Why make a review with a conclusion that compares headphones that are made for different purposes, against each other as if they belonged to the same category? It makes no sense at all to think about DJ headphones for casual listening! It's just wrong! DJ headphones are heavily tuned up to be used on loud environments. The Shure 750 DJ are excellent DJ headphones by the way, even standing up to the Pioneer HDJ-2000.
@drgnrc13 I am confused between ATH-ws55i , ATH-m50 , Shure 840s .I listen to all genres of music but more inclined to metal and rock.Which one to go for?
@subbinblazer iPhone/iPod as far as i know, doesn't even go high quality enough for this headset, you could get cheaper headsets, same sound, cause the thing you are using doesn't use the headsets full potential, you need high-end sound quality equipment for these to sound good, maybe try a Bose headset, for pure comfort and great iPod and Laptop sound...... Try eBay not retail stores sometimes it's half the price, but if you don't feel like reading detailed compairing to orig stat
@subbinblazer Yes, go to futureshop or bestbuy or some place that you can try different ones that arn't for professional sound equipment, when you like one, if you want a better deal, go to google and type in (Shopping comparison YourCountry) and search it at a few of those sites, research the cheapest sites reputation on youtube and google, than check eBay, eBay tells you user ratings on sellers.... so only get trusted ones.... and buy it now, unless you are into bidding
@jx454es Beats by dre studio are rubbish they too bassy its like its got a low pass filter built in and the highs just go missing. The best beats by dre Is beats pro but they are over priced.
@mgveja Depends on what you want out of a set of headphones. Both are great in their own right. If you want sound that is remains true to the original recording (very clear and defined throughout the full range of sound) with just a slight increase in bass, get the SRH840's. If you want similar sound, but with brighter highs and punchier lows, the M50's are perfect for you. Personally, I went with the 840's to facilitate the wide variety of music I listen to on a daily basis.
@mgveja Oh and couple more differences to keep in mind are that the M50's are lighter, but many people say the 840's are more comfortable; and the 840's have a detachable cable that can be easily replaced, which the M50's do not.
@Jojojojof yeah they were on sale i wanted them so bad but i got some sennheisers instead a few weeks earlier and i couldnt return them cause i bought them from a best buy 700 km away and there was no best buy in my town to return them to! Im so pissed.
@bcballer13 I have other Sennheisers and they are still good... Trust me, if your Sennheiser's are anywhere near as good as these, the comfort is worth it.
@jonsonsam They are quite uncomfortable, they take a bit of time to get used to, your ears will sweat quite a bit (sounds weird). They get really hot in your ears and you will need to air your ears out, they're also really heavy.
hey, got a question here...which one is the best headphone for studio monitoring and mixing between the shure srh840 and the audio technica ath-m50???im looking for a headphone for monitoring and mixing which my music characteristics start from rock, metal, blues and sometime a lil bit to dubstep...i have tested the audio technica ath-m50 but didn't get the chance to try out shure srh840...so i need a great opinion for which headphone should i grab between this two...
Im a Heavy Metal drummer looking for a pair of Noise canceling headphones that I can use to jam with tunes on my drum kit and use them for regular basis as well but I dont want to pay 300-400$ worth of headphones that arent really good any sugestions?
@KindaKevin The headphones he mentioned which were the more balanced (Shure SRH440) are great. I'm a drummer, too, and even when you're hitting the crash really hard, and when your ear is really close to the hi-hat, it's still pretty quite. I'm thinking of buying these to replace my ATH-M50s, which have great bass but recessed mids. I plan on using these unamped on my iPod Classic - will they sound better than my M50s? Thanks!
Are the SRH840 good for portable use? Been reading reviews saying how they are really heavy compared to some other headphones and how the cable might get in the way since its really long
Very good review, it was quite technical but explained everything a noob like me needed to know. Plus I think you just convinced me to buy the 840's...yay!
@ilovesabian1n1 The SRH840 = isolating, they rely more on passive noise reduction rather than cancelling noise by generating an opposing destructive frequency to counter external noise.
Hey MacFeed, I can't seem to find your review of the Shure srh 440's. I checked your other vids and your website..Do still have that review available?
I will be listening to hip-hop and rock, I want bass, but I don't want so much bass to where its drowing out the treble. I want the bass and treble to be even, so it will sound more natural. which would you reccomend to me?
hey, i want a pari of headphones that are really professional, because im starting to get into the music bizz. i want to get the srh750dj for the bass, and for the look. But i heard it wasnt too comfortable, i want the srh840 because they are more comfortable, and the sound is neutral and more balanced, so im kinda trying to decide which one to get. help!?
@epiccbeatz The 750's are actually far better it just depends on how you wear them... If you move the top slightly back on your head the pain or rather discomfort goes away.
And they produce better sound for a better price ;)
@ziweiwu your that guy from head-fi aren't you. i tend to disagree. the m50 is good but i find it depends on what people want. the srh840 is more balanced while the m50 is more bass emphasized the srh750 is closer to the m50s but i think those 2 tie in terms of which is better. but then again to each his/her own.
Hey guys i know nemesis was asking similar questions but i was just wondering if anyone knows from person experience if these headphones produce a good sound when powered by an iphone? I have them ordered for 129 + tax but they are on back order and i can cancle whenever i want. So basically do they sound good with an iphone or should i back out and grab a pair of solo HDs for 140 right now?
would just using the 840s on an ipod do the headphones justice, or would it be better to just get cheaper headphones, like the 440s. im just 14, so i dont have access to high end equipment other then my ipod and headphones, so i dont want to waste $100 on pro headphones if i cant get better quality out of them.
Also, in terms of strong but not overwhelming bass, comfort, and durability, what would be ideal?(once again im just 14 so i dont have that much experience with this)
Do you think the wires going to the headband could be damaged in any way shape or form very easily? because my headphones go everywhere, and they take a beating sometimes.
Is it possible to use a different cable? I think having 3 metres is a little bit over the edge for me. Could I use some monster cables? or sennheiser?
can I get some recommendations for them? Something short for my ipod xD
I have one question though, I'm planning to purchase the 840's and use them during the winter time in Canada. The weather here during the winter is around -20 to -35 celcius, are there any chances that the wires could snap or the headphones? It'll normally be outside for around 30 minutes.
Also, I'm a bass type of guy, I'm usually all hip-hop/techno/dubstep! Should I consider the 750? Is it more durable in cold rather while comparing to 840?
Hi, I got the 440's and they are great. After a couple of hours they get a little uncomfortable so I heard that the cups on the 840 were way softer and more comfy. Is that true? If so, do you know where I could buy these cups online or in store in Canada? Thanks
which headset has ultimate sound isolation ? just tell me. I have gamecome 367. if you know good sound isolation headset than 367. you have to tell me.
@OoOuroborosoO wtf seriously? Yeah, they have stupid people like that everywhere actually. Sorry though and good luck on finding those headphones! They look pretty sick
@BrentLarryproduction Ops...i think u got me wrong, bro. i know they got the headphone in their store. what i talking about its the 'headphone amplifier(amp)' lol....
Music lovers, I highly recommend this hedphones, the sound is clear, rich and pristine, whether you're planning to use it just to listen to your music or as a studio recording monitor it gives excellent quality and sound.
And no, I don't work for SHURE haha, I just bought them and I was amazed by it's quality.
Im looking for a pair of decent headphones, I have a set of ear buds but i would like a set of cans for when I game on my computer or xbox, and when I have to take a long trip in a car bus or plane where ear buds would become uncomfortable, Im looking for something with a lot of bass, Its kind of my addiction with music being i play bass drum on my drumline. Would the discomfort of the 750s be worth it?
Second, I just purchased the 840's the other day and although I think they are great since most of music is hip-hop the bass didn't really wow me. How much better would you say the bass is better on the DJ's,literally want something to make my head shake
@waynemar66 ive got the studios and the 440s ive listen to the 840s the 440s are the best beats by dre are ok but i reckon sure is better in terms of sound quality
@waynemar66 ive got the studios and the 440s ive listen to the 840s the 440s are the best beats by dre are ok but i reckon sure is better in terms of sound quality or you can get the Audio Technica ATH-M50's there pretty good for the price
Does the SRH840 need an amp to reach its potential?
Yes.
Does the SRH840 need an amp to sound better than the SRH440?
No. Some people are going to prefer the more balanced response of the SRH440 anyways, the amp on either headphone won't change the SRH440 being more balanced or the SRH840 being more dynamic - so it's a personal preference. As to the 750DJ, same discussion - the 750DJ is a completely different headphone. Of the three the 750DJ needs the amp the most.

