKC as a working dog. The work in primarily guarding, not cart hauling. Albeit, I discourage reckless training for aggression alone, I leave my mind open for constructive Sch. training. Most of the people criticizing here seem to be out of control emotionally - talking about knocking people out? Like you're some MMA wannabe. The AKC and the like created non-functional English bulldogs, etc. with health problems (compare with American Bulldog).
@LegDestroyer Good comment my reason for the thumbs down to this video. I own a American bulldog with hard work and training the only lung when the trespasser makes a move. This mastiff is awesome but the owner needs to train the dog it is way out of controll. This dog should have been trained more first. What I see here is a retarded owner with a untrained over reactive dog.
What the fuck are you assholes doing here? Are you out of your fucking minds? This is entirely the wrong fucking thing to do with this breed. One day that dog is going to snap and destroy someone; on that day, hopefully you will go to jail for many, many years. Worst fucking video on youtube; goddamn redneck, white-trash slime.
Nice work!!! I do protection work with my "mutt" and it has helped him so much. He loves the work and it helped him calm down in the house. it gives him a job. I want to also work my English Mastiff, but right now I only have the time to work one dog. Both of my dogs are also Therapy dogs. For the people who think this is "Twisted" I think you might not have had the life experience of how much this work could help the quality of your dogs life.
Disgusting. This is NOT the way an English Mastiff should behave. They are a breed known for their gentle and sweet nature and the ability to protect DEFENSIVELY.
Both of my English Mastiffs are healthy and beautiful and sweet as pie. And at 200+lbs can protect with intimidationg alone. Oh. and they can walk and run like any other dog. Just snore louder :P I think you should be knocked upside the head for doing this to a good dog.
Good lord........This is just the kind of thinking that is destroying this breed. The founders of this WORKING breed would rollover in their graves if they heard their once magnificent creation being described as "Sweet and Gentle" Gimme a break!! Go buy a lab and stay away from working dogs!!
As a self-proclaimed custodian of the breed, I am keeping an eye on the show fraternity and I only have one real cause for urgent concern - hip-scoring.
The leading breeders don't hip-score as, obviously, a valuable show-winner could enter the vet's then leave worthless following a poor hip-score.
Bastards putting money before the dogs, once again.
At the present time, in England at any rate, our mastiff's are just fine thank you, apart from a little skittishness in some females.
I have a young bitch now, only 12mths, that has to learn that SHE is the apex predator, with little to fear. Having said that, she batters my male and will choose sides in any human argument and go defensive/protective when the chips are down.
Good to see some mastiffs still alive that are capable of doing what the breed was created for.
Who would have thought that mastiffs don't have to be 200lb rolls of wrinkles with bad hips, no athleticism, and lucky to live to be 7 years old? Looks like the show folks haven't completely ruined the breed...yet.
@devildave78 No, they haven't completely ruined the breed yet but give them a little more time, they're working on it. Case in point, the German Shepherd. It was once the world's premiere working breed. Now American bred GSDs are virtual freaks with sloping backs and rear legs so extremely angulated that they shuffle along dragging their legs on the ground behind them.
@devildave78 I agree! I originally wanted an English Mastiff for guard work, but everywhere I looked, it said does not do well in Bite Work, its a gentle giant. Its nice to see one that isn't jus an oversized dog. If I knew where to obtain a Masiff like this I'd defiently want to get one!
Pit bulls and other "dangerous" dogs become agressive only by stupid people. Personal protection are schutzhund are not such things. In fact most trainers won't encourage average dog owners to do this because of their lack of knowledge in this sport and dogs in general. Its alright though I used to think like you and was pro show, luckily I wasn't afraid to venture to the "other" side. Glad I did. I will NEVER look at shows the same way again.
Mastiffs shouldn't be used for Shutzhund - in fact, it works against their naturally protective nature, and in fact makes them much less effective protectors. Sutzhund is for breeds like German Shepherds, Dobermans, etc. This is just silly, and turns a VERY protective, but almost exclusively gentle, dog into an attack dog.
I really wish you people would do some homework. Schutzhund was indeed developed for herding breeds like the GSD, mal, ect. However working dog breed enthusiats sought to test( or should be) their animals for breed worthiness by using shutzhund. Bull Mastiffs are not recommend for this type of work because of their strong guarding abilities. However today's OEM are far from their great ancestors. This guy proves that there still some REAL mastiffs left among all the trash.
