You forgot that the GPU is not the only piece of hardware in a console that contributes to graphics performance, the Processor, ram and clock speeds all matter.

@gguru1 You might want to make a new Video, because if the 720 is sticking to his same chip, the Wii U shall have a better and higher proficiency. Erase the 20% better, the Wii just reclaimed that and is showing a possible 7 times more powerful than 360 and 5 times more powerful than the PS3.
@Wilzehagawa I'm not interested in nitpicking over whether I can support the idea that Wii U is MORE POWERFUL than the 720, as long as the systems are comparable in what we can expect from the horsepower and visuals, the point of this video is rock solid IMO.
If Wii U can be solidly proved to be of superior performance to the Xbox 720, that's something for another day, and IMO I'm not interested in building an argument for that at the moment.

That is both true and false. True because graphics do not mean the gameplay will be as good/bad. False because many titles nowadays require more powerful systems to run. Many FPS's are primary examples.
The point is, Wii was incapable of running many great games. Like Mass Effect, Fallout, etc. But with the Wii U, I think the three systems will finally have a fair fight, since they're not all focusing on horsepower, and more on making the games fun.
I hope I'm right... I had a feeling the WiiU won't be far outclassed. Plus, WiiU is pretty much using current tech (the graphics chip was released in late 2011, apparently)

As usual (at least, for me), for each console/handheld it all comes down to 'good games' than the measurement of a console's power output, in the end. ^_^
Next Gen XBOX uses IBM PowerPC and AMD(ATi) GPU, Wii U uses IBM Power PC and AMD(ATi). Back in the 6th generation, Nintendo chose to use an IBM Power PC and an ATi GPU for the GameCube while Dreamcast used Hitachi and PowerVR, PS2 used Sony proprietary CPU/GPU, XBOX used Intel and Nvidia. Nintendo continued their partnership and used IBM/ATi for Wii. The 360 decided to use the Nintendo combo for the 360. IBM also had a hand in PS3's Cell processor. Nintendo is a trend setter!
The thing about it is that it's up to the programmers and developers to leverage what the system can offer. Clever programming can eek power out of any system. I know a guy that can run beautiful, new HD games on his old CPU processor.
Many people gauge a system by it's "power" these days, and it's a remnant of the 8-, 16-, 32- and 64-bit era wars. The fact that Wii U is HD and comparable in any sense to what's expected from MS or Sony means the line will be blurry at best.
i'm a hardcore nintendo fan but i love games and own a 360 and plan to get a PS3 when i get the money there are great games on all 3 platforms but i'm a nintendo fan at heart graphics and horse power doesn't matter to me fun games do!
that does seem marginal. and it will be about the games themselves. developers are clearly making games for the Wii U, and 720 games would be playable on Wii U. in terms of power, the big jump is from Wii to Wii U. glad they're doing HD but i'm most interested in the upcoming games and that controller.

I've been a PC gamer my entire life and it really comes down to specific things found within the memory, processor, and video card. If the processor is DX11 compatible you're going to see graphics comparable to things found on the PC right now. I have to say, I'm so excited to see a Metroid and a Zelda in HD.

@Wilzehagawa 1.4 TB hard drive? Hm...storage is nice, but flash/solid-state storage is the future. Sure, you get a lot less storage, but it's faster, quieter, and more reliable. Wii U apparently will have 8GB of flash storage onboard but it's expandable via SD cards or USB hard drives.

the way i am seeing things unfolding, the xbox720 will be a big loser thanks to wii u, think about this, studios will be like crazy trying to make games for the wii u (since it will sell like hot cakes), the games will be for the 3 systems ps3, 360 and wii u, microsoft will launch 720 in 2013, one year ahead of sony, meaning sony will have 2 years more to compete with the wii u, meanwhile they prepare the beast that the ps4 will be, by 2014 ps3 users will be more than ready to wowed with ps4

