  • LOVE YOU BRUCE!COME TO CROATIA!!!! <3

  • sound very similar...great vid

  • Bruce takes this song, and makes it HIS in SECONDS. BRUUUUCE!

  • Jakob Dylan's career is far from dead. He has had a very underrated solo career, and I've heard that he's back in the studio with the Wallflowers. So don't count them out yet.

  • very similer voices

  • bruce always reminds me of rocky

  • Bruce did not destroy Jakob's career... the lack of a hit follow-up album with great tunes/hooks was his downfall.

  • That bass player for the Wallflowers works at the 7-11 near my apartment. He makes really good coffee. You should try it sometime.

  • How Simmons thinks Bruce destroyed Jakob is beyond me. Yelling, growling and spitting into a mic doesn't make you a better singer.

  • @squiggs96 wow your retarded

  • This song was MADE for Bruce Springsteen - hearing him sing it with the band just exposes Jakob Dylan & Co. for the poseurs they were. At best, Bruce should have hired these guys as lyricists. Otherwise, they had no business singing this song while Springsteen was still present on the planet.

  • Simmons!

  • Never have 2 styles been more mismatched... Dylan was setting himself up for a fail. Bruce is all about intensity and rocking out, while Dylan is all about his cool, monotoned delivery... he's almost too afraid to rock out in fear of losing his laid-back air.

You can see Dylan trying to compensate by trying to deliver that last line with more intensity (like Bruce), but it just comes out so awkward. Feel sorry for the kid.

  • It's as if Bruce showed up and said "nice song, guys. Let me show you how to play it"

  • Simmons!

  • simmons

  • effin' Bruce... showin' 'em how it's DONE!!!

that's how ya do a damn song!!!!

  • It'a a Telecaster not a Strat

  • Great performance of one of my favorite Wallflowers tunes. The Boss is rippin' it up on guitar! Love it. Thanks for posting this.

  • when stratocaster screaming , it can be make a great song, thanks Bos

  • this song will never get old ~ love Jakob <3

  • bruce isnt hogging the limelight, its not his fault hes the bigger talent, hes just doing what comes naturally to him, putting his whole heart into each and every performance

  • WOW. I've never seen this. The Boss sure can bend that fuckin' six string!!!

  • Springsteen clearly LOVES this song and KILLS on it.

  • LOVE THE WALLFLOWERS----BRUCE NOT SO MUCH.

  • Lyrics of this song are better than anything out there right now

  • @autry33

Jacob wishes he had the talent that Bruce or Jacobs father has

  • @tjoad951 it's Jakob, fucknuts!

  • where can i dowload an mp3 version o this song?> anyone pls/... thanks

  • This has got to be one of my all-time favorite you tube videos. Please don't EVER take it down!!

  • The Boss rocked this. This song is so fantastic. J'aime le Wallflowers!

  • Bravo, fabulous combination. . . . .

  • Very good, very good.....very, very. very good!! Bruce siempre sexy!

  • Amo a Bruce..

  • Springsteen seems gay all the song. He likes Jakob Dylan.

  • Bruce is nasty on that getar..

  • That is the most unappreciative audience I have ever seen. They were experiencing good music's last few days live.

    Enjoy Bieber, fuckheads.

  • @PenderGilchrist

Probably the last time MTV had a a great rock song live on the air.

  • The Boss just outclassing Jakob Dylan in every possible way here. Jakob looked intimidated by the end of the song.

  • wow! Great performance!

  • The circle is steadfast.

  • Dude... who's doing the crapy harmonies?

  • @HoldFastTheTruth Haha- I'm sure that would be Bruce! Gotta love him! He often sounds a bit flat to me... but it's him and somehow, it sounds ok from him... I would have to say I'm a huge fan of Springsteen...

  • @girllovesmusic Yeah, somehow the attitude overpowers the pitch! =)

  • @HoldFastTheTruth

Either guitarist Michael Ward or bassist Greg Richling... Or maybe Bruce? From microphone positioning I'd guess Michael Ward. :D

  • @RadioMuse1 its actually the boss with the harmonies... but i thought it sounded great lol

  • @s277207 Here, it appears to be both... The other guitarist is also singing during the chorus and would've carried the part anytime the Wallflowers weren't graced by the boss. But you're correct in that it is Bruce that you can hear on the harmony! :D

  • Awesome solo!, awesome song, awesome singers!

nothing more we could ask for :D.

  • It's no wonder Bruce is still around. He does this like it's the first song he's ever loved. Amazing!

  • @girllovesmusic A music journalist said this was Bruce "re-discovering himself" after breaking the E Street band up and eventually going acoustic. True or not, I wish they'd kept it going a bit longer at the end - a few more runarounds for an extended solo, like at the end of Luckytown on MTV **Plugged

  • I don't know I kind of like it.......

  • Not a huge fan of Bruce but this is really good

  • the boss.

  • @grote716 - you got it. The Boss is a PRO.

  • Classic! Very nice post.

  • sick solo

  • brutal!!!!!

  • Bruce impecable, como es usual,un grande arriba y abajo del escenario

  • Date off the concert?