the SRH750's are the SHIT ! after 40-50 hrs. of burn in time these bad boys keep sounding better & better..not as heavy as you think , if you are thinking of picking up a set of these & maybe having second thoughts these will give you discomfort to your scrawny little neck...MAN THE FUCK UP !!...these cans are by far the best on the market..long live the 750's
@TheBrutiss Do the 750s have more bass than the beats by dr dre? Can they be used without an amp and still sound good? I have an Ipod nano/touch do you think these will sound good in my ipods?
@909nemesis I've never compared the two but it makes you wonder why are there soo many (beats by dre')
headphones on craigslist..the 750's may be too much for an ipod..the bigger the headphone the more power they consume..a quality set of in-ear headphones should do just fine..you'd be surprised how much bass they pack..first spend $10 on a set of skullcandy's & if you like 'em make the investment ;]
I got the SRH440, and they sounded amazing for $70 and felt really well built, but I had to return them because they were probably the most uncomftortable headphones I've ever worn. I'm still sad about it even now.
@PargasianDude It's definitely a personal preference. If you are in club situations, probably. The advantages to the SRH840 are going to be overwhelmed by the environment and demands of the situation. The SRH750DJs will have the advantage of the higher power capabilities and supposed durability. For us much of it comes down to comfort. Guitar Center carries both models and is very happy to let you try them on and compare.
@TheMacFeed Ok, thanks for your response! I have already bought my SRH750's now. They are absolutely amazing! I never thought that the sound quality could be THAT MUCH different from a cheap 25€ headphones to a 140€ headphones. Even one of my friends got so suprised of the supreme quality that he has also bought the same headphones as me now!! :D
I got the shure srh840's and the sennheiser ie8 in-ears and i love the 840's because of the laid back sound and rich sound it gives. The ie8's give me the bass i like with the music i like to listen to =D
@hawaiiancerveza Hey, do the 840s have more bass than the beats by dr dre? I'm looking for a new headphone and is looking for a headphone that has more bass than the beats by dr dre.
@909nemesis The bas isn't as present as the beats. The 840's are just monitor headphones. I sold mine and got the Sennheiser IE8's. Thats got BASS. I also have the denon d2000. Those also have good bass. Other people would say go for the Beyer 770 60om. I have yet to try out the beyers but a lot of ppl like them for bass heads...=) the 840 isn't for a bass head. its more for monitoring and just listening to movies.
Thank you sooooo much for doing these reviews (both text and video)!!!!!
I just started actually recording my music at home through garageband with some basic gear my brother used to use for a beginner home studio. I'm taking it more serious now so I have been looking to get some good gear.
Your review helped me so much because I couldn't decide between these two.