Its silly to you because you don't understand. You like so many others view this with a close mind. There is more to schutzhund than bite work or in your case " attack dogs" Schuzthund consists of three tests obedience, tracking, and protection. Schutzhund training is designed to build confidence ( both handler and dog) and a confident dog is a safe dog. Hope this isn't too much for you to grasp. If your a show person don't waste your time, LOL.
No, it is you who does not understand, and your arrogant and dismissive attitude does not make you look any more informed about the breed. The English Mastiff is ALREADY an incredibly protective breed, though NOT in the (IMO ineffective) shutzhund way. Mastiffs will naturally place themselves between their human companion and whatever they feel is threatening, and will only attack if the threat (human, dog, other animal) then attacks either them or their human companion. You teach them to attack
Dismissive and arrogant...hmm..well anyway. Correction the english mastiff WAS a protective breed, now its an oversized, sickly, useless, shadow of its former self ( I blame the show ring). Most mastiff type breeds being that they are guardians will put themselves in "harms way" however very few are serious. Tell me...you use "attack" so frequently. I'm curious as to what aspects of schutzhund makes any dog mastiff or other a "attack dog?"
(cont'd) you teach them to attack straight away, and to attack in such a needless and ineffective manner. If a dog attacked me in that manner, I wouldn't even struggle to free my arm, I would simply smash its head in and it would be dead. The English Mastiff's natual instint is to use its mass to knock the agrresor over, & then stand over the person. If the person stays still then the Mastiff will hold them there until you deal with them. Your stupid training undoes this more effective intinct.
Again you use the word "attack", you make it seem like schutzhund and other proection sports create these "killer dogs." I would suggest you read up PROTECTION dogs vs ATTACK dogs. (Yes there is a difference)
"Stupid training"? (try not to let your emotions get the best of you.) This "stupid training" as you so put it happens lessen the chance of a dog bite. Did you not ready what I said about confidence? Its ok. Your heart my be in the "right place" but your mindset well....
Good grief! You should be put down, not the dogs you warp and twist! How on EARTH can you take such a gentle, sweet & protective breed & teach it to attack? And YES, I said ATTACK, because that it exactly what shutzhund is about, regardless of what you write here. MASTIFF'S DON'T NEED THIS!!! As for giving THEM "confidence", they already have that in abundance, and they don't need to have idiots like you teaching them to attack people's arms when they were bred for protection, but NOT to attack!
*Chuckles* Its obvious that you don't know what your talking about. Instead of giving facts and details as to why YOU think shutzhund creates "attack" dogs, you whine, resort to childish phrases, and throw a tantrum. Attend a schutzhund training session and see for yourself that this training is not what it seems. It must be hard to understand things from the outside looking in. If your satisfied living with a closed mind, by all means. Don't feel bad though your not alone.
Sorry, you're incorrect. Just curious how teaching a dog to attack makes it more stable and safer? Have you ever read the Mastiff standard? Funny, the AKC and MCOA states something completely different than you. Maybe if I beat the crap out of people who irritate me I'll be safer to be around; is that your reasoning? Stupid Humans have given Pit Bulls a bad name. I hate to see more of the same type owning Mastiffs and purposely training them to become aggressive.
Sorry its late, to anwser your question: Its more than just "teaching a dog to attack." A dog has to pass a series of temperment tests and OB before it can be considered training in PP or schutzhund. This ensures that the dog is not only physically but mentally stable. It reduces the chance of accidental bitings and gives the owner more control over the dog. Also the dog is able to recognize the difference between a "friend" or "foe."
Ok Nothing against your job or whatnot, but this is disturbing. Mastiffs are gentil dogs and do not need agressive training like this to be good protectors. This kinda stuff goes against everything that a mastiff should stand for. That's just MHO as an English Mastiff Fancier.
As a mastiff "fancier" than you should know that this what these dogs were breed to do. If anything its makes the dog stable and more confident, thus making it a safer dog, but of course if your one of those show people it would be hard for you to comprehend. MHO from a working breed enthusiast. As for Ceasar he looks great truly an ideal EM.

