Though in deference to your assertion, it wasn't originally written for Vocaloid. I don't know if it has any history besides this, but this song was used as the OP to the anime version of Bokurano.

I'd say it was a euphemism for dying but without leaving an impact on the Earth, so that there was no record of you having ever existed, much like when you uninstall a program you leave no trace of it.

Still, your interpretation is as valid as mine, as is your opinion about which version is better.

With that in mind, he has no choice but to fight and die, in spite of the fact that he isn't sure if the world is worth fighting for. Something of the sort. If you pay attention to the lyrics and watch the Bokurano anime or read the manga, you'll discover the song is pretty accurate in narrating the whole thing. It's amazing. And this version is pretty well made as well ^^
