Opening a Cocteau Twins CD in the 1980s was like visiting a magical place. I anticipated the sound that would sweep me away for weeks, months and years.
@trippletear I'm with you 1000%. The first time I heard my first song from them; it was like a warm river that washed over me. My eyes and mind were opened to something I never experienced since well ever.
the very first 12" i ever bought from electron records this , i still have it , sighs smell of farewell is enough to make the hardiest of men crumble , thankyou for upoading
such a beautiful sound filled with harmony ,beauty, peace and bliss!!!! A group of Beings from the Kingdom of Light, recognisable by those who are from The Kingdom of Light .God bless you shum65!!!
Cocteau Twins music between 1983 and 1988 (Head Over Heels to Blue Bell Knoll) was like drinking the most heavenly elixir you can imagine......just wallow in the huge wash of chiming guitars, synths and THAT otherworldly voice that is Liz Fraser..... it couldn't get any better than this!
@shum65 I know, I was referring to the style and sound of this song, when I first heard it on Lullabies to Violaine I definetly had the sensation of listening to a track from the Moon and the melodies :)
@shum65 correct the sound and mood of the two songs is very similar and I too love sea swallow me and the moon and the melodies, head over heels and so on. I love cocteaus' unique mix of dream, enigma and melancholy :)
Cocteau Twins are the only band that has ever made me FEEL the music. I feel it right inside my chest. It feels like I'm heartbroken most of the time I'm listening to them, particularly this song. They take me back to the highest and happiest moments in my life. It hurts but it's so beautiful.
@shum65 I've been listening to them since I was a dot. My dad is the biggest CT fan ever and has played them frequently for over 25 years. But now that I'm old enough to appreciate good music, I'm susceptible to the heartbreaking joy of their music. Liz sounds like an angel! Thanks! You too :)
This may be just my imagination, but does anyone else hear Liz belt out "marry me" a couple times near the end and climax of this exquisite and haunting tune?
@shum65 *smiles* Well, if she IS by chance singing out "Marry Me" then I feel a tad bit silly for posting this song onto the guy I am bonkers overs facebook page... Sure hope HE doesn't hear the same things I hear, I don't want him to run away screaming. lol <3 Hope all is well with you dear, sweet Davey
wonderful ... the soundtrack to my life ... I've fallen in love with 2 girls, both times it was those eyes, that mouth that did it. I adored this song from the first time I heard it, mainly because it was cracking, and also because it was the first Cocteau Twins song I heard before my brother heard it....and because it was cracking!
always been one of my favourite songs and so such stronger than the A side it accompanied, also shum. i really love what youve done with the video, looks perfect for the shimmering, soaring & swooping vocals of liz fraser
have already commented on this probably, SHUM, but omg i cannot get enough of this song EVER! and the dark hues you use as a motif here REALLY speak to me.
Love's Easy Tears is my favourite EP. I know it was only 4 tracks but they all settled in my blood and bones when I was the tender age of 16. Wow, almost 21 years ago. <3 ya!
I think this song has to be the high water mark for Liz's vocals ( I know some will disagree!) - I love the Edith Piaf flavour to her styling in parts of this song. Such an amazing track...