  • Dont know the exact date but I think this was @ MTV awards 1997...

  • i think mtv vma awards 97'

  • Springsteen dice....haganse a chingar a su madre!!!

    Llego su papa cabrones.

    SuperSpringsteen

  • Springsteen owns it again.

  • I actually like this version better than the original. In fact, everytime I want to imagine something very...awesome, I always go back to this song. :)

  • You dont have to imagine something awesome, this IS awesome. I remember seeing this live on TV and not really a huge Springsteen fan I was still impressed with the way this performance was pulled off. Does he actually say, "me and cinderelly" ?? classic.

  • now this is real music

  • This is one fine song, a very FINE show ... thanks for giving us a good embeddable upload, quedimonios ... like 2 headlights here, Bruce and Jacob at once.

  • springsteen rules......

  • OH MY GOSH!!!...i loveeeeeeee it!!!!! <3

  • Yeh girl..

  • and you gotta love the end..he stares right into the eyes of the other guitarist as he absolutely takes over the outro solo

  • LMAO yeah. What a bitch.

  • i think that they made the song a little TOO heavy. i mean, i like it, but springsteens energy does make it different. his singing is out of key, like calvinhealy said.

  • Yes, it sounds like Bruce is a little out of tune. But that may have different reasons.. The most common is that his monitor isn't high enough. Then it's hard to hear your own pitch, and you may fall a little out of tune.

But Bruce has this thing of beeing sloppy, yet not sloppy... I think it's cool, uniqe..!

This is a great performance, btw!

  • This is arguably better than the studio version.

  • Comment removed

  • is it just me or is springsteens harmonies a lil out of key? i could be wrong tho. jakob's never off tho.

  • the two voices don't quite match up, I agree. I think it comes down to the fact Bruce is trying to energize the performance, while Dylan was trying to preserve the song's message and try to sing it like he did on the album.

'm not kocking either of them, but I prefer Bruce's energy. like I said before, you can kind of see Dylan trying to adjust at about 3:19

  • yea man, agreed, springsteen has undeniable energy on stage. but dont u reckon he sorta sacrifices being tight on vocals with jakob, by giving that extra energy? that my opinion at least:)

  • Simmons did a great summary of this clip in one of his articles from quite a while ago. You can just SEE Bruce fall back in love with performing as the song goes on. Then he publicly eviscerates poor Dylan.

  • the thing is, you'd think performing with Bruce right then would push a person to respond in kind but Dylan doesn't... he totally lets Bruce steal his song. I mean watching him, I want to get up and jam- lol. This song is like it was written, composed for Bruce. I love it!

  • Can you imagine singing this, superb song & looking over to see that you are dueting with Springsteen! Don't get much cooler than this!

  • The Boss DOMINATES THIS STAGE and SONG! Good onya BossMan. This tune was PERFECT for you!

  • @freds2ndfan Always thought this sounded like a Bruce song.

  • @dwl1971

    as in "Independence Day", anyone?

  • @freds2ndfan yea, thats a shame that he does......he shouldn't be hogging the spotlight over upstarts like that.....so egotistical......pass the torch Boss Man....your days are over.

  • @freds2ndfan One reason it was perfect for The Boss is that he wrote the melody years before, in his song Independence Day. When Jakob Dylan wrote the line "It's cold, it feels like Independence Day", he was acknowledging his debt to Springsteen.

  • @kw219251 You've just blown my mind. :|

  • Thank you Bill Simmons!!!

  • Simmons!

  • This is why he is the "Boss"

  • Simmons!

  • Simmons!

  • s.i.m.m.o.n.s!

  • Simmons!!!

  • Bill Simmons said that Bruce blew Dylan away - he can't help it - he's just the BOSS! Happy 60th

  • Dylan: "so sick of playing this song on this tour , can't we just get this over with"

Bruce: "you think I haven't played Born to Run 10,000 times? Put your back into it, son!"

  • @grote716 Did they really say this? When? Where? Why?

  • @grote716 well put! Many years ago I saw Fats Domino perform. He played Blueberry Hill 6 times in a row - why? Because that's what people came to see. He'd been playing that song for 25 years at that point and still loved to perform it because it paid the bills and gave so many people such joy. Love how Bruce drove the whole band in this version. Shows why he's so great. He NEVER quits on a song.

  • @grote716 the thing is- all the Wallflowers' stuff I ever heard is great. Love Jacob's voice. He's good. Wish there was more out there...

And this performance of this song is just plain great!

  • Simmons!!!!!!

  • Simmons

  • Bruce is god

  • I love Bruce's loud as hell, and take no prisoner's style of playing lead guitar on this appearance with Jacob. He let 'em know he was there, and accounted for.

  • what year was this again

  • 1997

  • @obes8 this was 1997 I believe

  • Dylan is underrated....If he didn't belong on that stage Springsteen would not have performed with him. Wise up

  • Dylan Sr, Jackson Browne, Roy Orbison, Bono, John Fogerty.... And you still think it's impossible to share a stage with Springsteen? Get your head out of your ass please, before posting such comments...

  • Perfect!

  • this song is power!

  • simmons...