The rumored GPU in the 720 is a later-generation processor than the Wii U's, but it's actually not as good, according to many PC gamers. An R770 is actually a lot better than a 6000 series processor.
So if this is true, the Wii U will actually be able to output better graphics than the 720. Not that I care. Just reporting what I've seen. All I want is an HD Zelda, F-Zero, Starfox, and that Smash Bros 4 and I could care less how powerful the Wii U is.
@Shokio This is debatable, the R770 is a general engineering term used for the main GPU used in the higher end AMD 4000 series GPUs, the AMD 6000 series isn't much more than more power effecient AMD 5000 series cards, (Save for the 6950,6970, and 6990) and isn't notably more powerful than the 4000 series (I speak as someone who has come from having a PC with a 4870 to a 6950) especially if Microsoft chooses a lower-end GPU.
Wasn't Twilight Princess scolded by critics for having blurry backrounds and such? I never noticed, I was to busy having fun exploring the overworld, solving puzzles, fighting epic boss battles, meeting new and interesting characters, and having fun in the amazing Zelda universe that Nintendo created for us. Thats what games are all about.
I never strive to see the value in any system if those systems don't have games I'm interested in there's no point in me to support them. But if the next xbox is as powerful as the Wii U or more powerful big deal. Specs and graphics don't make games fun.
I have enjoyed so many games on the Wii, PS3, and 360 and not once did graphics come into my mind as to why I enjoyed the game as much as I did. I loved the art styles in the Super Mario Galaxy games, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword. I enjoyed the realism of Call of Duty and the attention to detail. I enjoyed all of these games because they were fun to play. Seriously there is only so many time I can watch a building blow up in Cod and go " wow that was really cool " but when you come back
Honestly, I don't think there will be much difference in terms of graphical power in the next generation. Just like in the last generation, games should be able to easily be ported from one system to another without being watered down.

The story IGN reported and claims to have independently verified was previously reported on by two earlier secondary source websites who have cited leaks from primary sources who have made congruent claims about the "720's" specs to IGN's alleged informant.

That is both true and false. True because graphics do not mean the gameplay will be as good/bad. False because many titles nowadays require more powerful systems to run. Many FPS's are primary examples.

The point is, Wii was incapable of running many great games. Like Mass Effect, Fallout, etc. But with the Wii U, I think the three systems will finally have a fair fight, since they're not all focusing on horsepower, and more on making the games fun.

I hope I'm right... I had a feeling the WiiU won't be far outclassed. Plus, WiiU is pretty much using current tech (the graphics chip was released in late 2011, apparently)
This is going to be a great generation. I hope this is like, or even better than the Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube era :D

Next Gen XBOX uses IBM PowerPC and AMD(ATi) GPU, Wii U uses IBM Power PC and AMD(ATi). Back in the 6th generation, Nintendo chose to use an IBM Power PC and an ATi GPU for the GameCube while Dreamcast used Hitachi and PowerVR, PS2 used Sony proprietary CPU/GPU, XBOX used Intel and Nvidia. Nintendo continued their partnership and used IBM/ATi for Wii. The 360 decided to use the Nintendo combo for the 360. IBM also had a hand in PS3's Cell processor. Nintendo is a trend setter!

The thing about it is that it's up to the programmers and developers to leverage what the system can offer. Clever programming can eek power out of any system. I know a guy that can run beautiful, new HD games on his old CPU processor.
Many people gauge a system by it's "power" these days, and it's a remnant of the 8-, 16-, 32- and 64-bit era wars. The fact that Wii U is HD and comparable in any sense to what's expected from MS or Sony means the line will be blurry at best.

that does seem marginal. and it will be about the games themselves. developers are clearly making games for the Wii U, and 720 games would be playable on Wii U. in terms of power, the big jump is from Wii to Wii U. glad they're doing HD but i'm most interested in the upcoming games and that controller.

