Wow, how innovative - like a breath of fresh air. I used to play guitar for my mom's musicals (giti-natyo??) as a teenager, and remember doing a little arpeggio for *pran chai...* But, t I have been away for many many years now, and heavent heard it for over 2 decades. Nice to hear the same song reinvented. I am looking to buy the DVD if at all possible.

Its funny how most people dnt realize that "gurudev" himself was a copycat. Shiloranjan, who used to work with the music, took a lot of music from baul and other folk songs. The biggest example is that the tune of "Amar Shonar Bangla" is taken DIRECTLY from a baul song. So i believe therz no harm in experimenting with the copycat's music :)

@MrARUPCHOUDHURY & regarding the compositions of Tagore I hope we all keep in mind that some of his compositions were also inspired by western folksongs i.e PURANO SEI DINER KOTHA,was inspired from a SCOTISH FOLK SONG & we believe his lyrics are eternal but whats wrong in changing the music to keep it attractive.Tagore songs we're as modern as possible during his days so we should try 2preserve those eternal lyrics than to debate about the music which is cliche enough to bury the lyrics n future

SriBhargav: I see that you haven't read much of Tagore. If you have had, then you would have known how much Tagore was ahead of his times and would have loved this remixed 'Pran Chay Chokkhu na Chay". Tagore wrote about illegitimate with brother-in-law (Charulata) and with husband's friend (Ghare Baire) at an age when woman never stepped out of their interiors. He wrote about loving, but not opting for marriage (Sesher Kabita). He would have loved it that his music has crossed generations.:)

@1979antu First of all I wasn't speaking of anyone called, "Tegor"... I think being a die-hard fan of Tagore, u should at least know the spelling of his name... :).. And anyway, I don't think they changed the originality of the song. If you hear the original yourself, you'll know that all that it's in Teentaal, 16 matra... so that hasn't change. All that has been done is pepping up the song a bit with some lovely background music.
Love this song. Why are people so paranoid about remixing songs? Rabindranath himself never followed the traditional norms in composing music. He was always a rebellious composer and writer who believed in experimenting with words and tunes and perhaps that's why his compositions were way more popular than any other classical composer. Its really a great thing that the youth are remixing the old songs in their new zeal and saving the Rabindra geeti from fading away or becoming museum artifacts..

When I watched the last episode of this serial I was shocked to see that they didn't thank 2 important people behind it's success. First is Rituporno Ghosh, whose idea was this whole thing and second Somlata who sang the title song and this one. I believe this song is the biggest hit among all songs of Gaaner Opare and yet they missed out on these two important people...Strange!
@cdetc One small info: The idea of this 'whole thing' was of Juboraaj. Star Jalsa head at that time. Rituparno, the great personality he is, was brought in by producer, Ideas, for reasons best known to them till he was relieved after a few months.

Its an awesome plan to remix Rabindra sangeet as per our modern taste. Not everyone learns singing rabindrasangeet these days..so we dont even get to hear these great songs.. Remixing the songs a little,keeping the main tune at par and using them in soaps or movies are an excellent way to bring the songs to our generation. People who disagree are close-minded.

heard this song posted n facebook... liked it... good remix... I was never interested in rabindra sangit... but after this song, went on to become a regular viewer of this tv series... and somewhat got me closer to our tagore culture.... this has been the case for 2 of my flatmates too....

Where is my problem with the song.....Let me clear it.....By the sentence "pran chaye chokkhu naa chay" there must be some thing tacit which is needed to be understood......which gives the person tremendous happiness when it is concealed within him or her and does not come out overtly. Now if you make a rap with 5-6 hands and shouting loudly, where is that coveted covertness that is required in the song? I am not saying the music is bad...Put two "Billy Jean" inside...It would sound even better.

Even Srikanto Acharya made an excellent rendition of this song. Why don't listen to him? There is no harm in realizing something in a different way. I have clearly stated where is my problem with the song. The music and expression simply defy the lyrics. Anybody who cannot express his/her feeling cannot sing loudly with 4-5 hands. This is like Mozart Requiem is made in Rap.....and 50 cents is performing it....I am quite doubtful how many of the youth understands the meaning......It is like the singer is hitting you with a hunter rather than questing for the harmony.....If youth needs Rap to put in Classics to understand it, they should be kept away from Tagore.....There are many other things around.....Please go for them instead.....

@MrAbirSinha : Still no philharmonic orchestra uses electric guitar in the rendition of a Moonlight Sonata, the Blue Danube or the Ride of the Valkyrie..... and try to get a ticket of any of the philharmonic orchestra. You won't get any, so much popular it is. Jimmy Hendrix was popular in his own way. That was different type of music. He is not at all acceptable in classics. and who is calling classic "glory of yesteryear"? Genius never dies......Why bother Tagore with restricted abilities?

