Wow that was pretty surrial advertising. Hulk smashing though a sheet of paper, Spiderman sliding down a string (I used to do that with my He-Man figures, infact any figure with the right hand shape will do :) ). Then Superman joining the airforce.
MEGO's demise was actually due in part to their turning down the license for Star Wars, favoring instead Star Trek: The Motionless Picture and The Black Hole, which it seemed the company was sucked into, appropriately enough. Now companies like Mattel and Biff Bang Pow! are doing new MEGOesque figures for any and all thrity and fortysomethings who never got the memo that the 1970s ended, along with childhood.
@epsteinsmutha1 It's strange nobody thought to remake The Black Hole yet,of everything else they remade. The brand itself never reached its marketing potential.
They were not bendys, these were fully-articulated figures with cloth costumes, much like the original G.I. Joe was before they were reduced to 3 3/4" and became stiff! Action-figures were much more posable in these days before Star Wars revolutionized the market by making everything in miniature scale.
They had no marketability or play value. However, in recent years, figures of Lois Lane and Commissioner Gordon were produced for collectors. *Chief O'Hara is not a DC Comics licence, but a character created by 20th Century Fox Television for the Batman 1966 TV series.
I had... Spidey, BM, Spock... I know... uh lets see... Shazam? Captain America! Favorite. I never really like Spider Man's head... he had no chin... still have Hulk somewhere...
ah this reminds me of pretending on the kindergarten playground, of course at the time the only superheroes i new about were superman, batman, spiderman, hulk, robin, wonder woman, captain america, the flash, aquaman, & wolverine (i was always superman).
I remember having a difficult time overcoming the fact the Hulk was supossed to be huge, but the action figure was smaller than all the others. :( I was mortally disappointed.
@RedRanger2001 I think it would have been better is him and Robin had coloured arms that matched their gloves as they would be able to grips things with them, Batman has all kinds of gadgets but he wouldn't have been able to hole them because of the gloves hindering him.
@nightslash3535 ...and they'd probably still be around if they hadn't have passed on doing the Star Wars action figures..can you imagine being the knob who made THAT brilliant decision!!??
Mego Action figures and dolls where made in Colombia in the mid-80s. I used to have Mego Pocket Superheroes of Batman, Superman, Aquaman and Spider-Man. Somebody knows more about this issue?
they wont let me play with them. and i was like if someone said that to me and i was superman id punch em in the face then id grab one and id run as fast as flash he can but he fights air friction so he would destroy everything he ran past and someone would be like angermanaement classes first day free
Never had the toys as was born later, but love these commercials!!I think clothes-not-fitting well that was the style (yeah that's what they said!)....like the action man toys of the era.
Yeah. I think though companies don't WANT to pay to both comic companies. That or the Comic companies want to be in competition rather than work together and want to out profit each other
i felt so nostalgic i actually went and found almost every mego super hero action figure i used to have . great to display and you would not believe how many people go " man i had those!!!" or " you want to sell those?" lots of memories.
Those were the days. Had 'em all! :)