Just found you online! This is my first video I've seen of you and I definitely agree with your points. They're so similar. I've been a PC gamer my entire life and it really comes down to specific things found within the memory, processor, and video card. If the processor is DX11 compatible you're going to see graphics comparable to things found on the PC right now. I have to say, I'm so excited to see a Metroid and a Zelda in HD.

@RETRONGAMES79 Exactly my thought even before I read your post. If GTA 5 and Resident evil 6 are launch titles for the Wii U, it's a long kiss goodnight xbox720; with it's copy of a Wii U tablet. Add monster Hunter freedom Unite-tri 3D to the Wii U and it shall sell 20 million Wii U's in Japan alone first 18 months on the shelves :) 200 million life time Wii U's with Zelda having two HD releases.

LOVING the fact that it's above the 2 times more powerful than the xbox 360 threshold. Incoming report states that the PS4 shall have a 1.4 terabyte hard drive snap! This generation eight is a new beginning indeed. I have a feeling Microsoft shall suffer terribly this time around.

@Wilzehagawa 1.4 TB hard drive? Hm...storage is nice, but flash/solid-state storage is the future. Sure, you get a lot less storage, but it's faster, quieter, and more reliable. Wii U apparently will have 8GB of flash storage onboard but it's expandable via SD cards or USB hard drives.

Who are we going to believe? One developer says it's underpowered for them another says it's more powerful than the anticipated. NINTENDO is crazy and crazy good. The probably sent out kits for all 10 Wii U prototypes hahaha. Hope this is bethesda that is complaining; cause I know the cCRYSIS engine guys are loving them some Wii U.

the way i am seeing things unfolding, the xbox720 will be a big loser thanks to wii u, think about this, studios will be like crazy trying to make games for the wii u (since it will sell like hot cakes), the games will be for the 3 systems ps3, 360 and wii u, microsoft will launch 720 in 2013, one year ahead of sony, meaning sony will have 2 years more to compete with the wii u, meanwhile they prepare the beast that the ps4 will be, by 2014 ps3 users will be more than ready to wowed with ps4

The funny thing is that the naysayers had no reasoning behind their arguments while those who predicted this made solid cases for it.

The rumored GPU in the 720 is a later-generation processor than the Wii U's, but it's actually not as good, according to many PC gamers. An R770 is actually a lot better than a 6000 series processor.
So if this is true, the Wii U will actually be able to output better graphics than the 720. Not that I care. Just reporting what I've seen. All I want is an HD Zelda, F-Zero, Starfox, and that Smash Bros 4 and I could care less how powerful the Wii U is.

@Shokio This is debatable, the R770 is a general engineering term used for the main GPU used in the higher end AMD 4000 series GPUs, the AMD 6000 series isn't much more than more power effecient AMD 5000 series cards, (Save for the 6950,6970, and 6990) and isn't notably more powerful than the 4000 series (I speak as someone who has come from having a PC with a 4870 to a 6950) especially if Microsoft chooses a lower-end GPU.

Wasn't Twilight Princess scolded by critics for having blurry backrounds and such? I never noticed, I was to busy having fun exploring the overworld, solving puzzles, fighting epic boss battles, meeting new and interesting characters, and having fun in the amazing Zelda universe that Nintendo created for us. Thats what games are all about.

I never strive to see the value in any system if those systems don't have games I'm interested in there's no point in me to support them. But if the next xbox is as powerful as the Wii U or more powerful big deal. Specs and graphics don't make games fun.

I have enjoyed so many games on the Wii, PS3, and 360 and not once did graphics come into my mind as to why I enjoyed the game as much as I did. I loved the art styles in the Super Mario Galaxy games, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword. I enjoyed the realism of Call of Duty and the attention to detail. I enjoyed all of these games because they were fun to play. Seriously there is only so many time I can watch a building blow up in Cod and go " wow that was really cool " but when you come back

Honestly, I don't think there will be much difference in terms of graphical power in the next generation. Just like in the last generation, games should be able to easily be ported from one system to another without being watered down.
