  • This, right here, is my favorite jazz song EVER. These guys are so good at what they do, it's insane. I might give this song a shot on drums at some point...seems like a nice challenge.

  • That is how smooth jazz is done.

  • So this is where cool cats come from.

  • LOL, observe Jeff Kashiwa's goofy dance at 0:18

  • 3:25 to 3:40 is some of the sweatiest, saltiest, hot and heavy music I've ever heard in my life. I love it!

  • The MAGNIFICENT Kim Stone on Bass! :-)

  • Sweet.

  • this is one the best bands in history. i wish that they would continue to perform at this level

  • I learned some of my best drumming to this band... The style is great and its great for kids to listen to!! All I want is a sweet car and cruise the open road blasting The Rippingtons

  • all you can say is kim stone is the best

  • That bass is awesome at 5:03

  • awesome!!!solo....

  • @smithforthphd Really? "Provoking a irl faceoff" how mature of you :)) get a grip lad.

  • @smithforthphd Seriously? I praise a song I like and thats a response to it? "Upset with with your language?" Grandma is that you? Get a grip dude. Welcome to the land of free expression.

Oh and about the "submissive girl" part ... having mommy issues? fnarr fnarr...

  • Wikkiddd...Basslineeee \o/

  • jeff kashiwa was my funk n groove instructor in seattle at shoreline community college. great guy.

  • jeff kashiwa was my funk n groove instructor in seattle at shoreline community college in seattle WA. great guy.

  • The whole song is musical orgasm!

  • About the clapping...it's on 2 and 4....

  • @TheHonBun that shit cracks me up...1 and 3, its too much

  • ONE 2 THREE 4 hahahahaha

  • @marsdemartini clapping on the beat too. how... caucasian.

  • @nathan87 what are they supposed to do? sitting there like statues, pretending as they are not having fun?

  • @hakanerken clap on the off beat for a start. Before you ask, yes, I'm white.

  • BEST!

  • This just makes me think I'm driving around in my car with my best friend having a good time and nothing else matters

  • I too first heard The Rippingtons as bumper music on the weather channel and it took me a while to figure out who that was playing, but when I did it was smooth jazz for me from then on. I also have somewhere between ten and fifteen of their CD's.

  • The first time I heard "The Rips" I was there biggest fan and have been since 1985 and have met all of them on many occasions. Kim is great to hang out with. They have been my favorite group thru all these years and will always be, I mean how can you improve on perfection???

  • Rippingtons? More like Ripping tunes, amirite?

I remember meeting my first wife at a rippingtons concert, we both heard them for the first time on the Weather Channel and loved them ever since. Well my first wife passed on from a tragic auto accident, but when I listen to the smooth sounds of the Rippingtons it reminds me of the good times that I used to have with her.

Also how can Kenny G possibly say bad things about these guys? They are better than he ever was.Jealousy I think.

  • @xnightofragex yeah i agree that crap kenny g was sayin was just completly untrue rippingtons 4 life

  • @xnightofragex yeah i agree that crap kenny g was sayin was just completly untrue rippingtons 4 life

  • @xnightofragex Was it a weather related accident?

  • Sometimes I blast the Rippingtons and watch the people who walk down the street stare in contempt, but you know what? IT"S THE FUCKING RIPPINGTONS! I DON"T CARE WHAT THEY SAY RIPPINGTONS 4 LIFE, I AM DOWN TIL I DIE!This is what musical perfection sounds like, and Kenny G has no right to shittalk them whatsoever, fuck kenny G the rippingtons are 100 times better.

Special tanks to francesco per avermi fatto conoscere i RIPPINGTONS!! good music, good time...

  • Music to be on hold to.

  • Slick, nice melodies, cool chord changes, great arrangement, pretty song. I prefer stuff with a little more edge and improve though i.e. Michael Brecker "Some Skunk Funk" .

  • I bought an mp3 player just for their music, so much good stuff, I might add some others artists that are my favorites later LOL......many years of great music Thanks Rippingtons

  • excellent!!!

  • My dad had this concert on CD I swear he listened to it everyday.

  • They strike a perfect balance between classic jazz, smooth jazz, rock and pop. What a band!

