  • I love the way he approaches the bar and sets himself. Spunk

  • long ass arms!

  • he's from my home town of Flint Michigan baby

  • who deadlifted 5 x bw at 114 lb class?

  • Dude looks built to deadlift. Those arms are massive for his height.

  • His long arms helped him deadlift 5 times his bodyweight, but they didn't help him bench press over 2.5 times his bodyweight.

  • @stuqua Actually, it's questionable whether the better leverage actually helped him with the deadlift either. Since his massive lateral spinal curvature means that he was predominantly lifting with only one side of his back. And as you say, everyone can see that he was insanely strong on the bench press as well, where spinal curvature makes little to no difference. His muscles and CNS are just extremely efficient. Makes you think what he would've been able to pull with a perfectly healthy back.

  • He has NO torso. Not to take away from his accomplishment, but look at where the bar is. Almost zero range of motion.

  • Where is his tail? :O

  • @Ben85paintball son, when Lamar Gant has achieved all there is to achieve in the powerlifting world, there is no reason for you not to believe.

  • @Ben85paintball Lamar was a gift from the gods. Dont doubt for a second he didnt have natural strength. First time he lifted weights at the age of 16 he pulled in excess 500 pounds weighing less that 120lbs.

  • @Ben85paintball he had very long arms compared to other lifters of a similar height. Therefore he didn't have to life the bar as far, which means he can lift more.

  • My uncle lamar is AWESOME!!! He was great to grow up around!

  • Lamar Gant and sumo deadlift = win

  • @Duffman89detmig haha. thing is though - with his long arms and sumo deadlift = can he even get the weight of the ground? since his arm prob can touch the ground in sumo stance :^P

  • @jappanese lol true

  • I just met THE, Lamar Gant tonight....i wa so inspired to start powerlifting...I am currently enrolled in school to be a strength and conditioning coach...this was something unspeakable to meet him...i cant believe i met him and i offered to him that if he had time to train me with what he knows and pursure my dreams with his help...i even got his number to hang out and chill with him...get'r done

  • Why the F*&k arent there more videos of lamar gant. The greatest powerlifter ever. like seriously i know theres footage out there, people are just being fags. lame

  • @Kingkrptonite Fags! Are you really such a dick!

  • @amarone1956 I just want more footage of a great athlete for i am in the pursuit of perfection in this beautifull sport.

  • @MegaAwesomeDan Unfortunately there is not a lot of great footage of lifters from this era. Look on here for Doug Young, Vince Anello, and Larry Pacifico.

  • @amarone1956 It's hard to believe that these meets weren't filmed ENTIRELY. Surely this whole tape is in a archive somewhere.

  • I once did his 25X5 iron man deadlift workout one morning, took one hour to complete. back was so sore i couldn't even stand.

  • i bet he had mad hops

  • wheapon!!

  • i saw someone deadlift 600lbs. in the 123's this year

  • This guy had long ass arms, and severe scoliosis, what a great combo for deadlifting!

  • best powerlifter to ever live (in terms of relative strength)

  • @jdoyle650 Cough cough..The Best Powerlifter to ever live. PERIOD In all terms of powerlifting. NEVER On roids and unbeaten records that still stand as walls of iron. Equivalent to Pocket Hercules in my book.

  • Anthropometrics ftw!

  • Read that this guy was the first man to ever total 12x his bodyweight, with a total of 1,587 lbs at 132 lbs bodyweight. Also deadlifted 683 lbs at 132 lbs bodyweight, a 5x bodyweight lift. Impressive!

  • @N: In '82@123, Gant deadlifted 5.18x bodyweight. This WR still stands. In '88@132, he DL'd 5.17x BW. This also still stands. The '82 DL's the longest-standing WR in powerlifting, one of the longest in sports. Lighter division records tend to be a higher % of BW, but Gant's two records still surpass the 114 lb class DL record of 5.00x BW, set 11yrs later. Truly the two greatest lifts ever, all the more amazing for being 6yrs apart..

  • @Notofthisworld13 also had scolioses

  • han borde börja med slägga:-)

  • perfekta marklyftsgener?

  • Man vill gärna tro det...

  • hahahhahahhahaha

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome. wish there were more videos of him.

  • Thanks for uploading!

  • I know lamar gant as a friend. Grew up in the same area of flint. He had long arms as you can tell and short in height. I'm not sure if he is still in powerlifting or what. Can some one give some infor on him. Thanks

  • Great video....thank you very much!!!!!!!!
