you need to get the pwage tool first then go to itunes do the upgrade, when ask to backup click yes wait like 4 minutes untill the new upgrade is up in ur iphone after that open ur pwnage tool click on iphone is going to ask for the firmaware on ur iphone if u do not have it don't worry they will send u to the website to download de firmware 3.9 o 4.6 after that click general or follow the video from this guy is prety good i did mine

I believe you can't just unlock the iPhone. To unlock you have to jailbreak the iPhone.
