Rob just couldn't get out of his own way. He had a lot of talent and showed signs of greatness but was stubborn about holding the ball instead of throwing it away. He's similar to Aaron Rodgers but never could put it all together the way he did. Took too many hits/sacks and was always injured.
The shame of it all is that Flutie could have rally helped Johnson become a great NFL QB. Johnson took tons of sacks - not in the pocket, but on prolonged rollouts. Flutie's strength was throwing outside the pocket. Had the two been interested in cooperating and not competing AGAINST each other, they could both be wearing Super Bowl rings as Bills.
