So it's okay to bash Christianity and feel offended when God is mentioned, but it's not okay for Christains to feel offended when Bible is called a Myth?
I think the point here is not that religion is a myth but that creationism is a myth. Ken Miller is a Roman Catholic who has written books on evolution and was the star witness at the Dover trial for the plaintiffs. He definitely believes in god, but I'm sure he would agree that creationism is a myth
But Biblical Creationism IS a myth. The book is accurate. Also, it's not as if there is an entire section, or even a paragraph devoted to Creationism. It's one single entry in the glossary. Given that Creationism is such a widely believed idea of how life formed on Earth, it certainly falls under the category of being tangentially related to the study of Biology.
A man named Jesus came back from the dead and when you die you go to an undiscovered place called heaven. Sounds like a myth to me.
Myth is something that people believe in that is not proven. By definition, it is a myth. What's the problem? This is like getting offended because someone says
"that black man". Are you gonna try to ban the word black? If it's black, it's black. If it's myth, it's myth. Shut up and deal with it.
@bishonenboy Sorry, but you are completely wrong. A "theory" in science is not something that is not disproved and not provable. Perhaps that might be acceptable as a colloquial definition, but we are talking about science.
You need to actually READ a science book and learn what the word "theory" means when discussing science.
@bishonenboy I really feel no onus to do your homework for you. You're a big boy. You can do the research yourself.
Did you even try googling the words "scientific theory"? The first link you get is to the wikipedia article. That article will give you an outline of what it means to a scientist, along with citations to further reading on the subject.
If you're truly interested in LEARNING, report your findings back to me.
Wow, way to insult. FIY, I do intend to look up this oh so credible ~~Wikipedia~~ article you suggest. (A fine scientific publication.) But if you're going to call someone out, then voice your points. "Go research" isn't substantial as an argument- everyone and anyone can say that. If your going to tell me my definition is wrong then man up and give me a different one- stop beating around the bush.
The Christians can't keep their faith where it belongs, in their home, church and private places of worship. They are too short sighted to understand that one day they might be a minority faith in America and that another faith .. like Islamists for example will instead be pushing their faith in the PUBLIC classroom...
.
This man is a sad example of short sighted thinkers who fail to understand the ramifications of asking for a "book banning". What a foolish foolish man.
The man's problem isn't with religion being removed from school.
His problem is with the book stating something offensive about creationism. If your separating religion and public school then why even mention it? Much less call one theory a myth, while teaching another theory.
This debate was settled long ago. Religion has no place in public classrooms. If you want to teach your children Creationism or other mysticism's, do it privately as you have every right to do so.
.
If you don't like how your tax dollars are being used then let us join in downsizing government and pay our own bills for things we want in our own homes instead of forcing others to pay for things that we find offensive. I don't want your religion and you don't want my mine.
Why are you jumping to conclusions? Im taking no stance on weather religion should be in school or not. Im simply stating that this man isn't trying to put faith into school, its not that he "can't keep.. faith where it belongs." Instead, I'm correcting you by stating his problem is the ONLY acknowledgment of faith in the book was a stab at faith- if Creationism isn't being debated, then the mention of creationism shouldn't even be in the book- much less an undefended stab at it.
@bishonenboy maybe you are the one jumping to conclusions. You only saw one small excerpt taken from the book, out of context. How do you know it is the ONLY acknowledgment of faith in the book?
You're right, its possibly not the only acknowledgment. I based that assumption on the comments made from 2:11 to 2:30, but they don't actually suggest this passage is the only mention of Creationism. My bad.
That Said, the argument I was making still stands- The man wasn't trying to bring Creationism into the school. He was simply defending it against a cheap shot.
All I want is to be left alone from the religious but yet we have religious zealots bombing and waring all over the globe. It's time you took a hard look at your own affairs and face facts.
.
Religion is not of peace, it is of conflict and the attempt to control the very way which people think and live their lives. It doesn't matter if it is Islam, Judaism, or Christianity. All try to force their view on everyone else.
@silvereagle2061 When an atheist says to a Christian "Stop trying to legislate your personal religious beliefs on me," it's not an attack on Christianity.
As an atheist, I want nothing more than for Christians to be free to believe whatever crazy nonsense they want. That is part of having a secular government.

That author is awesome. Anyways, evolution has been proven, its still occurring and it never stops.
This guy isn't even in his position to do it, because he said "I'm not smart enough to pick that stuff up"

The bible is myth; the author is correct.

Ahhh them pesky facts are offensive to ignorant people.
If your are not a scientist then you don't get to determine what science text books should say.

Well they want creationism mentioned alongside evolution don't they??? lol Perfect way to do it, by labelling it as what it is: a biblical myth

There are ideas that can't be proved, so they remain a Theory until they can be disproved.
Creationism and Evolution are both theories
bishonenboy 1 year ago
@bishonenboy Evolution has been proven through much evidence.
Creationism is based on a few-thousand year old book that bases it's realism of supernatural powers of prophets.
shadowghx 1 year ago
Creationism = not disproved & not provable = theory
There is evidence to support Evolution, but it hasn't been definitively proven. It is still officially a Theory.
Regardless of how you or I feel about either of them.
Again, I'm not voicing a personal stance.

Weeell. You've wanted Creationism in science books for years now. There it is & from a science perspective it has been addressed "myth".
I've listened to plenty of Theology Doctorates say the same thing "Myth"
Let's skip the banning & go straight to burning books.