Seems I've stepped on some show toes. You know absolutely NOTHING about mastiffs let alone personal protection or schutzhund. Refresher they were breed orginally for fighting/guarding purposes. Unfortunately show breeders like yourself sought fit to "save" the breed by breeding inbreed, cumbersome, unbalanced, monsters. Lesson over.
thats a bad habit of giving the dog the sleeve hes going to be a sleeve dog not a protection dog ....?????

Its very sad the "training" ammounted to teasing it into biting.
Maybe showing even an attack or defend command would have made it look better but from that vid I'd say its pretty poor.
siraff2 2 years ago
haha the guy has to stake the dog to a tree cuz he cant hold on hahaha!!
lcht2 2 years ago
The dog is tied to the tree for the decoy's safety. Its so the guy doing the agitation knows exactly how much line that dog has, so he doesn't get bit.
bulldogger71 2 years ago
yes i know that. its the fact that its to a tree that makes it so funny. but if you didnt notice, the handler also has a leash on the dog. there is no way in hell that if that guy was just holding the leash without the tree reinforceing, he would be dragged around that yard garaunteed
lcht2 2 years ago 3
@lcht2 A properly trained protection dog will go against its instinct and will stop when told so. If not you have a monster and not a protection dog. As well as a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Nice work for a big dog. Most large breeds are garbage.
Well done.

Oh, not to worry. This dog is garbage too.
ALL giant War Mastiff breeds of today are weak imitations of what were once ferocious beasts.
ConiferTreez 2 years ago
They dont seem very proffesional ? i mean, the dog is tired both with a stick and to a tree.. and the dog snaps at them , if they are then they atleast are not the owners... usually this form of training is done without the dog being tired up. ive seen it done with both rottys and great danes. so dont tell me the mastiff is too big, cuz it aint if you know how to train your dog. my rotty would NEVER bite at me, nor be alowed to do so.
rolds123456789 3 years ago
I agree. They look like they are just teaching this mastiff to be very aggressive. Which is what you dont want to do. They are natural guard dogs and dont need this kind of training.
dpowers01 3 years ago
Exactly......they're trying to make a dump truck a race car! If you want a race car, get a race car.
gregger454 2 years ago
actually all dogs have a natural guard instinct, some are just more prounounced than others. Every dog from a german sheperd to a poodle needs training in order to be reliable. You may have the 1 out of a million dog that picks it up like drinking water, but they are far and few between..
lawman0252 2 years ago
Spoken like someone that has never done any protection work at all..
First of all, there is a HUGE HUGE difference in a "rotty" or "great dane" and the mastiff.. No, you could not physically hold the mastiff back when he is being worked..
Secondly, I highly doubt they are the "owners" or the one's that will keep him atleast. They had the appropriate gear so one must assume "they train dogs" and a dog trainer never teaches his/her own dog in defensive work like this..
lawman0252 2 years ago
for defensive work the handler must threaten the dog's sense of well being to get that "fight or flight" drive out in the dog.. if the "owner" were to get this response out of their dog, the dog would always be on guard when around the person.
I have been training police k-9's for over 10 years, this video is consistent with the work that we do on a daily basis. For home protection this dog will do fine, they are to big and clumsy for any service work such as police or search and rescue.

whatever FUCKING breed of dog that is in the background barking like a poodle deserves death its FUCKING ANNOYING LOL Loving that mastiff tho
tigerprince 3 years ago
True, the Mastiff was a war dog and it was also used to hunt wolves and bears. But on the other hand, they have a natural instinct to guard and need no training to guard their home or their loved ones. I had a Mastiff and it was a formidable dog in all aspects; training a Mastiff yo attack could be quite dangerous and it should only be done by highly qualified professionals. I think these people are, at least I hope so.
ManGP78 3 years ago
The mastiff was a war dog...and if it will be bad again like then nothing will stop him ;) great job..it is wery rare to see this
Oruper 3 years ago
A mastiff is a "guard" dog not an "attack" dog. There is a difference. Why would you need to train a 200lb + dog to attack? I guess having a tough "attack dog" makes you feel like a "real tough guy". Pathetic.
1allilore 3 years ago 4
I agree. The size alone would deter almost all would-be intruders.

You should see the look on the pizza guy's face when I open the door and our 220lb mastiff is the first thing he sees......priceless

Hell, dude I wouldn't even go to your house. LOL. I'd throw your pizza on your lawn like some newspaper or have you come pick it up or just completely shut deliveries to that block. English mastiffs, that you don't know, are SCARY.

