@FirePheonix111 i think it's kind of a waste for this style: this year we didn't use ANY tarp at all and it worked the same (we just stay aware of which way the water would drain) our new video will be out for this year soon
this is the coolest thing ever! I have always wanted to ice skate and I never would have thought that u can really, in real life make a rink in your backyard! That is just soooooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What area do ya guys live in? It some place really cold up north or are ya in PA or something (cuase i saw ya wearing a stealers cap in one of your videos). I just wondering cuase i live in Delaware and im wondering if my weather is cold enough to try this.
@shaqdaddy11 we live in Bangor, Maine, so it's pretty serious winter most years (not as cold as northern maine, it's crazy cold up there...) we've been trying to figure out how warm it can be for a rink: You guys are getting rain and 50 degrees this week, but up here it's just in the 30's, so the ice is still good in the mornings, till about 11:30 (then it gets too soft in the sun) But I think you can do a rink during the coldest weeks, especially if your yard or driveway's flat and in the shade
@unclejohnthezef Yeah i tried t experiment with ice (took a food tray and put it outside with water in it, it half froze on one of the 20 degree nights). But then temp went to 30s n it started to melt. My back yard is at a bit of a slant but to much. No she at all though. I figured ill build up the rink structure next yr and we are bound to get atleast a week of 20 degree weather. So maybe it can work.
@shaqdaddy11 i'm still not sure for warmer places, tarp vs no tarp: if you make ice right on hard ground (like a driveway) it can be real thin: ice on a tarp can also be real thin (maybe just 2 or 3 inches if the ground is pretty hard, although 4 or 5 would be better if possible) this week (march 13) we've had monsoon rains and 48 degree weather, and the ice is melting fast, but it never turns to a pool (it just runs off down the hill) each way has some drawbacks: good luck next year!!
@sonnelism I want kids just so i can have an excuse for doing stuff like this and not have the neighbours say "what is that crazy man doing". See cause when you got kids then you can just say "im doing it for the kids".
Your videos are so amazing, I really enjoyed the 2009 version, I keep singing... "Just slide down the slide... my name is Gunther my name is Gunther... " I love the band.
I enjoyed all your ice rink building videos. Thanks.
I would suggest starting your zamboni from the other side of the yard as not to paint yourself into a corner and to keep the hose off the areas you've already done.
will the ice rink tarp really help that much or is it a waste of money?
