Ok so the two who say Phaneuf sucks are absolutley ignorant. He makes perfect sense to be the cover athlete. This year, they are focused on the defensive skill stick. So they want a defenseman. They are trying to appeal to the younger audiences and have someone fresh so consider Niedermeyer, Pronger and Lidstrom out. So who's the best young defenseman in the league at the moment? It's Phaneuf hands down.

the EA NHL games haven't been good since about NHL 95. Unless you like arcade crap that tries to present itself as sim, but fails completely.

well, nhl99 was pretty good, and It's my all-time favorite EA game.

don't get me wrong, EA's games are NOT sim, but they are miles above the RECENT 2k games.

ever since next gen, 2k has but out garbage NHL games.

(if you want to make NHL08 more sim)

all you have to do is play with the in-game sliders, just like in 2k, the only difference being, 2k has a preset "sim" setting.

if you get good sliders, this game can be VERY realistic.

I'm afraid you're entirely wrong. NHL 2008 can't be VERY realistic at all.

In fact, no hockey game ever made is even CLOSE to being realistic. Go watch an NHL game and then go play any video game, there is no such thing as a realistic hockey game. It's simply too complex, and no one has really even come close.

The difference is, 2k at least tries. The only reason people hated 2k8 was because they were too lazy to learn the controls (which were brilliant and gave WAY more control than EA).

true, it's impossible for a video game to be a replica of the real NHL. but NHL08 is MUCH closer than 2K8.

I had no problem with the 2K controls, they were fine by me. I just don't like the "feel" of the 2K games, they feel like they are floating, and not skating. The visuals are weak, and most importantly, the online play is a joke.

nothing personal against 2K, but EA blows them out of the water. (I'm not an EA fanboy, I buy the better game, regardless of company.)