LPO simply rendered it. A genius paid tribute to another genius. But paying tribute should have a standard. "Achalatayan" must be broken only if it is "Achal",otherwise not.

@barun99mukherjee : the male singer is literally "throwing the words" towards the listeners.....breaking it in the syllables...which destroys the smoothness of the tune...It actually follows the beats rather than the meaning of the lyrics..The rhythm does not suit at all the feeling of the lyrics...which is especially hurting me..because I feel, the lyrics of Rabindranath is something extra-ordinary.....This is not "dustoro lojja", it seems "sochchar lojja(?)"...sochchare lojja prokash kora :)
@gogol1950 hi brother. i do understand the and respect ur deep gratitude towards the great artist`s creations . i did read that ur from the family who admires the same. u might also have the deep knowledge about rabi thakur`s creations i only wanted to say how many of us have this profound knowledge about these great creations. may be this is due to the cultural gap which is created and many youngsters are approaching towards the western form thus causing this distance from this classical form

Wow, how innovative - like a breath of fresh air. I used to play guitar for my mom's musicals (giti-natyo??) as a teenager, and remember doing a little arpeggio for *pran chai...* But, t I have been away for many many years now, and heavent heard it for over 2 decades. Nice to hear the same song reinvented. I am looking to buy the DVD if at all possible.

Its funny how most people dnt realize that "gurudev" himself was a copycat. Shiloranjan, who used to work with the music, took a lot of music from baul and other folk songs. The biggest example is that the tune of "Amar Shonar Bangla" is taken DIRECTLY from a baul song. So i believe therz no harm in experimenting with the copycat's music :)

If you have had, then you would have known how much Tagore was ahead of his times and would have loved this remixed 'Pran Chay Chokkhu na Chay". Tagore wrote about illegitimate with brother-in-law (Charulata) and with husband's friend (Ghare Baire) at an age when woman never stepped out of their interiors. He wrote about loving, but not opting for marriage (Sesher Kabita). He would have loved it that his music has crossed generations.:)

@1979antu First of all I wasn't speaking of anyone called, "Tegor"... I think being a die-hard fan of Tagore, u should at least know the spelling of his name... :).. And anyway, I don't think they changed the originality of the song. If you hear the original yourself, you'll know that all that it's in Teentaal, 16 matra... so that hasn't change. All that has been done is pepping up the song a bit with some lovely background music.

Love this song. Why are people so paranoid about remixing songs? Rabindranath himself never followed the traditional norms in composing music. He was always a rebellious composer and writer who believed in experimenting with words and tunes and perhaps that's why his compositions were way more popular than any other classical composer. Its really a great thing that the youth are remixing the old songs in their new zeal and saving the Rabindra geeti from fading away or becoming museum artifacts..

When I watched the last episode of this serial I was shocked to see that they didn't thank 2 important people behind it's success. First is Rituporno Ghosh, whose idea was this whole thing and second Somlata who sang the title song and this one. I believe this song is the biggest hit among all songs of Gaaner Opare and yet they missed out on these two important people...Strange!

Its an awesome plan to remix Rabindra sangeet as per our modern taste. Not everyone learns singing rabindrasangeet these days..so we dont even get to hear these great songs.. Remixing the songs a little,keeping the main tune at par and using them in soaps or movies are an excellent way to bring the songs to our generation. People who disagree are close-minded.

Where is my problem with the song.....Let me clear it.....By the sentence "pran chaye chokkhu naa chay" there must be some thing tacit which is needed to be understood......which gives the person tremendous happiness when it is concealed within him or her and does not come out overtly. Now if you make a rap with 5-6 hands and shouting loudly, where is that coveted covertness that is required in the song? I am not saying the music is bad...Put two "Billy Jean" inside...It would sound even better.

Even Srikanto Acharya made an excellent rendition of this song. Why don't listen to him? There is no harm in realizing something in a different way. @bhabol1 : I am not against anybody who is using his or her democratic right of singing Tagore song in a new way.....I am familiar with the story line. I have clearly stated where is my problem with the song. The music and expression simply defy the lyrics. Anybody who cannot express his/her feeling cannot sing loudly with 4-5 hands. Then where is the intended covertness? "Understanding" is individual. If somebody understands by "sedin dujone dulechhinu bone" that it is written for Tarzan?

i love this serial theee most...ever since i have watched this song i have finished watching the whole serial on you tube... this is just fantastic.. it has redefined Rabindrasangeet.. i have never watched bangali serials before.. i rarely find time for watching serials but this one is awesome..