@NotHomelessAnymore I extract pure ESP from the proven witchcraft skills of homeless feral veterans of war. the captain wants a polygraph. the leuitnant wants a voice analyzer. the homeless woman that stole from the NSA store wants a train to run over her.
@noradosmith much apreCIAted. The company of strangers is an odd-ball game. You need martial arts to sit in some bars. They back you up if you can at least be civil to an unkown stripper/prostitute shipped up north What i was trying to say is the lead singer EF married me when i was 16. she south of where i was at...she took more acid than is humanly possible. She dumped me when my hell's angels lsd connection decided i was miltary-ish. they not down with bombing abortion clinics. i was.
Hi again:-) I've really enjoyed going through your tracks here Shum, it takes me right back to my teens - I was such a massive Cocteau's fan, I had allsorts, some rare imports too at one time, they were always on my Walkman - remember them?!lol Makes me remember the long hot summers of the 80's - happy days!
amazing of course, this song blew my mind when i bought the EP, i have all their records except 2, which i have to track down. I have all their CD's and a rare interview picture LP.
I wanted to say that I agree with another comment who said that 1986 was the year when CT exploted, like a butterfly, from the dark sound to the light and colours although in my opinion BBK is a little dark again but in a very different way than the first cds,not exactly dark but uncomfortable sound (wonderful LP anyway)that is more or less what I wanted to say but my english is not good enough to explain with details the things that one can feel with the music of this miraculous band called CT
zourrender lleva toda la razon,CT pasan del sonido oscuro a una explosion floral de luz y de color en el 86 aunque BBK del 88 volvia a ser un disco aspero aunque no oscuro como los primeros
Hi shum, please can you tell me what kind of guitar robin is using? and how he make these ethereal sounds? LOL, I didn't know who to ask, and I googled but I didn't find anything. So I came to ask you since you are a hard-core Cocteaux fan (Like me :P).. It would be amazing if you helped me cause I'm thinking to buy a guitar and learn to play it, but I want it to sound like Robin's :)
@lazord1991 hey dude, robin uses a lot of not so well known guitars from random companies i'm pretty sure cause i have never seen anything like the guitar he uses. but i can help you find out what causes the ethereal sounds you hear from his guitar. it sounds like he's using a lot of reverb and chorus and maybe some delay here and there.
@lazord1991 I tried a Jazzmaster through an old Big Muff v2 and into an EHX Polychorus. I read somewhere that Robin used those two and sounded quite similar. From there a battery of delays and mostly reverbs. I think he uses some Eventide racks. For the long sustained lines like on Moon And Melodies I think he uses an Ebow. Hope this helps!
I'm very lucky to be a teenager who is blessed by the music of this band. Here in Saudi Arabia all the teens are damned by the pop and mainstream rock bands and they praise them like nothing else. So I'm grateful that this is the band who made know how to feel. I've always said that if heaven had a rock band, it will be the Cocteau Twins. One of my favorites shum, Thank you.
ok i'll do my best. 1986 should be the exploding year for the Cocteaus: victorialand, the moon... and this ep record called "love's easy tears"; in just one year they did explore the most deep and polished sensibility and right then got us amazed with those songs charged with shining melancholy as they called love's easy tears. There could not be one single trick on it.
@zourrender Hi my friend...you speak English really well....I to agree, 86 was such a groundbreaking year for the Cocteaus...two awesome and very individual albums like nothing else in the charts at the time, and then as you said this -classic song taken from the "Love,s Easy Tears" 12inch, I,ve still got all of them on vinyl from back in the day..
Many thanks for translating your comments my friend.....!!!!
when the music changes at ):37 / 3 :41 I could just die! robin guthri is NUT's with it..... this sound TOTALLY triggers something in my head like crazy...I've never taken a drug in my LIFE and it feels so weird..I keep play that part over just to see if it really happens..and it does..all of these different note's and sounds stirr so...
you have groups like 'KORN",.. and "slip KNOT" and such that look all scary and what not then you have liz that spooked me when I saw her on stage cause I thought she was going to sprout wings for sure and just start flying around..
all this music does is just make me cry n crap.... it suck's I hate in a ( I totally fricken beyond like it) kinda way...ho hummmm..the guitar soar's too much..the chord changes change to greatly..I thought you had to be from this planet to sing in a group..?? where the heck is she from..
everytime, everytime i hear the outro to this masterpiece i get choked up and i get goose bumps...no other song can do that to me. it's a strange magic.
does the WMG ownership issue mean that the music will be taken away from youtube, from our pleasure, from our innocent reasons for listening, our joy at the sound. it is intensely sad that music is 'stolen' from its creative source for capital gain for the coorporations. WMG is a monstrous abomination, i am gonna steal it back, and place it in our souls.
Cocteaus are a bit like Pink Floyd: you go for the music not the show and if you can't appreciate that, well...that's the real shame for you.. Liz and Robin are more like a book which you read and imagine you own scenario...
Just my point of view (I saw lots of them years ago [ thanks for the Throwing Muses, by the way, Ivo and 4AD])
What a load of criminal spheres from bobby: Nothing can detract from Liz's vocals...Love's Easy Tears is possibly my favourite of all Cocteau's wonderful contribution to the world of music and to my life in partricular...Rock on, Liz, Robin and Simon XX
Hi vazjam...no bobbs was just standing- up for me mate,it was the other person saying my video did nothing for the song, Your totally right my friend saying that - nothing can ever detract from Liz's iconic, and heavenly vocals... You have great taste in music vazjam... This is one of my many faves by them... jahraytv, got a bit confused thinking that it was bobby who had done the video..!! I agree vazjam,Rock on.Liz,Robin,Simon!! Great hearing from ya mate....!!
My pleasure...no - really - great to communicate with someone who shares my choice in music...it's been a long time...I nearly met Robin, once, a long time ago: he was dropping some kit off for my mate at her house....drat...missed it! (actually, probably good that I did...Not so great meeting your idols and finding that their feet are made of clay...)...
Hi vazza...know what mean about meeting your idols..thats a fear I,ve always had... its better not to, just leave them up their on that pedestal.. Although Ive chatted to Simon Raymonde, earlier this year,he,d heard I was having troubles with copyright issues and the- Warner Music Group, and offered his help, He was really great, and very kind about my videos for the band...we,re friends on MySpace too...alas as he said the band made little money from their songs.!! Best 2 ya mate...!!
Hi, Shum: how would Simon ever be anything other than a gentleman? I'm amazed that they made little money....There truely is no justice, is there?
The friend I alluded to, whom I met in pub in London where we were both playing a gig, became a great mate and I actually ended up doing backing vocals on her 'critically acclaimed' album (only great because of my contribution, of course....!!!). One case of not being disillusioned, I guess...
Hi vaz...your right about the Cocteau's..its an absolute crime they made hardly any money from all their classic tracks... Simon did say, it was down to lack of their own experience back then, and also some bad management.....alas it seems that the Warner Music group, have all the rights to their music, except for some later stuff!! Hes a great guy Simon, very helpful... Hey ...Good to chat to ya vaz...!! Best wishes mate...!!
It has been a pleasure, Shum: all the best to you...I've posted this as a favourite to share and shall pursue Flagstones to post also (my page shall become a shrine to Cocteaus, if I'm not careful...So much more to discover, though: keep me posted with music you think I would like to hear).
Hi, Shum: Oddly enough, on a roll last night, I added some Dead Can Dance to my favourites! As for This Mortal Coil...What can I say? .I think Song to the Siren should take first place in all my fave's. I never really got to grips with Victorialand & the Harold Budd collaboration really got forgotten past the first hearing...What are your thoughts on the early offerings..Garlands etc?
I also love Ivo's Bulgarain Voices which, if you haven't given a chance, you must.
Hi, Shum: sorry for the confusion, I meant that Ivo of 4AD produced Mystere de la Voix Bulgares (poor attempt at French there..!). I love everything on Treasure (including Ivo...did DCD do a version? Wow, that would be worth a listen..).
I does like dis type when at d start she sounds like she's singing lists.