  • Music to buy a Lexus.

  • Awesome song from my favorite band.

  • I've been digging this album since it came out. I'm a bass player and I must have played this one song twenty times before I continued on to the last three. I knew there was a video on VHS somewhere but I couldn't find it. Anyone know if it's on DVD?

  • Bad-ass Song the Ripp are the best..

  • kim stones bass groove at the beginning is killer!

  • wooooow Jeff kashiwa is such amazing sax player!!!!

  • awesome.like that music.wanna to buy all the CD s

  • ooooooooooooooooooooohhhh!!!! Get Down!

  • incredible music. remember... as much as we... are shall we say... irritated... by those who would insult the musical integrity of this kind of work, we must remember that we are far above calling them the no-brain idiotic automatons that they are and simply ENJOY:-)

  • i think iv seen Live in LA. like 400 times not even lying i would watch over and over then i was i kid.

  • I wish people wrote music like this today. i am so disappointed in my generation. im 24 years old and i play drums to this band everyday. if i were to pick up a girl and drive her in my car while the rippingtons was on, she'd laugh at me. but if kayne west was on, it would be ok? whats wrong with people today?

  • Kim Stone is the man!!

  • I saw them at the Caravan of Dreams in downtown Fort Worth, TX. SImply mind-blowing. Please come to Texas again!

  • Saw this lineup in Seattle. Best time I ever had. Got my pics taken with some of the members.

  • Kim Stone ~ smokin' !!!

  • Kim Stone ~ smokin' !!!

  • This version of the Ripp's has deepest group "soul" and largest group "personality" out of any of their lineups. They had the magic. When their drummer Tony left, it seems like they lost a lot. Not that they're not great now, they were at their pinnacle in the early 90's

  • One of my absolute favorites of the rippingtons. Amazing musicians, I'm fortunate to have seen them live in New York.

  • i thinnk bass player is so good at what his doin! nice song enjoy it

  • That's Kim Stone playin that Bass ... He's one og the primary reasons I loved Spyro-Gyra! - Man, we need more groups like this who play songs that make people happy an get people on their feet ... Dance ... Move ... feel the Power and let it Groove!

  • One of the best songs of this band.

    With a great bass solo...

    NBdrums

  • hell yes. Kim stone is a beast.

  • Classic Rips in their prime!

  • got to find cd they sound great

  • awesome music....... Jeff Kashiwa has an awesome tone on that sax........ great feeling too

  • whery nice alto-saxophone

  • That bass player is one of the best.....Goes by the name of KIM STONE!!! He was the first bass player for Spyro Gyra...........

  • oh my...that bass solo was pretty sick, a bit too many ghost notes for my taste, but still pretty sick...the guy with the keytar just made the whole thing 20 times cheesier than it already was. what the fuck was he thinking!?

  • Man, my dad used to play this back in the early 90's and it still grooves just as hard today... and that bass solo? no words...

  • This band raises the groove bar as high as it can go!

  • anyone that thinks this isn't bad ass is mentally ill and musically ignorant.

  • Thanks to those that comment on the music. And screw the superficial lame asses that can only bash hair styles. Our world has created some sick one sided people. Close your EYES and OPEN your EARS! That's what this is ALL about.

  • @HouseOfGroove

    uhm...i like ur music..its so cool...hmmmmmmmmmm

  • @HouseOfGroove The hair and dancing are not as gay as this song....

  • @HouseOfGroove thank you..

  • que chido video

  • I made The Rips rich.

  • You bought 10 copies of every album?

  • lovin' the choreographed routine at 3:57...

    xD

  • I get energy from this track, you rule Russ

  • I BET THIS IS THE SONG THAT JENNIFER ANISTON DANCES NEKKED TO.

Dayng, the bass kicks. Dat shit is tight.

    These dudes are STUDS.

  • Good stuff! Always a pleasure to listen to ;-) Thanks for posting!!

  • Great video!!!! Thsi is one of the Rippingtons BEST ALBUMS! Rippingtons Forever!!

  • say is there any DVD version of this whole concert? I can only seem o find VHS versions of it on ebay and amazon...