Nice to see an English Mastiff that is encouraged to act according to how it should for it's breed and being encouraged to PROTECT and DEFEND.
Might I ask who the decoy is? Nice job working the dog up.
BlackWolf6string 3 years ago
You are an idoit, a mastiff doesn't need to be taught how to protect. It comes naturally, and I wouldn't want anyone to train my mastiff or bullmastiff to attack. They are playing with fire and are going to get burned or somebody else they care about. Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.
maine1976 3 years ago 7
I think there IS a difference between responsible training like this and the average stupid kid with a 'monster on a lesh'. I know id like my dog to be confident enough to protect me,my home and my family...
mgbrawl 3 years ago
The mastiff is classified in the AKC as a working dog. The work in primarily guarding, not cart hauling. Albeit, I discourage reckless training for aggression alone, I leave my mind open for constructive Sch. training. Most of the people criticizing here seem to be out of control emotionally - talking about knocking people out? Like you're some MMA wannabe. The AKC and the like created non-functional English bulldogs, etc. with health problems (compare with American Bulldog).
LegDestroyer 3 years ago 10
@LegDestroyer Good comment my reason for the thumbs down to this video. I own a American bulldog with hard work and training the only lung when the trespasser makes a move. This mastiff is awesome but the owner needs to train the dog it is way out of controll. This dog should have been trained more first. What I see here is a retarded owner with a untrained over reactive dog.

Nice work!!! I do protection work with my "mutt" and it has helped him so much. He loves the work and it helped him calm down in the house. it gives him a job. I want to also work my English Mastiff, but right now I only have the time to work one dog. Both of my dogs are also Therapy dogs. For the people who think this is "Twisted" I think you might not have had the life experience of how much this work could help the quality of your dogs life.
cymeno 3 years ago
Mindeeb 3 years ago