This is like Mozart Requiem is made in Rap.....and 50 cents is performing it....I am quite doubtful how many of the youth understands the meaning......It is like the singer is hitting you with a hunter rather than questing for the harmony.....If youth needs Rap to put in Classics to understand it, they should be kept away from Tagore.....There are many other things around.....Please go for them instead.....

I agree. At first this made me cry. But then I thought: why waste tears on crap? If this is what "postmodern" Rabindrasangeet is, one might as well relieve oneself incessantly at the thought of Rabindrasangeet, say in 2111 AD.

@MrAbirSinha : Still no philharmonic orchestra uses electric guitar in the rendition of a Moonlight Sonata, the Blue Danube or the Ride of the Valkyrie..... and try to get a ticket of any of the philharmonic orchestra. You won't get any, so much popular it is. Jimmy Hendrix was popular in his own way. That was different type of music. He is not at all acceptable in classics. and who is calling classic "glory of yesteryear"? Genius never dies......Why bother Tagore with restricted abilities?

@gogol1950 : And you conveniently forgot to mention, most blue blooded of philanthropic orchestras covered Flyod, Zeppelin among others to pay tribute. Why making an Achalayatan out of Tagore who himself had been a rule-breaker for most of his lifetime?
Granted genius never dies, but why making snide remarks if someone decided to pay tribute to the genius by rendering his creation in his own way.

@MrAbirSinha : Did ever London Philharmonic Orchestra used electric guitar to pay tribute to the Beatles, Floyd or Led Zeppelin? The answer is, No. These people had melody in their music. LPO simply rendered it. A genius paid tribute to another genius. But paying tribute should have a standard. Somebody made music without understanding the lyrics and then told that he has paid tribute to the lyricist. Inferiority is not tolerable. "Achalatayan" must be broken only if it is "Achal",otherwise not.

@MrAbirSinha : Why I call this inferior rendition? 1. This song is not for duet. A person who cannot express herself as per the lyrics should not sing so loud. It is only one person who cannot express her feeling. So why duet? 2. Just listen carefully the pronunciation of the boy. I have never heard so bad bengali pronunciation.The girl is better. 3. If you get the meaning, it has certain covertness, which can never be treated in Pop which is by virtue loud. 4. Emphasis is given in wrong portion

gogol bhaya tell me one thing where did u find rap in this music. well if it was at all used where the harm . to promote the great man`s among youth if some innovativeness is used did nt at all destroy this song. many people have appreciated. many appreciate and many will appciate this style. it sound good as well.

@barun99mukherjee : Dear Barun, You are talking like to promote Biriyani among the youngsters, you have to serve it within a Hot Dog or a Pizza....The reason "many people have appreciated" is, I feel, because of the rendition of the girl voice....which is almost close to the original.....and the last thing somebody should do is to "promote Rabindranath Tagore"...It is like putting a torch in the face of the sun....Don't you listen rap from 0:54 to 1:04 and other parts?

Then I have to admit that, I have never heard a man who is having "dustoro lojja".....I always knew, "Embarrasment is the ornament of the girls only"...You can put a "Bohemian Rapsody" inside "Jana Gana Mana"....It would sound fabulous and people would appreciate...But will it remain the same song it was used to? the pronunciation of the boy is pathetic....I will forget bengali if I listen to him 3-4 times....

@barun99mukherjee : the male singer is literally "throwing the words" towards the listeners.....breaking it in the syllables...which destroys the smoothness of the tune...It actually follows the beats rather than the meaning of the lyrics..The rhythm does not suit at all the feeling of the lyrics...which is especially hurting me..because I feel, the lyrics of Rabindranath is something extra-ordinary.....This is not "dustoro lojja", it seems "sochchar lojja(?)"...sochchare lojja prokash kora :)

@gogol1950 hi brother. i do understand the and respect ur deep gratitude towards the great artist`s creations . i did read that ur from the family who admires the same. u might also have the deep knowledge about rabi thakur`s creations i only wanted to say how many of us have this profound knowledge about these great creations. may be this is due to the cultural gap which is created and many youngsters are approaching towards the western form thus causing this distance from this classical form

@barun99mukherjee : I am not at all Western music hater.....I like Bob Dylan's lyrics, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Abba, Andrew Llyod Weber, Jon Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams, Backstreet Boys, Pete Seager, Shania Twain, Madonna,Shakira even Lady Gaga....But if you put Pizza sauce in alu-posto, how would that taste? I am not against fusion.....But I feel Gaaner Opare renditions are not well thought through and the fusions are put for the sake of it and contributing nothing to the original score

Rabindranath will only survive if we 'closed-minded' bengalis experiment and try to spread the reach of Rabindranath to generations Y and Z. Otherwise he will remain the regionalised hero as he is till today.
Loved the song! Need more such experimentation, mix and new sound.
