I pose a question: Can scientist PINPOINT the center of the universe? If there is an expansion of the universe, and the laws of nature the same everywhere, why is there no center of the universe?
The question is simple: is the universe expanding or our galaxy shifting itself?

In 1929 Edwin Hubble thought the universe was 2 billion years old. The telescope that was named after him has seen galaxies older than 13 billion years. These galaxies couldn't have been around before the big bang, so now we believe the universe is 13.7 billion. This is not our last telescope folks. I guarantee when we discover a galaxy 20 billion light years away, we will then say the universe is 20.7 billion years old. Oh look 30 billion, must be 30.7, and so on for infinity.

i have a couple questions i dont understand. why is the sky red when the sun is setting? we know the sun isnt racing away from us but it seems to be red shifted at times and could this have anything to do with the reason that the galaxys we see are red shifted?

@TheCanadianArchetype i was trying to liken the "more atmosphere" to "more dense parts of the universe" on the lights way to earth. like the more "pulling" as it passes other sources of gravity on its way here equals more redshift because shouldn't there be at least a small amount of gravity everywhere
@kenny8331 the only time light is affected by gravity -that I am aware of- is in the case of super dense formations like black holes, but don't quote me on that.
I checked google and there isn't really a whole lot on there that touches on the subject.

In fact, the pattern of the stars velocities in elliptical galaxies is quite different from that of a solar system (i.e. they are not "rotationally supported")

We measure distance from stars according to the red shift (periods). An object moving away from us would have 'streched' redshift.
But what about the fact that we are moving around the sun and the sun around the milky way's black hole and that around/at/from X ?
Also light can be affected by gravity and can be reflected or diffused, additionally photons tend to lose some energy when moving trough great voids (less heat) which results in a longer redshift.
And the heaven We created with might, and indeed We are (its) expander. (Quran 51:47)

Space is not a perfect vacuum, this jumping of the redshift seems to me that it needs to "bridge" pieces of a perfect vacuum. Now you could see this as an expansion of space. BUT in an truly perfect vacuum there is no reference to the particle moving trough it, so therfore there cannot be time.

And the result is that the redshift goes in jumps which requires a closer look at what is actually being observed. This does NOT mean that space is expanding. This shows that it might well be otherwise. 1430 years ago doesn't mean anything to me, do you realise the age of the earth is 4.700.000.000 years?

I have a question. An often quoted analogy to describe the expansion of the universe is that of an expanding balloon, with points on the balloon representing galaxies. As the balloon expands, the points recede from each other, but doesn't the 'unit' of distance also expand with the balloon, so that the 'distance' between points remain the same? Can anyone care to enlighten me?

In fact, the pattern of the stars velocities in elliptical galaxies is quite different from that of a solar system (i.e. they are not "rotationally supported")

We measure distance from stars according to the red shift (periods). An object moving away from us would have 'streched' redshift.
But what about the fact that we are moving around the sun and the sun around the milky way's black hole and that around/at/from X ?
Also light can be affected by gravity and can be reflected or diffused, additionally photons tend to lose some energy when moving trough great voids (less heat) which results in a longer redshift.
So how can redshift be correct?

At the time of the revelation of the Quran, the word space was not known, and people used the word heaven to refer to what lies above the Earth. In the above verse, the word heaven is referring to space and the known universe. The verse points out that space, and thus the universe, happens to be expanding, just as Hubbles Law states.

@2009abuabdullah If redshifts were truly a result of an expanding universe, the measurements would be smoothly distributed, showing all values within the range measured.The redshift, being quantised, is more like the idea of cars each going in multiples of, say, 5 kilometres an hour. This would seem to indicate that something other than the expansion of the universe is responsible for these results.

@2009abuabdullah I told you what is wrong with the current measurement, i have multiple suggestions for this result. I do not exclude one theorie until it is disproven with strong evidence. Space is not a perfect vacuum, this jumping of the redshift seems to me that it needs to "bridge" pieces of a perfect vacuum. Now you could see this as an expansion of space. BUT in an truly perfect vacuum there is no reference to the particle moving trough it, so therfore there cannot be time.

God Almighty is responsible! As He has said so in the quran, over 1430 years ago! I advice you to read the quran with an open mind and heart! You will see other scientific facts, yet its a book for Guidance for Mankind!

@2009abuabdullah I do not seek encrypted phrases explaining phenomena that could be explained otherwise. And the result is that the redshift goes in jumps which requires a closer look at what is actually being observed. This does NOT mean that space is expanding. This shows that it might well be otherwise. 1430 years ago doesn't mean anything to me, do you realise the age of the earth is 4.700.000.000 years?

@2009abuabdullah Earlier English translations of Surah 51:47 do not use the word "expanding," This translation is ether forced or simply a mistranslation. But even if we say it is correct, given only 3 choices: expanding, collapsing, static, this represents 1/3 probability. This is not a hard guess. Not impressive.

I have a question. An often quoted analogy to describe the expansion of the universe is that of an expanding balloon, with points on the balloon representing galaxies. As the balloon expands, the points recede from each other, but doesn't the 'unit' of distance also expand with the balloon, so that the 'distance' between points remain the same? Can anyone care to enlighten me?