Hi, I got the 440's and they are great. After a couple of hours they get a little uncomfortable so I heard that the cups on the 840 were way softer and more comfy. Is that true? If so, do you know where I could buy these cups online or in store in Canada? Thanks

"average frequency response 10-10,000 hz" thats bullshit all headphones go up to at least 17,000 hz
and below 20, and above 20,000 hz is completely pointless since its out of the human hearing range
this annoys me

Music lovers, I highly recommend this hedphones, the sound is clear, rich and pristine, whether you're planning to use it just to listen to your music or as a studio recording monitor it gives excellent quality and sound.
And no, I don't work for SHURE haha, I just bought them and I was amazed by it's quality.

Thanks for a great review - how does it compare to Sony MDR-7506?

Im looking for a pair of decent headphones, I have a set of ear buds but i would like a set of cans for when I game on my computer or xbox, and when I have to take a long trip in a car bus or plane where ear buds would become uncomfortable, Im looking for something with a lot of bass, Its kind of my addiction with music being i play bass drum on my drumline. Would the discomfort of the 750s be worth it?

First off, great review guys.
Second, I just purchased the 840's the other day and although I think they are great since most of music is hip-hop the bass didn't really wow me. How much better would you say the bass is better on the DJ's,literally want something to make my head shake
Thatsmadstill 1 year ago
@Thatsmadstill They will wow. I found them much less comfortable and they really destroy other genres.

Great review, what would you recommend for an iPod? The 840's or 440? Thanks.
jharv62301 1 year ago
@jharv62301 840s. 440s are for mixing or those wanting more balanced.
TheMacFeed 1 year ago
@TheMacFeed I thought the 840s were for more advanced professional studio use? Wouldn't that mean the 840s have more balance? :/

@COSMICCARNAGES

TheBrutiss 1 year ago
@TheBrutiss Do the 750s have more bass than the beats by dr dre? Can they be used without an amp and still sound good? I have an Ipod nano/touch do you think these will sound good in my ipods?
909nemesis 1 year ago
@909nemesis I've never compared the two but it makes you wonder why are there soo many (beats by dre')
headphones on craigslist..the 750's may be too much for an ipod..the bigger the headphone the more power they consume..a quality set of in-ear headphones should do just fine..you'd be surprised how much bass they pack..first spend $10 on a set of skullcandy's & if you like 'em make the investment ;]
TheBrutiss 1 year ago
can get the 750dj's for about $80, would they be good un-amped? I listen to A LOT of electronic music..
DJPixcell 1 year ago
I got the SRH440, and they sounded amazing for $70 and felt really well built, but I had to return them because they were probably the most uncomftortable headphones I've ever worn. I'm still sad about it even now.

840's.

But is it anyway better to use the SRH750DJ if one's just gonna DJ?
PargasianDude 1 year ago

909nemesis 1 year ago

Thanks for your details and passion!