  • I remember saw that show on TV, but i never i can see it again. Nice performance, thanks for posting!!

  • InB4theSimmons!

But man, do I miss songs like this.

  • Throw Mark Knoffler in there for the guitar solo.

  • easily one the best songs of the nineties

  • I was really excited to find this clip; I loved it when I watched it at that time, because the song is so very, very Springsteen-esque. Even though Bruce had started losing his voice at the time (>25 yrs of belting out anthem rock takes a toll!), it was still a great performance. Their styles and voices really compliment each other. Many thanks!

  • Springsteen-esque??? You mean, as in the very same melody as "Independence Day"? :)

  • I'd never noticed they were the same melody. Independence day is quiet and reflective... I guess that'd explain why Bruce was performing it with them. What I meant by Springsteen-esque was a song that starts slower/quieter and builds into an anthem-rock song: singers shouting out lyrics and guitar solos. That describes alot of songs/artists, but its Bruce's trademark.

  • hell, it even has the line, "just like Independence Day" in the song.

that being said, One Headlight is a good song.

    Happy Birthday, Bruce.

  • yeah... the obvious blows right by me sometimes, when I'm caught up in the details...

  • Actually, I don't think Jakob is angry at Bruce, I think he is just stoned out of his mind.

  • ha ha exactly

  • I liked The Wallflowers version in the first place. I saw this performance when it aired. It was, and is, superb. Bruce commands the song. He's got energy on it. Dylan sounds like he's falling asleep.

  • I admit I am biased because I read everyones comments before viewing the video. It does look like Springsteen is stealing the light from Jakob Dylan a tad. It sounds like 2 guys singing in two different styles. Since it is Jakob's song, I think the Boss needs to adjust to Jakobs style. Interesting to see though.

  • hola yo tambien puntue este video esta vastante bueno nunca lo habia escuchado coincido con vos wawita22 excelente

  • nice with Bruce and loves the performance

  • Jakob's style is cooler then the otherside of the pillow.

  • GET THE F%!K ON DOWN THEN!!

  • Both musicians are so great! They look delighted to be singing with one another!!

  • Whoever here says that Jacob is "hurt" and "blown off" Bruce, is talking nonsense! Jacob's father is Bob Dylan for god sakes! No one an hold a candle to his father so he can't be bothered by anyone else. Also, Jacob style is softer and more subtle than Bruce's; he sings his own very tenderly. And, it is Jacob's song so no one is doing the song better than he does because it HIS SONG. Jacob is probably so delighted to be doing the song with Bruce and loves the performance.

  • Its gotta hurt to be blown off the stage by a guest on your own song

  • nice guitar solos by bruce, his guitar sound gives new energy to this great song

  • i dont think bruce did anything wrong, honestly from the first time you see jakob on screen he doesnt ever rly look like he is having fun up there, kinda just going through the motions

  • with the guitar solo and the singing at the same microphone later in the song, bruce rips this song from jakob dylan's hands

  • what about jakob, then

  • damn Bruce looks good.

  • I gotta agree with Pixie. It's obvious Jakob took more of his musical influence from Springsteen then he did his dad. Springsteen was obviously a massive influence on him. That said, I don't think The Boss intimidated him at all. He sounded more inspired the longer the song went on. My favorite live recording.

  • Why did you give thumb down to this comment?

It's funny, just take a look at Jakob's face he looks like he is annoyed by Bruce

  • I am a big fan of Bruce, both of his music and his character as a gentle, as a true genius who appreciated music in it's all forms. Jakob was totally at easy singing along such a great musician. I think Bruce as a musician is a class act, hard to follow, steady, consistent with his style... says it all on why he has been everyone's favorite! Lovely experience watching this video, many thanks to the poster!

  • in reply 2 the last.. doubt there was a problem being at ease round bruce, his dad IS bob dylan.. impossible to be starstruck really at that point

  • I don't understand your logic. Just because he is Bob Dylan's son, does it mean that he is as good or great as him? what were you thinking? Bruce is too huge. He is huge with Elvis's son also. He may not be huge with Elvis. But his son, yes. Try to see people as 'individuals' and don't be shallow while replying to public comments on YouTube, Thanks!

  • It's a brilliant collaboration. I recall watching this live and being blown away. I got the impression it was mutual admiration.

  • It's just simply great!!! Bruce would probably wish he had written this one!!!

  • I used to hear this on the radio before I saw the video and I thought Bruce was singing at the beginning. Live Dylan sounds like Sprigsteen did 25years ago.

  • Holy shit this is mad, I don't think Bruce overshadowed them at all .. was great.

  • With the addition of Bruce, it sounds like an old Bruce tune, with the WallFlowers backing HIM up

  • It sounded so Bruceish that my husband thought it was a Bruce song not Wallflowers when he heard it. Of course, he hadn't exactly heard of the Wallflowers at the time. Still, it's a really great combination. Plus Bruce gets to play a lot of guitar which he always likes.

  • This song has a Bruceness to it. Hearing Bruce sing this with the son of his old friend is a historical and magical moment. It sounds great.

  • BRUUUUCE!!!
