  • The were called THE RHYTHM KINGS at the time NOT "the kings of rhythm"!!!

  • ike made tina famous first i love them both just not those other things GREAT MUSIC AND LIVES xoxoxoxoxoxo

  • ike was a great A/R man and the man who brught rock n roll to the front of all music

  • 7:10 less thaN THREE

  • Ike had another girl billed as Tina Turner before the renown Tina. She was from Greenville, Ms. and her name was Willie May......

  • Thanks for posting this. It's great to see Ike Turner and his band on St. Louis'

    Party Time

  • I met Johnnie Johnson a few times, and Johnnie and Ike were some of the earliest creators of what is now called Rock & Roll / rhythm & blues.

  • Ike Turner was a great established musician before he met Tina. But those early years of his career has never been recognised as much as his tenure with Tina. It's too bad that he marred his legacy due to his abusive nature and drug addiction.

  • Johnnie Johnson told me Ike Turner & his Kings of Rhythm was the best act in town together with Little Milton, Albert King and Chuck Berry.

  • This is a fantastic video from 50's St. Louis!!!

  • Nice.

  • Here we see one of Rock's "Founding Fathers"

  • my grandmother use to date ike a long long time ago until he meet anna (tina turner)

  • What did she told you about the guy?

  • @msnean69

wow no disrespect but you must be mature. mutuer tnen 80 plus. so what was your views on ur grand daughter dating ike????/?

  • @rysim1984 Hey buddy relax. I was a booking agent back then (and I'm not 80) and Ike was a true blues visionary whose recording of Rocket 88 was considered the first rock n roll record. Whatever happened in their relationship is between them. I'm sure you have a few skeletons in your closet. The problem with being a celebrity is you air your dirty laundry in front of the whole world. What we should pay attention is his contribution to music period.

  • I LIKE IKE

  • Haven't I heard that statement before? :D

  • Nope. I'm afraid there's none existing. As far as I know it was only a studio session... Sorry.

  • Can't find a video of these guys doing "Rocket 88" anywhere...supposedly the first rock & Roll song. Don't happen to have that laying around the vault somewhere, do ya?

  • It is! Every body credits The KINKS and THE STOOGES with the hard riff sound but they Mimicked it from Ike Turners "Busted AMP" sound Rocket 88

  • the distorted sound on rocket 88 was created by sam phillips. The band was driving to the studio and an amplifier fell off and was damaged. When they got to the studio sam stuffed the amps full of paper, hence the distorted sound
