Went to see Marty at the Bureau County Fair in Princeton, Illinois back around 1990. Went into the Wendy's to get a quick meal before-hand and who was I standing right behind but Marty! Nicest guy, talked to us about the show and then when we came out he was there in the parking lot to sign a couple of autographs for us.
Amen to that. Halfway through the show in Zurich, Marty picked up a mandolin and he was pickin' for atleast 5 minutes on his own, with nobody backin him up.
I was in heaven. I mean, I know he's a great picker, but to listen and watch him live, that's something else.
Merle's part in this song inspired me to add a yodeling chorus to my version of Lonesome Whistle, since the melodies are identical. I'll post it on my channel soon.
A fine song with, I think, the most iconic country music lick ever played. Listen to the steel and fiddle at the ends of both bridges, particularly the second one.
Burn your cities, save your farms and your cities will grow back as if by magic. Burn your farms, and grass will grow in the streets of every city in America" William Jennings Bryan 1897
Great, simply great. They took Hank's "I Heard That Lonesome Whistle Blow" (even quoted some of the words), and made it something new and just as good. No BS, no overblown Hollywood glitz, just a great song and some real images.
@ALLEN0955 It sure is nice to see somebody appreciate us and all the hard work instead of complaining about what we do, We don't get hardly any thanks anymore and this is one farmer that wanted to give you a big Thank You for your comment!
Two great musicians singing a beautiful song!
