I've seen the whole of the 1st of the Summer Wine episodes from the late 80's..It was very cleverly written to show these characters b4 the WW2..Clarke and Co. are great writers..BBC were so lucky to have found such great comedy writers in the 60/70's..etc..It was defo a golden age for the sit-com back then..Some real classics were penned then..and I can watch most of 'em on youtube! Thnk God 4 Youtube & ppl like urslef who post these shows on here..cheers mate!
@AZGingerLady Sad that he was in Last Of The Summer Wine for so short a time. He was my favourite character. His tall stature, long coat, the small, neat moustache and the soft, lilting voice. A true English gentleman. Michael Bates died in 1978.
