I never understood this concept of raising a "domestic" baby waterfowl and then releasing him in the wild after he has matured. If you raise a domestic animal, it lacks the skills to survive in the wild. I helped rescue domestic ducks abandoned or dumped in the wild and many of these animals don't live for more than 2 weeks on their own. Animals that have been sheltered, fed, protected on a 24/7 basis shouldn't be released in the wild as it is a death sentence.

Also, I apologize if I'm incorrect, but isn't it bad to release wild animals that have been raised with humans? Something about them not having learned the skills to survive from their mother. And they smell human, as well. I know you can't pick up baby ducks because the mother will abandon it for smelling human and leave it to die. Just wondering, sorry.

There was a mum and dad swan with 9 yes 9 baby swans sitting on the creek today. The mum got a bit defensive at first but after stting by her for a while she calmed down and I even managed to pet one of the babies :D