I'll put them right though.
zid00001 3 years ago
At the present time, in England at any rate, our mastiff's are just fine thank you, apart from a little skittishness in some females.
I have a young bitch now, only 12mths, that has to learn that SHE is the apex predator, with little to fear. Having said that, she batters my male and will choose sides in any human argument and go defensive/protective when the chips are down.
zid00001 3 years ago
Good to see some mastiffs still alive that are capable of doing what the breed was created for.
Who would have thought that mastiffs don't have to be 200lb rolls of wrinkles with bad hips, no athleticism, and lucky to live to be 7 years old? Looks like the show folks haven't completely ruined the breed...yet.
devildave78 3 years ago 19
Couldn't agree more devildave78.
wombat696969 3 years ago
@devildave78 No, they haven't completely ruined the breed yet but give them a little more time, they're working on it. Case in point, the German Shepherd. It was once the world's premiere working breed. Now American bred GSDs are virtual freaks with sloping backs and rear legs so extremely angulated that they shuffle along dragging their legs on the ground behind them.
JackKangaroo1 1 year ago 2
@devildave78 I agree! I originally wanted an English Mastiff for guard work, but everywhere I looked, it said does not do well in Bite Work, its a gentle giant. Its nice to see one that isn't jus an oversized dog. If I knew where to obtain a Masiff like this I'd defiently want to get one!
nikigurl08 1 year ago
Pit bulls and other "dangerous" dogs become agressive only by stupid people. Personal protection are schutzhund are not such things. In fact most trainers won't encourage average dog owners to do this because of their lack of knowledge in this sport and dogs in general. Its alright though I used to think like you and was pro show, luckily I wasn't afraid to venture to the "other" side. Glad I did. I will NEVER look at shows the same way again.
PBRFan101 3 years ago
Mastiffs shouldn't be used for Shutzhund - in fact, it works against their naturally protective nature, and in fact makes them much less effective protectors. Sutzhund is for breeds like German Shepherds, Dobermans, etc. This is just silly, and turns a VERY protective, but almost exclusively gentle, dog into an attack dog.
Ilionabebe 3 years ago
I really wish you people would do some homework. Schutzhund was indeed developed for herding breeds like the GSD, mal, ect. However working dog breed enthusiats sought to test( or should be) their animals for breed worthiness by using shutzhund. Bull Mastiffs are not recommend for this type of work because of their strong guarding abilities. However today's OEM are far from their great ancestors. This guy proves that there still some REAL mastiffs left among all the trash.
PBRFan101 3 years ago
Its silly to you because you don't understand. You like so many others view this with a close mind. There is more to schutzhund than bite work or in your case " attack dogs" Schuzthund consists of three tests obedience, tracking, and protection. Schutzhund training is designed to build confidence ( both handler and dog) and a confident dog is a safe dog. Hope this isn't too much for you to grasp. If your a show person don't waste your time, LOL.
PBRFan101 3 years ago
No, it is you who does not understand, and your arrogant and dismissive attitude does not make you look any more informed about the breed. The English Mastiff is ALREADY an incredibly protective breed, though NOT in the (IMO ineffective) shutzhund way. Mastiffs will naturally place themselves between their human companion and whatever they feel is threatening, and will only attack if the threat (human, dog, other animal) then attacks either them or their human companion. You teach them to attack
Ilionabebe 3 years ago
Dismissive and arrogant...hmm..well anyway. Correction the english mastiff WAS a protective breed, now its an oversized, sickly, useless, shadow of its former self ( I blame the show ring). Most mastiff type breeds being that they are guardians will put themselves in "harms way" however very few are serious. Tell me...you use "attack" so frequently. I'm curious as to what aspects of schutzhund makes any dog mastiff or other a "attack dog?"
PBRFan101 3 years ago
(cont'd) you teach them to attack straight away, and to attack in such a needless and ineffective manner. If a dog attacked me in that manner, I wouldn't even struggle to free my arm, I would simply smash its head in and it would be dead. The English Mastiff's natual instint is to use its mass to knock the agrresor over, & then stand over the person. If the person stays still then the Mastiff will hold them there until you deal with them. Your stupid training undoes this more effective intinct.
Ilionabebe 3 years ago
Again you use the word "attack", you make it seem like schutzhund and other proection sports create these "killer dogs." I would suggest you read up PROTECTION dogs vs ATTACK dogs. (Yes there is a difference)
"Stupid training"? (try not to let your emotions get the best of you.) This "stupid training" as you so put it happens lessen the chance of a dog bite. Did you not ready what I said about confidence? Its ok. Your heart my be in the "right place" but your mindset well....
PBRFan101 3 years ago
Ilionabebe 3 years ago
*Chuckles* Its obvious that you don't know what your talking about. Instead of giving facts and details as to why YOU think shutzhund creates "attack" dogs, you whine, resort to childish phrases, and throw a tantrum. Attend a schutzhund training session and see for yourself that this training is not what it seems. It must be hard to understand things from the outside looking in. If your satisfied living with a closed mind, by all means. Don't feel bad though your not alone.
PBRFan101 3 years ago
Oh my....... How can a dog protect if it's not willing to attack????????
mjnmjd 3 years ago 3
Sorry, you're incorrect. Just curious how teaching a dog to attack makes it more stable and safer? Have you ever read the Mastiff standard? Funny, the AKC and MCOA states something completely different than you. Maybe if I beat the crap out of people who irritate me I'll be safer to be around; is that your reasoning? Stupid Humans have given Pit Bulls a bad name. I hate to see more of the same type owning Mastiffs and purposely training them to become aggressive.
Disgusting
dcmastiffs 3 years ago
Sorry its late, to anwser your question: Its more than just "teaching a dog to attack." A dog has to pass a series of temperment tests and OB before it can be considered training in PP or schutzhund. This ensures that the dog is not only physically but mentally stable. It reduces the chance of accidental bitings and gives the owner more control over the dog. Also the dog is able to recognize the difference between a "friend" or "foe."
PBRFan101 3 years ago
Ok Nothing against your job or whatnot, but this is disturbing. Mastiffs are gentil dogs and do not need agressive training like this to be good protectors. This kinda stuff goes against everything that a mastiff should stand for. That's just MHO as an English Mastiff Fancier.
nito962 3 years ago
As a mastiff "fancier" than you should know that this what these dogs were breed to do. If anything its makes the dog stable and more confident, thus making it a safer dog, but of course if your one of those show people it would be hard for you to comprehend. MHO from a working breed enthusiast. As for Ceasar he looks great truly an ideal EM.
PBRFan101 3 years ago
As an EM "fancier" than you would know what that is what these dogs were breed to do, rather than prancing around in the show ring.
