  • Why did the hangman retired in poverty?

  • no one has the right to take any one's life.....thei guy looks miserable, and unfortunately he died poor...

  • Capital punishment was the way to go to punish people in the BIBLE - in the old testament. God ordered the execution of the enemies of his chosen people, Israel. If a Jew disobeyed God, he was also executed by his own people or by God himself as a law. When the Israelites were occupying the lands of Canaan, they were ordered by God to kill all the natives in those lands including women and children. Capital punishment has a place in our present societies too.

  • Punishment should fit the crime; murder and rapists should be hanged. No murderer who has been executed has ever killed again. What is inhumane is the planned and deliberate murder of an innocent person. Murder cases rises when capital punishment is not used.

  • @merc800 We are not all Christians; some of us are Muslims, Hindus, traditionalist, atheists and pagans. Your self righteous convictions should not be forced on us. That is why there should be a separation of church and state. I think a person forfeits the right to be treated as human being the moment they commit a premeditated murder. It might not bring back a loved one but it might deter same crime and prevent another family suffering the same fate.

  • My arguments are not based on my religious belief, sir, but on what many people believe is wrong. Yes, killing someone is wrong but two wrongs don't make a right and by killing someone else it won't solve the problem. We need to find ways on how to prevent murders before they actually happen.

FYI: No European country use capital punishment anymore.

I am in favor of life imprisonment to death penalty.

  • @Merc800 You invoked the lord in your earlier comments. Case and Point Matheri; nobody is talking about him anymore. Justice was swift and instance and a lot of lives were saved. China, Singapore, Indonesia and most Arab countries have the best and effective capital punishment. This tends to indicate that the death penalty is a deterrent, but only where execution is a virtual certainty. The only is injustice the victim and the right is getting rid of the perpetrator of the crime permanently.

  • Don't forget many innocent people have been hanged in ALL those countries you have mentioned there. You should also know how justice work in Kenya--- the rich guilty walks scot free while the poor innocent are sent to prison.

  • Im talking about premeditated murder and aggravated rape after culprits are found guilty beyond reasonable doubt. In your quest to save the few innocent lives we are create more murderers and rapists. System will not reform by avoiding harsh penalties for crimes committed. That is why Tourist tend to do the things they would not normally do in their respective countries like rape little girls in Mombasa. In Europe they are law abiding citizens but in Kenya they become predators of little girls.

  • the one time official government hangman and let to die in poverty

  • Michael worked 4 the govt but he really passed away a poor fellow. These are the effects of corruption in a govt that does not care abt its citizens. They are so obsessed with power that they would even set murderers free for their own political greed.ikiplagat1, you seem to have a heavy heart for kikuyus but these corrupt leaders encourage hatred among community so as they go on surviving. We should punish the crime committed but not checking first who committed the crime.

  • Death Penalty should be abolished once and for all - it is inhumane and retroggresive. In this 22nd Century death penalty should be a thing of the past.

  • Merc800: Society has the highest interest in preventing murder, it should therefore use the strongest punishment available to deter murder, and that is the death penalty. If murderers are sentenced to death and executed, potential murderers will think twice before killing for fear of losing their own life. Late Mike (RIP) was right, after all!

  • USA has the highest murder rate in the world despite death penalty, so why is death penalty not deterring murderers in US or Jamaica another country with high rate of homicide despite death penalty??? Death penalty does not deter people from killing, these killers what they need is reformation and rehabilitation. Infact countries that do not have death penalty have the least murder rates.

  • Yes. However, in 1973 Isaac Ehrlich made an analysis which showed that for every inmate executed, 7 lives were saved because others were deterred from committing murder, child rape and violent robberies! Note too Merci once a killer or a rapist, u always be one!

  • you are right US leads in death penalty. Texas killed more people in the US than all 49 states put together. Yes, death penealty does not deter killing, however, some crimes are too henious to have people reform. Google these serial killers and tell me if you could reform them. Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Henry lee Lucas, Osama bin Laden,Charles Cullen.....Crime increases when a countries social structure breaksdown. Africas' crime rate will shoot up in future.

  • @Merc800 That's a ridiculou statement, USA is absolutely nowhere near the highest homicide rate. If you remove inner-city blacks from that statisitc it become aligned with most OECD countries (who also have strict gun laws). When the death sentence was removed in the states for two years in the 70s homocide rate doubled. It has slowly been decreasing since. A public university study found every executed person saved 5 lives, every commuted person cost 5 lives. That is looking at pure statistics.

  • @habibi1213 I'm really curious what exact statistics you're talking about. I'm pretty sure they don't exist.

the "deterrent effect" of the death penalty is a myth. ever heard of the story of albert pierrepoint (last british hangman) and james henry corbitt? they knew each other, he knew about pierrepoint's job. anyways, he committed a murder and was later hanged by him. after retirement pierrepoint said "deterrence" in fact never worked and death penalty achieved nothing...nothing but revenge.

  • Tell that to a victim whose family member has been brutally raped or murdered. You are a disgrace and very insensitive to the victim because it has never happened to you. I wish all rapists and murderers would only target people who don't believe in capital punishment. Then brutally rape them and murder them. That is the only way you can understand what is at stake. Being a loud mouth human activist from your safe confines does not expose you to the dangers and problems this predators pose.

  • How do you know it has never happened to me? eh? I believe vengeance is of the Lord. By killing the murderer it will not bring you love one back to life again. It will only make you feel better.

Some people don't plan to kill and they can reform if given a chance.

And if they are killers just lock them away for life but don't apply death penalty.

There is a dedicated organisation already campaigning across the globe against death penalty called "Abolish Capital Punishment now"!

  • Merc800 as far as locking prisoners..look at these statistics. The state of Carlifonia spends a whooping $10billion on prisoners. That is the entire budget of Kenya. On prisoners!!!!. Most of these prisoners suffer from recidivism. they are jailed, let loose on good conduct and then they commit a crime again. God respects authority. Jesus said give God what his and Ceasar what is his. When a country inflicts the death penalty, God respects that institution & decision. i respect ur opinion though

  • Advertise the job...see how many applicants are willing to do it!

  • There are many killers roaming the streets of kenya today after 2007 - 2008 election violence. Many of them are Kalenjins militia and Muingiki gangs as wells as the Talibans from Nyanza. We need to restore the death penalty without further delay! A somali should be chosen to do the job!

  • you forgot jinkororo from Kisii, Osavinya Mkamba and the Meru mad boys...and by the way, kales never operate on the streets stealing like kikuyus...they are only a defensive force, not an offensive one

  • lol. If that's the case, the bad guys should be made to pay! You know who..

  • All societies are defensive...until threatened then they go on the offensive! It is standard procedure to all civil human beings....and most animals too.

  • Mungiki are offensive or defensive?

  • yu will have to go ask them that

  • Tell that to Kreigler and waki..or the UN for that matter.