  • o0mg that is just real music ! these days rihanna and all that stuff thats not music thats cumputer this is with instruments ! ........... Long Live Real Live Real Jazz Music !!! ........... thnx for posting dbh and i agree with ( my bourbon he is sooo rite......

  • sax player absolutely rips, omg

  • I love how these guys always look so happy and pumped up when they play in all of these live videos...it really brings out the energy in their powerful music...I really like Jeff Kashiwa's alto sound, it's fat, powerful and sweet!

  • That is not his website. That is the website of the program he used to convert the video. It is a free version of the program which therefore puts the website address up automatically. Sure hope your toes taste good, lol. Next time think before you speak.

  • Argument still holds. It screws up the video. Next time, look before you patronize. Don't understand the toe reference. Is that American "humor"?

  • Try and understand. He used a free program to convert the video. By doing so, the program that he used automatically placed the website address up. He had no control over it. Now, if you cant deal with that, you dont have to watch it. In my opinion, it doesnt screw up the video, the video is still very watchable and listenable. For you to call him a tosser is uncalled for. As for my toe remark, use your brain, its not that difficult to understand. Thank you dbh for posting this video.

  • Try to understand. I'm sure DBH is a wonderful person. But the video benefits from NOT HAVING THE MESSAGE IN THE MIDDLE. It's not that difficult to understand.

  • This is my last word on this subject. Take a look around and you will see that YOU are the only one complaining. And I see that it is either 1 of 2 reasons. Either you are mad because you cant copy and sell the video, or you are just a kid looking for an argument. Either way, I feel sorry for you. For the rest of us, the video is very watchable and very listenable. Your petty argument is no longer worth my time. Again, much thanks to dbh for this. And dont pay any attention to this guy.

  • I've seen a version of this video on Youtube before without the banner. This video is available on the DVD that you get when you buy the Rippingtons 20th Anniversary CD available from their website.

  • Kim Stone = BEAST!!!!!!

  • wow....

  • this is my kind of music.Beautiful music.

  • i know i love this music why cant music sound as good as this today

  • Jeff Kashiwa was a gos-like with the saxo!!!! Russ Freeman:a genious!

  • Working for Dean Markley Strings had the chance to be back stage and talk with Russ Freeman, Truly a down to earth guy with sooooo much talent in just his little finger....the guy is real and great!!!

  • I played at Sunfest and I got to see them live and meet them all. They are all really cool guys! Jeff is really good!

  • We never completely view and analyize Russ or Kims riffs due to the poor selection of video angles. The essence of this band is that slick original sound that makes you think Rippingtons/California. I met Kim Stone. He is a very humble and genuine person. Quite a gifted bassist. Go to Mark King on YouTube and witness his solo. King was the original slap bassist.

  • I talked with jeff kashiwa for 20 seconds after a concert.. god damn.. that was gold.

  • I love Marienthal & Kashiwa...but Brandon Fields is my favorite w this band....He is the one and only with the Ripps...

    Paul Taylor...an error...He sucks......

  • Always luved this Band...Jeff K. rips on that AX!

  • kim stone, bass, coolest cat of them all!!!see you fellows again at the tangiers.

  • No hay nada como los Rippingtons: sabor a menta, a sol y mar... sublime y picaro; descongestionante y energizante, pero sobre todo, de ¡MUY BUEN GUSTO! Arriba el jazz contempo!!!!!

  • The mullets are my second favorite part of this video after Jeff Kashiwa's dance moves.

  • mullets should be illegal. love the rippingtongs though

  • The only bad thing about the Rippingtons in these series of clips is that they all went to the same hairdresser and got those goddam mullet hairstyles. Other than that, the Rippingtons are da bomb!!! :)

  • Oh my god, so great. I wish i could have as much fun as Jeff Kashiwa does in any aspect of my life. They're playing gives me such a raging BROner

  • Jeff Kashiwa...damn. He should've stayed with them, but his solo albums are okay. The Rippingtons will always be the best. Big Sky, Rain, and Tourist In Paradise? Come on, can't be beat.