the first time i heard a song by the cocteau twins it was on an old
gramaphone record and i was playing it at 33rpm instead of 45. they
sounded even more mysterious like that though i did give up on them
twice. then i heard an album that was supposed to be played at 33
and i thought 'oh, they've improved'

Hi again:-) I've really enjoyed going through your tracks here Shum, it takes me right back to my teens - I was such a massive Cocteau's fan, I had allsorts, some rare imports too at one time, they were always on my Walkman - remember them?!lol Makes me remember the long hot summers of the 80's - happy days!

I wanted to say that I agree with another comment who said that 1986 was the year when CT exploted, like a butterfly, from the dark sound to the light and colours although in my opinion BBK is a little dark again but in a very different way than the first cds,not exactly dark but uncomfortable sound (wonderful LP anyway)that is more or less what I wanted to say but my english is not good enough to explain with details the things that one can feel with the music of this miraculous band called CT
hantonjavi 1 year ago
@hantonjavi Hi their, your English is fantastic my friend...
86 was indeed a brilliant year, I love all the differing shades
of the CT music, dark and colourful, BBK was amazing indeed,
filled with moving and emotional songs, its great to hear your
thoughts also hantonjavi, I so agree with you that the CT are a
truly miraculous band.....many thanks my friend.....!!!!
shum65 1 year ago
zourrender lleva toda la razon,CT pasan del sonido oscuro a una explosion floral de luz y de color en el 86 aunque BBK del 88 volvia a ser un disco aspero aunque no oscuro como los primeros
hantonjavi 1 year ago
@hantonjavi Hi Their my friend, sorry that I cant understand what you
have written, but its really great to hear from you, sounds like your
a huge CTs fan, and that you bought their BBK album back in 88,
its a classic album, and they sure are brilliant and original band.
Thanks hantonjavi......!!!!

