Vikings as well as all european nationalities first originated in Russia (motherland), Slavs remained in Russia while Germanics, Celts and the Balts moved east. Originally we were all one great group of people called Indo-Europeans. Many similarities exist in Slavonic - Viking paganism. eg. You mean others have moved West... Its all due to the way ice cap have receded when last ice age was coming to an end. Russia was one of the first areas that have lost its ice cap, very counter intuitive, but its a fact. So people could settle in east europe long before they could get to the West.