  • superb! I wish I had been there

  • Russ and these guys have been at the top of the jazz game for years. What talent! Jeff and Steve were always a blast to watch live and Kim's bass solo in this show is simply UN-BELIEVABLE!!! Thanks for all the great music, Ripps, and keep it coming!

  • This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

  • They're now my heroes...with mullets. Haha.

  • Awesome, I saw the video with Jeff playing the EWI and wanted to find more. Who is that bass player? That was one crazy solo!

  • Kim Stone...he's so cool, awesome live!!

  • I was fortunate enough to have caught this tour at the Concord Pavilion in California. The Ripps were performing with the best of the "Best of the Best" at that time. I didn't know who they were before the show. They blew everyone else that perfomed that day off the stage. It was evident by the crowds reaction. Russ, bring back the dymanic boys from the day!!! You were unparalled and untouchable then. Jazz needs to have the juice back again!!!

  • the Best of the BEST

  • Para capazz y CHEKO1111, si no lo han oído, busquen música de Nelson Rangell, especialmente el CD, Destiny, de hecho el ha grabado varios números para los Rippingtons.

  • Musically do not seem or like to be on 1992 or before, the influence of modern sax era (Marienthal,Rangell, Sanborn), is very notorious on Kashiwa.

  • Jeff Kashiwa is awsome man. The only think I didn't like was the keyboard player. Why the hell are you going to play brass on your keyboard if you have horn section already doing that? but besides that he did great.

  • Saw him last Thursday in Alexandria, Va.

They were awesome but it appears that they're relying more on computers than ever.

    Still KICKIN' though.

  • I think both sax players fit well in this music. The thing is Jeff uses more the Tenor ,at least in his solo albums, and is more an EWI player than Eric is.

    Both Fantastic.Incredible band.

    What 'you guys think?

  • They have been 'rippin' it up for 25 years now, and give you your money's worth if you are lucky enough to see them perform. How about another 25 years, guys?

  • Couldn't have any less to do with real music if it tried.

  • sorry dude but no matter how much you trash "real music" green-day will always suck

  • haha

  • Kim Stone adds the funkiest touch to an already jammed up band!! Steve Reid is the greatest at percussion, and Jeff Kashiwa jazzes it up with that sexy sax playin'!! Russ, PLEASE bring the bamd back to 'Bama real soon !!!

  • They are great but Kashiwa hasn't been with them for quite a while.

  • I know, they replaced him with Eric Marienthal the last time I saw them live, which was a few years ago..

  • He's with them now. Just saw them in Orlando, July 28 07

  • good!

  • I think it's pathetically funny when audiences with no sense of rhythm clap along with bands on the wrong beat, or off the beat, so you get this jumble-fuck mess of a ffwap sound. As you can see at 1:52 they are clapping on 1 & 3. Then finally they figure out that the snare hits are actually on 2 & 4 at 3:30. GEEZ...IDIOTS!!

  • Talent is a gift and the sense of where the up or down beats sit is for us music people to care about. Those non rhythmic people pay our bills and enjoy us. Let it be.

  • Russ Freeman, Jeff Kashiwa, Kim Stone, and the whole band just rips!!!

  • Totally!

  • Jeff Kashiwa

  • thank you! love his sound! he rocks! and he gets the crowd fired up

  • who's the sax player?

  • FRICKEN FLAWLESS!!!! This same performance can be heard on their Live In L.A. album! I don't see how mullets were cool back then! But gawd!! I wish I could have seen them back in those days! :( ...and don't forget about Paul Taylor!

  • i seen em in K.C. in 92' before Weekend in Monaco came out,we were the first crowd to hear it live, they were awesome that was the best ripps lineup ever

  • Russ Freemann And The Rippingtons Live I Saw Them A Year And Half Ago In The Pageant In The Loop In St.Louis Missouri Me And My Wife Love These Guys #1 In Smooth Jazz!! #21

  • Oh my God in Heaven, this music makes me feel soooo happy!!! This whole band is so f***kin' tight!!!

I wish these guys would regroup and tour my way again

  • My feelinggs exactly!!

  • I love the Rippingtons. Thank you for posting this. Good performance by Jeff Kashiwa.

  • This is so cool, thx folk for this