I'm thinking he's using Jazzmasters/Jaguars mostly with An early boss stereo reverb and a bit of chorus w/delay. Very Kevin Shields.
feedbackhead 1 year ago
@feedbackhead Hi their, good to hear from you my friend..
I think your right about Robins sound effects, though I,m no
expert in these things, cheers for that feedbackhead.....!!!!
shum65 1 year ago
Hi shum, please can you tell me what kind of guitar robin is using? and how he make these ethereal sounds? LOL, I didn't know who to ask, and I googled but I didn't find anything. So I came to ask you since you are a hard-core Cocteaux fan (Like me :P).. It would be amazing if you helped me cause I'm thinking to buy a guitar and learn to play it, but I want it to sound like Robin's :)
lazord1991 1 year ago
@lazord1991 Hi Their, Sorry but I,m no expert on which guitars
Robin uses, but have you tried his MySpace site, you should be
able to either ask him or leave a message for him, asking which
guitars he uses, also I,m sure other fans who are more expert in
guitars may well be able to help you my friend, wished I could do
more to help, but let me know how you get on m8...
Best Of Luck with it all......!!!!
shum65 1 year ago
@lazord1991 hey dude, robin uses a lot of not so well known guitars from random companies i'm pretty sure cause i have never seen anything like the guitar he uses. but i can help you find out what causes the ethereal sounds you hear from his guitar. it sounds like he's using a lot of reverb and chorus and maybe some delay here and there.
her0indragon 1 year ago
@her0indragon Cheers my friend, I,m glad you are able to help
lazlord, I knew their would be someone with the knowledge.
Its really good of ya m8...thanks for that.....!!!
shum65 1 year ago

@lazord1991 Hi my friend, its really great to hear your love of the Cocteaus music
and all the way from Saudi Arabia too, its really great to hear from you lazlord.

shum65 1 year ago
ok i'll do my best. 1986 should be the exploding year for the Cocteaus: victorialand, the moon... and this ep record called "love's easy tears"; in just one year they did explore the most deep and polished sensibility and right then got us amazed with those songs charged with shining melancholy as they called love's easy tears. There could not be one single trick on it.
zourrender 1 year ago
@zourrender Hi my friend...you speak English really well....I to agree, 86 was such a groundbreaking year for the Cocteaus...two awesome and very individual albums like nothing else in the charts at the time, and then as you said this -classic song taken from the "Love,s Easy Tears" 12inch, I,ve still got all of them on vinyl from back in the day..
Many thanks for translating your comments my friend.....!!!!
Have a great weekend......
shum65 1 year ago

does the WMG ownership issue mean that the music will be taken away from youtube, from our pleasure, from our innocent reasons for listening, our joy at the sound. it is intensely sad that music is 'stolen' from its creative source for capital gain for the coorporations. WMG is a monstrous abomination, i am gonna steal it back, and place it in our souls.
symphonythree 2 years ago 3
Hi mate..Some of its been removed 4 now
sure hope its not for good,I guess until this money issue with YouTube is sorted
Good point mate about stealing it back.!!

Good to here from ya my friend...!!
shum65 2 years ago

Best to you, my friend

Hi, Shum: how would Simon ever be anything other than a gentleman? I'm amazed that they made little money....There truely is no justice, is there?
The friend I alluded to, whom I met in pub in London where we were both playing a gig, became a great mate and I actually ended up doing backing vocals on her 'critically acclaimed' album (only great because of my contribution, of course....!!!). One case of not being disillusioned, I guess...
No news on outstanding royalties then?

shum65 2 years ago
Hi, Shum: Oddly enough, on a roll last night, I added some Dead Can Dance to my favourites! As for This Mortal Coil...What can I say? .I think Song to the Siren should take first place in all my fave's. I never really got to grips with Victorialand & the Harold Budd collaboration really got forgotten past the first hearing...What are your thoughts on the early offerings..Garlands etc?
I also love Ivo's Bulgarain Voices which, if you haven't given a chance, you must.

Hi Vaz..I love all "Garlands" One of my fave
albums by the Twins..and "Blind Dumb -
Deaf" my fave track..."Victorialand" is such
an awesome album, you should listen to
it a few times mate..just beautiful...!!
Ive done videos to them both..
Which version of "Ivo" do you mean.??
Ive done a video for the Cocteau's ace-
"Treasure" album version...
Do you mean the DCD version.??
shum65 2 years ago
Hi, Shum: sorry for the confusion, I meant that Ivo of 4AD produced Mystere de la Voix Bulgares (poor attempt at French there..!). I love everything on Treasure (including Ivo...did DCD do a version? Wow, that would be worth a listen..).
