  • I'm amazed by his voice and ashamed that I didn't know him before though he's a "compatriot" of mine. I sing classical, too and I'm so impressed by the airiness of his voice's sound!

    Magnificent!

  • I liked your video very much.

  • I liked your video very much.

  • I liked your video very much.

  • That is Michael Maniaci, playing Nireno...

  • Is that michael maniaci next to him??

  • @Guichotpresident

It is Michael Maniaci, in the role of Nireno...

  • @tkgsingsct what a cast, what a cast....

  • Love him!

  • Andreas is divine. As I noted elsewhere, I would marry him in a heartbeat!! Never mind that is already married and has a daughter!

  • Orientaliszt, I think no one had the intention to present a historic presice play.

Would be difficult, because non stage director has been present at this time.

This is all phantasie, based on historical facts. And the production must be changed. Or would you like to see an old production from the 18 century ? I dont.

Opera must go on, and we have to accept changes, as long the music is still the same and remains untouched everthing is perfect.

    Enjoy Händels fine music.

  • Sorry amonasro100, transposing the baroque imbroglio into the contemporary world, is the topic of my critic not Haendel music itself. Jules Cesar opera depict the brother and the sister, Ptolémée and Cléopâtre, quarrel piercingly the Pharaonic power and the favours of the Roman occupant. What we see here is a poor adaptation of the historial context. It is not enough to distribute kalachnikovs to the extras to depict the confrontation in the heart of the Middle East of rival imperialisms.

  • Andreas Scholl - needless to say something about his great performance. Best violin player too.

But i don't love this kind of "modern" productions. Costumes, stage-outfit are strange to me.

  • @LifeforArt I tend to agree with you sir. they should have asked the Roman costumes from HBO's ROME series... :-) and adopt a pyramid like setting r the great beacon of the ancient Alexandria port which was the capital of Egypt at that time. nevertheless their performance is excellent. :-)

  • @Angelos1975GR

that's a funny comment about HBO, HILARIOUS!

  • He's counter tenor, he sings with the head voice, every man can use this technic.

  • It's fun that the violinist got to be on stage with Scholl, instead of just being off to the side somewhere. Makes the "competition" between the two more fun.

  • Yes, that is a good staggin technic, it makes everything more fun and lightens the mood.

  • The batton of Mortensen is simply masterly. >Listen how gentle, easy and elegant the music is presented.

If you listen to other presentation you may

    feel the difference.

  • Великолепное исполнение!!! Потрясающий дуэт!!! Непревзойденная музыка!!! Браво Andreas Scholl !!!!! Огромное приогромное спасибо за ваше видео!!!

  • Bravissimo, the sublime Scholl!!!

  • If you like Andreas. Check out Michael Maniaci's performance as well, he's the guy in the blue outfit in this video. Fantastic countertenor as well.

  • OH, MY GOD, ALSO...Scholl has just become my favorite countertenor!

  • Oh my god, this is just awesome!

  • Andreas voice and the violin sound are out of this world

  • :'(

    Awesome..

    Thx

  • This captivated my mom when I showed it to her ... :-)

  • AWESOME!!!! And the staging is aswell awesome!!!

  • A great many thanks for sharing this video! It's absolutely superb and great fun too! Do you know if it's available anywhere?

  • Augellino!

  • I love the artistry and the humour. There's nobody like Scholl! And I agree .the violinist is great. This is the very best DVD of Handel's "Giulio Cesare"

    Rosalinda Ramos

  • hahaha they're so good!:D

  • yeah! They are so good!

I am so amazed and moved by their performance.

The interaction between each part is just impeccable.

  • My sentiment precisely! Although, may I add, and I know this forum concentrates on the vocal, BUT not many may realize how exceptional that violinist is. To play with such expressiveness so as to blend with the operatic cast (as opposed to part of the orchestra)? it's like she and her violin are talking! I also tip my hat to the stage director who must have arranged this to happen.

  • yeah! I totally agree! she is amazing!

In my point of view, Violin represents the sound of sing bird. Is this so stupid to say? Not sure... it is just totally IMO. :)

  • It's absolutely a bird. :)

But because Cesare and the bird in hiding keep answering to each other, it can be presented as a kind of rivalry between the voice and the violin. This kind of contests was popular at that age, correct me if I'm wrong. (In the movie Farinelli you can see one between F and a trombone.)

  • It's my favourite part in the whole thing. I love the violinist. (The singer's not bad either...)

  • On a scale of one to ten, how stupid do I look when I forget to post the video response?

  • I meant to ask, but then I found the video anyway... :)

  • I'll be posting Andreas' performance (from Giulio Cesare) at the Royal Danish Opera's open air concert too - but for now, here's Tuva Semmingsen wow'ing the 50.000 people strong audience with a bit of Rossini :)
